Just Diagnosed

I am 24(almost 25- in May) years old and I was JUST diagnosed with Scoilosis? How is this even possible? I remember doing a test years ago in the 6th grade and I was just fine. Recently though, I have been having major lower back pain and I went into the urgent care when I realized that the pain shooting down my legs and in my lower back was so unbearable I couldn't walk. They took an xray and then told me that I have scoilosis at the very bottom of by back. They said instead of an "s"shape that goes out, the bottom of my spine curves at the bottom like a "c". My hips because of it are actually quite out of alignment as well. What should I do about this? Is there anyway to help my pain or fix the alignment of my hips? They only gave me a muscle relaxer and said follow up with your regular doctor.

I hadn't heard of it so I did a mylot search. Wikipedia states that it can and does occur at any age including adult, and from many causes. You really need to consult your doctor as any answer given here would just be a guess.

Petersum, that is good to know that it does occur in any age. The Doctor I had made it seem like I was a 'rare' case that I had no idea that I had scoilosis and have it present in this matter. I will follow up with my own doctor, but just wanted to know if anyone on the Sciolosis forum had any tips of how to help the pain besides using pain killers?

It can happen. The best thing to do is to follow your doctor's instruction to the letter so your scoliosis will not worsen. There are some people that needs to wear a brace for life because of scoliosis.

I was also diagnosed with scoliosis a few years back when I was suffering from severe back pains. They has x-rays taken on my spinal column and it was tipped a little sideways to the right, nothing so serious but the doctor advised that it could worsen. I am not allowed to lift heavy objects. I was given prescription for some calcium tablets which I didn't take. I just drink fresh milk now and then for the calcium requirements. I just had my bone density checked and it is still within normal range. From what the doctor said, scoliosis has no cure except through surgery. my scoliosis is hardly noticeable and I still maintain a good posture but I always suffer from back pains after sitting all day in front of the computer.
