Are you a SUGARPHOBE?

With all the research and stuff in the news lately, are you one of those people who belong in this category? Are you so afraid of sugar and the effects of sugar that you avoid it at all costs? Do you replace it with sugar substitutes or just avoid anything sweet entirely? Do you do it because you are watching your weight or trying to lose weight? While I certainly agree that there is WAY too much needless added sugar in things such as BARBEQUE sauce and TOMATO sauce and KETCHUP, people who freak about sugar in things it belongs in really irritate me. I don't feel that SUGAR by itself is the culprit. I wish there wasn't so much unnecessary added sugar in things that doesn't need to be there but the answer to that is just be careful what you eat and/or the amount of it you eat. I don't think totally avoiding anything (unless it seriously makes you sick every time) is a prudent or reasonable solution.

I cannot even dare to think of a day when I will not have my chocos or even mug of coffee... And being a Sugarphobe is a distant dream for people like me... Though I do not go for sweet stuff like the ones we have in India but I cannot do anything to stay away from my share of Chocos and coffee.

I love coffee I am a Starbucks queen. I don't dump sugar per se into my coffee, I just use flavored creamer which is pretty much doing the same thing unless I buy sugar free. I haven't figured out which is more frustrating, sugar free or fat free. Both taste different, not enough to always bother me but enough that I notice.

I am not a sugarphobe EXCEPT for when it comes to fake sugars... but then again I drink sodas and it has high fructose corn syrup which is basically another unhealthy sugar so...

LOL! I am a proud diet coke drinker. I would rather use artificial sweetener than have 9 or 12 teaspoons of sugar in one can of soda. Drinking your calories is not a good idea, so if I really want soda, I'm not willing to spend calories on it lol. I do want to say though that all those reactions and side effects people gripe about from artificial sweeteners do not apply to me. If they did, maybe I would have an issue with them

I don't think so either. I just had ice cream for dessert. Have a nice evening!

Well I wouldn't say I freak out about sugar, but I do tend to avoid it. The thing is, we can get all the sugar that we need just by eating fruit. The natural sugars in fruit are healthy and plentiful. We tend to over-sugar everything, and we don't need anymore sugar in our diet. I avoid sugary cereals, snacks, and I don't even use substitutes. I've gone a bit earthy, and would rather use raw honey or fruit to sweeten things. I'm not concerned about my weight, never have been! (I'm a skinny thing.) But I am concerned about my general health and the state of my skin and the organs under my skin that I can't see.

I agree with what you said. I don't think there are foods that we should eliminate completely from our diet, unless they pose serious risks to our health. A balanced diet is the key for a healthy body and mind. Our body needs sugar for normal functioning and I don't think that avoiding sugar is a good idea.

Our bodies need a certain amount of sugar and salt but these days a lot foods especially processed ones have too much of these things in them. My mom has diabetes so she must not have sugar. Too much salt is not good for people with high blood pressure. I use sugar and salt in moderation and I think that's o.k. but to cut it out altogether unless you have a medical condition , is not necessary, I think.
