Friends. Do you sometimes have to make an alibi just to take a leave and go to vacation with friends? We are all entitled for vacation leaves and i dont understand why some employers go snotty when an employee wants to file a leave. Does this happen to you?

In all my years at work, I am one of those who don't often use the vacation leave. I would always schedule personal activities for the weeekend. It is not only because I am a workaholic but due to the cash conversion of our remaining leave credits at the end of the year. We had a total of 30 leaves, 15 vacation leave and 15 sick leave. We always look forward to the cash conversion at the end of the year. It is almost like having another 13th month pay. Sometimes, the company even makes it a point to remind us to use our leaves. Some do and they are able to have a good chance of almost a month vacation with pay especially during the holiday season.

Hi Yahnee! I remember my cousin whose company used to have sick leave conversions. Then lately, their sick leaves where converted to watches. Well, you see that right... watches... It is either you use them or sell them for profit.

I didn't have to make alibis just to take my vacation. As long as I request my vacation leave a month or few weeks before its fine with my previous employer. It only gets hard to file for a vacation leave if there's a lot of work to do. Although this sucks big time, I understand most of the time. But I do bargain like if I can work on the morning shift so at least I can still go to wherever I need to go to. Compromising is a great way to get what you want as well.

hi grace. i usually write 'attend to personal matters' in my reason for my vacation leaves when i want to just rest for an extra day or two. aside from that, i write the real reason for taking a vacation leave. in the company i work for, employees are encouraged to take vacation leaves. i'm one of the supervisors and when needed the existing vacation leaves and their intended dates to be taken are discussed with employees. additionally, email reminders are sent out to concerned employees to remind them to file their vacation leaves before a set date otherwise their vacation leaves will be scheduled for them depending on the company's business needs. anyway, i'm sure that as long as you file your vacation leaves with enough lead time your employers will grant and allow these and won't hassle you much. cheers!!!

I remember then, my supervisor didn't allow my requested leave for the reason of, he allows only one VL per day in our group of almost 50. I charge it to emergency leave. The nerve of their rules! Their rules make us fellow of almost 50, to fight who's to be allowed for the day. We even take a draw who's who. It suck!

SOmetimes, we just don't file a vacation leave when we feel like it. We have to see the situation in the office. If your job requires that you will be needed on certain dates such as during month end , then file it after month end. That way, there will be no compromised work and your boss will not be snotty about it.

That used to happen to me, when I worked in the private industry. And I have to agree, that sometimes they act as if you aren't entitled to any vacation time. It is like the company isn't going to function if you're missing for a week. It's ridiculous. Luckily where I work I don't have to go through that hassle anymore. Don't take me wrong I don't take advantage of it, but when I put in for my vacation time my boss's don't question me and give me a hard time. I love it.
