as I usually am this week. I thought I would tell everyone so they wouldn't worry about me. One of my brother's called last Friday to say that Easter was close, where were we having it this year and what should he bring. First he said it was that Sunday and I said, "No, it's the 15." And he said, "No, I meant next Sunday, the 8th." I have a multi-religion calendar. On it, it says Othofox Easter on the 15th and just the word Easter on the 8th. Wow! So I only had a little more than a week to clean and I thought I had two weeks. This is the second time the Orthodox people have confused me. I went to a Catholic Church one time and understood nothing. I had been to English, French, Spanish, and Latin masses. I had gotten something out of all of them, but this was really unformilliar. I kidded someone that this was "All Greek to me." Someone pointed to a sign, it really was Greek, Greek Orthodox. That explains that. So I hope I get my cleaning done in time.

As someone who grew up with the Gregorian calender and joined a church with the Julian one, I will attempt to explain. First, Easter is determined by the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox same as Passover. However, because the Julian and Gregorian calenders are 13 days different, this means that sometimes it can be wildly different dates. The Eastern Orthodox Church also applies the formula so that Easter always falls after Passover, since the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ took place after he entered Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. In the Western Church, Easter sometimes precedes Passover by weeks. so... there you have a very abridged version of the differences... sorry to confuse you Oh, we in the Orthodox Church prefer to call it Pascha...

French call it Pasques or something like that. I was in France for the Gregorian Calendar Easter when I was a kid. I wish it was next week, I need 2 weeks to clean. That's why when I saw Easter on the 15th out of the corner of my eye, I was hoping it was ours. Thanks for the explanation, I'm sure many people were educated today. Thanks and take care.

I know Easter sort of snuck up on everyone this yr. I cannot believe that this Sunday is Easter. Since there has not been much talk of it like back when I was growing up, it has snuck up on us, and there is not much really anyone can really do. I do know that I have to work Easter Sunday after attending church, and I am doing an Event with my Jerky, and Items I have crocheted on Saturday so this will be a Super busy weekend for me as well. Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the time with your family.

Have fun with your family. I am glad someone called you and they did not just suddenly show up. Hubby said he enjoyed visiting a Greek Orthodox church, with friends who were getting married. Have a wonderful time. We will work Friday, then I will sing in a service at my home church then we will go to Oklahoma and celebrate with my family, with an egg hunt and then I will sing for part of the service on Sunday. Possibly stay over until Monday as I think I have a merchandising job to do between here and there.

good luck with your cleaning! i still don't know where my family and I will spend the holy week. since we're located in a city near private resorts and hot springs, they're like thinking of a family reunion by renting a private resort. its better for us since we don't have to spend it just at home and that kids will surely enjoy swimming. its also summer here in our country. have a happy week ahead of you.

That would be nice. We can't financially manage a trip right now and my husband only has Friday thru Sunday off. So I'm glad your family can offord such and have the entire week off. Even children don't have much time off any more. We used to have the entire week. Thanks for your response. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter.

I get tired so easily that I do a little, rest, do a little, rest, do a little, rest, etc. So I don't think I'll be able to help anyone and I'll be lucky if I have enough cleaning done for my family to come over. Does your Mom know you have bronchitis? Can she come another Sunday instead?

I hope you have fun. Yes I've seen that on the calendar's before. Some of the calendar's I've gotten in the past have many holiday's including Boxing (or is it Boxer's?) day for Canada. Good Luck with cleaning up. This house would never be ready for anything like that, one more reason why I need to get out.

It's boxing, they give a box of something to like the mailman or others not in the family who do nice things by them. I don't think my house is going to be ready either, but I've got to give it a shot.

that is understandable that yo wont be here fr the holy week. i don't know what we will be having or what's going to happen next week for that but i maybe same old tradition, fast, go to church, walk around the city with candles til night until we reach the church again. but i will probably just stay at home because i haven't been feeling good lately. i will just go straight to church at night on black Saturday.

Oh thanks for the heads up and we will be sure now not to worry. I'm sure many of us will be in the same situation, lots of cleaning, etc for the holidays. I hope the time with your family is enjoyed and you all have a fun and lovely time. Here it will just be simple and easy, I hope. I will probably make something special for dessert, if I can find a good mixer in time. Mine broke.
