Teen Clothing Stores " Overrated"

Now, I myself am a teenager so I am into the clothing stores such as Aeropostal, Hollister, American Eagle, Pink, etc. Lately I've been reading around on how people think these stores and styles are "overrated". My outlook on things is that these things aren't overrated, but merely a phase that most teens, boy and girl alike go through. I mean I know right now, when I'm 30 or 40 years old, I'm not be going around in Pink yoga pants with PINK and stuff across my butt, but still. I own lots of clothes from Aeropostal and Hollister, and the clothes are very good quality. Ya there a little expensive, but if you come when things are on sale and buy a size or two better than normal, the clothes will last a long time and be worth the expense. Another thing is when people say that all these stores are " overrated" because all the shirts are the same, just the logo plastered all over the shirts and stuff, and I disagree. Aeropostal, Hollister, American Eagle,Pink, all these stores have very cute tops, jackets, and bottoms that don't have the stores name written all over them. People think these stores are "overrated" because lots of teens are into them and wearing them. Like I said I think it's mostly a phase. I went from being a Justice clothing fanatic to being into Aeropostal and Hollister, and who knows what's next. What's your opinion on this topic, overrated or it's just a phase, or maybe you have your own ideas on why these stores are popular with teenagers.

Personally I do not like those stores. The biggest reason is because I have my own personal style and do not want to own a top that 500 other girls in my school own(my school has 3,000 students btw). I'm also not a fan of clothing that puts labels on the outside. Is it really necessary to have Aero written on all of your shirts? I rather spend my money on a piece of clothing that maybe 2 other people in my school own. So it seems to be more of an issue of individuality than "overrated." Teenagers should focus more on being themselves and having their own style than buying clothing because someone says that's the "cool" thing to wear. I absolutely hate seeing all of the teens wearing those stupid PINK pants. They look comfy so I possibly would wear them at home but I would never wear those things in public. So basically what I'm trying to say is that you should try to wear what you truly like and not what other people think you should like. Create your own personal style.

I truly agree with you. Unlike your school my school only has about 250 kids in the whole school, so 500 kids owning the same top as me is totally out if the question. I agree with you on the individual style thing. I wear Aeropostal and Hollister because I WANT too, not because everyone else wears it. I mean those aren't the only stores I shop at, I love rue21's graphic tees, and I like styles for less too. I also enjoy looking in Target's clothing department, they have some pretty cool Mickey Mouse, and Hello Kitty tops. And lol at the Pink yoga pants thing. Ya I'm a dancer so I do get their shorts and yoga pants for class, and they are pretty comfy, but to go to school, or in another public place wearing them? Nope! My mom hates when I have to go someplace after dance dressed like that, let alone just going to school for no reason in yoga pants. Ha thanks for your input.:)

i think the prices in these stores are crazy! as a mother of two teenaged daughters, i know what you mean but also as a writer, i have researched and written about how these stores (and other designers) mark up their prices upwards of 100%. for something that maybe costs $5 to make, $10 for the store to purchase, the marked up 100%. that is just crazy.

well... they're overrated, besides of being featured in Jersey Shore so i would be ashamed of wearing that clothing, nothing like stamping ur own shirts and buying cheap pants =)

It's not a matter of being overrated, but a matter of teenagers wearing the close simply because of the brand name. Wearing clothes because you like how they look is one thing, but wearing it because it says Hollister would be "overrated". Just like people using Apple products simply because of the brand name rather than actually liking the product they are paying for.
