Looking for a JOB or Starting a Business

With the kind of economy we have, things are changing. The things that worked for many people two decades ago may not be working today. Many job workers had been laid off. Many are still looking, while some are already frustrated where to look for money for their family. I think that the best way for young people is to start a small business and steadily work it out to grow. Young people have a lot more to go and they can afford to make mistakes and grow by it. The aged or adult are too fearful to start anew because they are afraid they commit mistakes and they don't have much time to start all over again. What are you planning, look for a job or start a business?

Hello, god is good. I got out of prison about 11 months ago, and wondered the same thing. Just a few months ago I started on myLot, and I asked the same question. I had a ton of help from some friends here, and I started my own business. It is great, but not the best. I am the only employee but that is ok for now. Here by August I want it to be a little bigger and I am doing all I can to keep it up. A business is hard work but it is worth it. I make roughly the same as if I had a regular job, but this way I have a lot of free time. I only work 3 days per week but coming here in a week I will be working 5. It is great... I hope that if you decide to start one, you look here in mylot to your friends for help...that was my plus... Have a great day...

I admire you for starting your business, which is I believe to be growing as of today. I agree that having your business at the initial stage is hard work and patience but the future looks bright if we manage it well. Freedom is one of the best in owning our business. At first, our business owns us but as it develops, we own our time for other productive things. I have started my little business and it's still in the process of growing.

Codymac, I'd just like to say good on you for going into business in what must be very difficult circumstances. I can't imagine it's easy getting credit when you're an ex-con, and it's well-known that regular employment's hard to get. A lot of people would go back to crime or sit around living off the dole, but you're obviously determined to turn your life round. I wish you well.

We always have a chance to change, from our mistake, and now I congratulate you for finding a true work opportunity that is starting your own business. Its never too late for us to start as long as we want to. Hopefully your business will grow in a short time and money keep coming in. I too, wanted to do freelancing because I have depression, I can't work full time from 9 to 6. I can only be active for 4 hours a day, that way freelancing also best for me as I don't like to be commanded under a superior.

Hello there! I think it can be both. Looking for a job can be hard a t times specially when you are looking for ways how to earn more when you have the option to spend and be on the company you want but then you don't get paid fair. And there is the option to earn big but then you don't have the ability to be able to be in that position... Life can be unfair at times, but then that's life. Starting a business, you have to learn more of the things needed before jumping and putting yourself in a spot you can't handle. You have to learn more before putting up a business for you to be able to handle it and become successful in it. No matter what it is you desire, put God first, right?

Putting God first is always the best whether in business or in any other areas of our lives. Thank you for that reminder. I have read about the philosophy of the happy and wealthy millionaire for Jesus. Their number one philosophy is putting God first before other things.

How I wish to have a job to support myself, since I already done a little store before and finally giving it up because I'm tired, coz I'm the only one who runs it. I have a lots of home based skills that I can used to open again but I have no one to be with. If I will hire one I think my profit only go to her salary. About applying for a new job? I don't think at my age now there still someone who will hire me unless one of my friends will own it.

Yhea your right about that stuart, specially here in my country age discrimination is so high you can't have a job unless one of your friends recommend you or they are the one who owns the business. Well I hope someday someone will ask me to be part of her business maybe I can share with.

I think I have a similar problem. I'm in my mid-forties now, and for the last few years the job offers have started to dry up. I don't think that's entirely due to the recession - once you're past 40 they don't want to employ you, no matter how much experience you've got. That's one of the things that is motivating me to try to get into business for myself now - I know it'll be hard work, but at least I'll have some kind of control of my life, and a sense of purpose. I hope you find some way to support yourself - keep trying, you just need to realise your own potential.

I think that you're still young to start a business where you can grow it in 5-10 years before you retire. If you don't have one to be your business partner, then here am I. I am offering my services to you until you can manage it on your own and enjoy the fruits of your labors. ha ha ha.

The stock market is good if you have a best understanding of how it works. if not, then find other areas of business where you can be profitable.

If you do not have enough capital in hand then its better to look for a job.

Not necessarily, if you've got a high level of confidence in the business you want to invest in, it can be worth while going out on a limb, especially if paying employment isn't forthcoming anyway. James Caan (off Dragon's Den) raised the finance for his first business venture by taking out five credit cards - mind you, that's a bit of a high-risk strategy for my taste.

I would like to commend you for starting your own business. This is something that my boyfriend and I have really been thinking about. We realized that working seems to never get us anywhere. However, we really are a crossroads with what type of business to start. It is a huge risk and when you have kids a mortgage, etc. it is something to really consider. I am not sure what direction I would want to go in.

I think starting a business is the way to go. However, it still depends on the business. Not all businesses are booming especially with the economy today. and if you do not have enough knowledge about it, then you might not succeed with it as well. Although it is good to have one because you can manage your own time and be your own boss.

First of all, I reckon you don't have to be young to start a business - you can do it at any age, providing you've got your health (physical and mental). For myself, I've been out of work for a few months now, but I've had a growing desire for the last couple of years to get into business for myself. Since finishing my last job, I've had a Plan A and Plan B. Plan A is to get a job then set up a small business working in my spare time. I wold then hope to develop the business to the point where I can concentrate solely on that. Plan B kicks in if I get to the point where I've been out of work for six months. If I get to that point, I'll forget about looking for work and set up in business working full-time for myself. I reckon I've got nothing to lose, and there's a government scheme I'll be able to apply for that will be able to give me a certain amount of help. Either way I'm going to give it a go.

I think in the past it was easy to work for someone, but now people changed, I find it hard to adapt, I think its better to be our own boss as we can make our own decisions without other people permission, we can earn as much as we like and time given is flexible.

This post is really helpful.. I've also been wondering where to start right now.. I am currently accepting cake orders but not much.. Only like one ot two in a month.. So it's really hard to tell if this is going to work well if I focus on this.. I am also planning to apply in some companies but those well paying jobs are not just my type.. SO still I'm very confused.. I surely can get ideas from here.. Thanx!

Just planning to look for a freelance writing job. My only job is myLot for now. I've been out of work (paid) for 13 months before coming to myLot. My only work has been non-paying ones last year, that I've had for 2 1/2 years - volunteering for 2 musuems. I've been looking for offic clerk jobs, library jobs, bookstore jobs & writing jobs throughout the year (last yr.). I've come up with about 5 writing websites that pay upfront & pretty well for freelancers. I've done extensive research on these sites as to pay, pay methods, writing policies, reviews by other writers and, just today, checking out their accrediations with the BBB. I'm still not done researching. I have to make a calculated decision on a couple of those soon, if I want a well-paid career in freelance writing.

Well, for starters... I would suggest you to get a Job since this will gain you experience for your future, but if you have resources or have a money to start a small business and willing to take the risk then you can start a small business as well. I have read a book about this and it says to start a business in a young age because 9 out of 10 or 90% of the businesses failed, but don't get me wrong this just statistics. The reason why it suggest you to start a business at a young age is that if in case you will be the part of the 90% then you still have time to make up for your losses and learn from it then start a new one. Why, I said to get a Job first is because at least you have a fall back in case the business you have started failed, at least you still have an income. But if you have the resources or money then start a new one provided you have learned from the previous loss and make sure not to commit the same mistakes. In that book also says... which I also apply in my real life says.."We don't have a lifetime to commit mistakes and learn from it, that is why we also need to learn from others mistakes"...:D
