I opted for timeline months ago. Recently, my friend posted that her page set to timeline without her consent. Is this true? Is going timeline compulsory for all facebook users that the management sets all to auto-timeline?

I don't think so, there must be a consent when timeline is about to launch and its up to the user will he/she will choose to set a timeline or remain into the default interface of his/her account.Your friend might did something before the timeline to his facebook has set or published and beside you have to set a timeline background before it has to be publish. There must be someone who did that to his facebook account or otherwise...

I disagree with your first sentence. Why should their be consent from a user? You are using their service afterall. Same with this site (mylot) they can change it in any way they wish with little or no user base feedback. Just because you use someones site doesn't mean you have the right to say 'im not using this at all take it away.' They have always said that the time line feature will roll out slowly and only those that wanted to opt into it would, however they also made clear that it was the way facebook was going and like it or not everyone would get the rollout eventually. The time-line feature has been around for what, over 6 months now? So launch has long past. I can't put my hands on the article right now but I did read one a while back which stated either Q1 or Q2 (quarter 1 / 2) of this year for the rollout to all users. On my own personal experience ive been using it since the first versions were in use and I actually like it compared to the old dreary fb profiles. Just one of those things once you get used to the layout its not a bad profile setup. It was time for a change in my opinion from the old facebook profiles.

They usually asked you to activate your timeline or else they won't be able to launch.Unless you are to activate your timeline no one can activate that and not with any admin in the FB. I mean to say its your own choice that's why they will still need your consent whether to have your timeline activated..

I guess that's what many are also trying to point out. I think my friend's profile page got changed thru his girlfriend. Hahaha..conjugal passwords. not a good idea.

I know! Who is Facebook to determine that 'what's ideal for them' is the same as 'what's ideal for everyone.' For me, it's their thinking that everyone's machine is 'chat-ready.' I don't know about anyone else's, but mine is NOT! Yet--no matter what I do--Facebook keeps RECONNECTING my chat-bar & REUPDATING my news-feed page WHILE I AM ON IT (which I DO NOT WANT THEM TO DO!) ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I guess we have to stick up to their changes. Well, it is their domain after all.

Yes, it was set automatically at a particular date. Some time in March, if I am not mistaken. I did see the notification that it will be changed automatically. I personally don't see the point of the time-line but some people I know are raving about it.

i dont know if it went aoto but i wish i had not agreed to have it. i hate it so it seems does about everyone else.. things are even harder to see and move around there now and i had issues before but not as much seems like every time everyone gets used to a page/site and you finally figure out how to work with it they change everything for the worse.

So do some of my friends. They are trying to find means to revert back to the old look. I guess they simply have to steer away from suspicious apps that leads them to an unfortunate end.

I looked on facebook this morning because I heard they were forcing people in to the timeline but, for now, I have not been switched. I am still under the same layout as I have been. I have actually heard from a lot of people that we will not have a choice but I don't know if we will or not. They haven't changed me yet.

That is good for you. The changes have been made to many already. They may be sorting people out depending on usage? I don't know what's on the minds of FB geniuses.

Yes, many of my friends are complaining about auto-timeline and since most of them are not used to like the timeline features of FB. Personally I will prefer non-timeline profile because its faster to load than timeline.

I totally agree with you on this. The timeline feature seems to drag. Perhaps, positive changes would come out of this soon..or far! hehe..

Timeline is part of the basic functionality of Facebook. You cannot remove it or opt out of it. It is possible to change YOUR view of the page but this article explains why that could be inadvisable: http://www.azfamily.com/news/technology/Data-Doctors-Can-you-remove-Facebooks-Timeline-feature-143858996.html

The quote section is gone and the about me section is gone. The old profile was more clean, minimal and simple. Now when you look at the timeline profile page its big,an waste of space. Now am still trying to get use to it,every day is a new change in facebook. So look out for a new change again.

What I heard is that group or fan pages have switched automatically to the timeline. I don't think this happened to personal profiles too, or if they did, I don't know how, because I still see some profiles that have the old layout, not the time line.

I heard the fb admin really are redesigning the whole thing. No old looks unless preferred but somehow every page would be timeline format.
