Is there still hope in believing in PAG-ASA weather predictions?

I know that people will blame our present weather conditions to climate change and that our weather bureau did forecast in January (so they claim) that we will have a wet summer. But I find it comical that PAG-ASA weather forecasters will announce on national TV that it will be sunny and hot the next day and then when you wake up it's raining small animals. For our English speaking friends, PAG-ASA when translated means hope. And I have never experienced a weather prediction from this government agency in my 38years of living in the Philippines that was accurate. When I was in high school, we kids would be drenched and at school before the classes would get suspended. And we would be so happy that because of this mistake they would suspend classes the following day and it would be very sunny. This gave us a chance to go out to friends' houses and just enjoy the day. I wonder how many of the Filipino Mylotters here still believe in the weather forecasts given by our weather bureau?

My business coincides mostly on weather prediction, so i have turned to Yahoo Weather for weather update and NASA Sat Geo. Pagasa reports are accurate though but the information they give is like 2 days late. What Pagasa does is like explain what happened during the day not actually give the forecast.

you see PAGASA has to cover the whole archipelago...they really cant tell if it will rain or shine in all the parts in of the country because winds vary in speed, and in different directions...thats why they call it forecast...they say it will be sunny in certain area generally...which means it would be sunny all through out not excluding the posibility of rain...anyway it happens not just in the philippines but in any other countries as well...but im sure modernization of their equipments would help in a more accurate predictions in the future...

there may be times that the weather bureau did not get it right. but they are trying to give us a forecast in the best way they can with the technology available. the government is continuing to upgrade the equipments that the agency has. since the upgrade, there is an improvement in the accuracy of the forecast. but it is still striving to inform its constituents of the forecast they can rely on.

Yeah I definitely agree with your post, anne25penn! My father, when we're watching weather forecasts from PAG-ASA on news at nights, he would always laugh and say "There you go again, let's see tomorrow what will happen..." My father would even create his own weather forecast and most of the times, he'll get the weather right. I asked him how, and he said that it's base on the phases of the moon. My father usually looks at the moon at night. Just last Tuesday, he said that the sun will shine and it'll be hot from March 30 onwards. My sisters and I laughs at him, because he delivers it like a joke. But deep inside, I am counting on his weather forecasts because I have an out of town this holy week, if it fails, I will surely bug my father for it

Even if the weather forecast always come out right here, but I always prepare myself and bring the umbrella when I get out. They just predict but anything can happen. It just me who don't believe on them~(^^)

I don't rely much on PAGASA's weather prediction. That's why I always bring an umbrella with me whenever I'm going somewhere. I know it is summer time in the Philippines right now, but still we experience rainy days. Just like yesterday, it rained. And the sun was never up. Luckily, it was a Saturday. It was a nice time to rest at home.

I remember when I was still in our high school, just like your, the classes were immediately suspended before starting it because according to the weather report, Signal #3 will hit Central Luzon particular in our province. We were all happy because we are going home. Noon came, the sum is still shining, afternoon came, the sun is smiling on us..hehehe...What a big mistake in forecasting weather... Now, there are lot of false/failed forecast given by the PAG-ASA. I think the forecaster needs more training in giving the correct weather predictions. Also, they should have to upgrade, if really needs to, the instruments for the forecasting. As of now, I really have doubts on the forecasts given by the bureau.

I duuno. I think whether we like it or not, it is the national bureau that informs us of our climate and weather. We kinda have nio choice since all major networks subscribe to them, (I think Abs too since or are they still have their own weather forecast?) Not many people have cable to tune in just to know about the weather and sometimes, they hardly mention us in their weather reports. So, we're stuck with them and unless they get the new technology that they need, we're all suffering from 'mis-diagnosis' of their reports. I just hope that next time, they would com paste in their predictions or we're all having a bad weather.

Hi anne! I just hope that the government would take this matter into consideration. What we can do perhaps is to be more careful. In the province of Albay, our beloved governor really takes action especially on matter concerning the safety of his constituents. Most especially that the weather is so unpredictable. But as to the forecasting, maybe the issues should be forwarded directly to the national government.
