I had a pretty intense discussion, the other day about this type of situation: Men always get paid better than women, if they have the exact same job and responsibilities. I think that we get paid the same, but I never know how much money does a female colleague receives, because of the policy of the firm. Do you ever think about stuff like this, or do you know any cases where a female and a male that occupy the same position and get paid different?

I am sure there are men out there getting paid better than women, while there are also women out there getting higher pay than men doing the same work. It is not uncommon for employer to pay each employee differently after a while base on their qualification, skill, experience and real time work progress. It is just not possible to generalize that men always get paid higher than women in the work place. Many factors are at play here when one want to compare a woman and a man doing exactly the same job and task in a same time frame that produce the same quality of work each time in a real world scenario is not possible at all.

Everything you say is true, but the case my girlfriend was talking about was, if the man and the woman have the same education and the same responsibilities, he will get a bigger check. Anyway, until proven otherwise, I think they all get the same money, even though there are some differences.

no, this is a rumor that people commonly believe. it has more to do with the careers women and men choose. men get paid more because they go into careers that offer more money.

Who knows. I mean is there really any way to prove this? If men do? It depends on the situation. And we all have different levels of experience & education. So I feel like this would be impossible to prove!

It depends on the industry and the region. Nowadays, we would like to think that there is less sexism in the developed world, but really a lot of it is still there. I think that in most situations, it'll be about the same, except possibly with things like manual labor jobs where a man would be more valuable. Of course, this is a very controversial subject, and as a man without all that much work experience, my opinion is probably not all that important.

I think in the private sector where the boss is male, there female gets the benefit....and if the female is beautiful then she gets more....And In some sectors, male gets some...lolzzz Happy Mylotting...

Actually this issue goes both ways. A man can get paid higher even though a woman may have that same job and vice versa. This situation could happen due to two possibilities, education and experience. Think about it, women tend to go and further their education more than men do. Therefore, I could be an educator at a high school, and so could a man, but if I have a Doctorate and he has his Bachelor's Degree, the school will most likely pay the person with a higher education more. But if the education is on the same level, and the man has been there longer than I have, he gets paid more due to experience. I have came across this discussion with many people before, and I've only heard pay differences in those whose occupation in in education. I'm not sure about other occupations, but that does not mean that they don't have the same situation.
