There's a man who was recently arrested because he got caught breaking into a home while the occupant was at a funeral. The man targeted people who were at a funeral, as he knew that the residence would surely be empty as well as people who were holding estate sales. In a way this is similar to posting on FB that you are at wherever... it's telling people you are not home... similar concept. http://www.wisn.com/news/30762833/detail.html

I have never heard of this. Although, thanks to my own father, I know that people can have more than one obituary in a paper.

Hi Rogue, I have to ask because I'm not getting it. How does having more than one obituary in the paper tie into the robberies that this discussion is about?

Why does this not surprise me, so many people want to prey on the most vulnerable situations anymore, they have no morals or anything. Thing is that maybe one day they will be haunted by this and make sure the same happens to them one day. In a prefect world perhaps. It is always something though, you have to watch out for it all. You just never know when it will happen to you.

This is very true and unfortunate.

The larceny pool really seems to be expanding. I have heard for years about wedding crashers who would show up, enjoy the food and "help" the couple load up their presents, and disappear with the best gifts. Obituaries, wedding announcements and vacation plans all are just open invitations to the crooked people in society to take advantage of you.

That's just sad, and I'm glad they caught the guy. It's bad enough when someonde breaks into someone's house and steals their things, when they leae baseball tickets in the mailbox, and robbed the house when the folks go to the game (happened to a friend of mine) but THIS is the lowest of the low! For crying out loud, the poor victims have already been through enough.

I have heard that before....they checked out all the obits and then made the plan on who to visit and steal from...People really need to be more careful of what they post online...and I also have gotten an email that says they can target you when you use your phone....cell that is...someone they can trace it to where you live.

I really don't think that there is anything that criminals have not thought of. The reason that I feel that way is because of the fact that people will burglarize houses when they know that the occupants are out of town and they will rob people based on what they place as their statuses on facebook. And now this, I think that it is absolutely terrible to think that there are some people in this world that are so heartless as to steal from people during a time of great loss in their lives.
