Diabetes ?

I know I drink a lot of soda in a day. 3 cans with three meals. My grandfather died from diabetes, I know I might get type 2 soon if I don't cut off my sodas intake. My question is how do you replace sodas with any drinks out there? To me, sodas can make me refresh myself, what will happen if I reduce my sodas intake to 1 can a day? Will I get diabetes too?

drinking lots of soda is not good..it will affect your health..And also you should not eat lots of junk food..Because it will badly affect your health in the future..Always when you are doing something, you should think whether it will affect you not..i think if you think like this, you can get rid of your addiction towards soda..

You should stop it while it's still early. You're still young so it won't be too late to change to a healthier lifestyle. You can replace sodas with lemonade or natural fruit juices. It's still better to not take sodas at all. Just stop all of it.

using a few diet sodas a day will not make you diabetic but will help you to make changes to things like fruit juices, tomato juice which is low in calories and try V8 as its got a lot of different veggies in it and it tastes great

You know, my mother also says that regularly. So I take note but never do as she says. I will regret it someday, I know.

But still, fruit juices are still better than diet sodas, right? I heard that diet sodas are high in sodium.

you may because diabetes tends to run in families. my suggestion would be to replace the sodas with water but if you need a taste, you can buy flavours to add to your water to make it taste better.

Ooh...I am so scared to get palpitations soon. I can cut off sodas but not for a long period of time, maybe one to three months only. The taste of soda keep coming back to me, ooh I hope I can resist the taste.

Hi ChoiYee, Drinking soda will never a good idea even if you cut down from 3 cans to 1 can a day. It make no different. The sugar content in a can of soda is just too high, if you were to consume everyday, you are very close to diabetes. Never forget, there are other things that also will cause your blood sugar increase like the starchy foods like rice and bread, all these are blood sugar contributor. It is better to totally avoid soda drinks and replace them with healthier drink like chocolate drink will definitely better for your health.

Drink a lot of soda is not nice for your health also. Better you drink it lesser. Instead of soda, you can drink fruit juice, smoothy, milk, or pure water, etc. To know you can get diabetes or not, you should go to a doctor and ask him about your case. I am sure the doctor will give you a correct answer. Wish you a nice day!

Don't guess, Wongchoiyee. You are not a doctor at all. Don't be nervous when go to see a doctor. You should think that go to see a doctor regularly is the best way to care your health. Be brave to face with it, if you get sickness, the doctor will give you a good direction to move a sickness out of your body. Love your body, love your health by visiting the doctor regularly. Hope you are always healthy.

diabetes 1 is the dangerous kind not 2. you can't really escape it if its heritary but you can prepare for the worst. That way you can be ready for diabetes and you wont need to take injections.

I really don`t know whether drinking sodas will make you diabetic. For that you will have to consult your doctor. However doctors have warned not to overindulge in any drinks with fizz like sodas,Pepsi, Coke etc because it produces gas in the stomach.Addiction to anything is bad and if diabetes is hereditary in your family, you should take all precautions to avoid taking anything that will lead to it even if it means sacrificing your favourite soda.Be strong willed and stop drinking sodas altogether if you want to live a healthy life.

You should stop thinking specifically about diabetes, but start thinking about your health in general. I started losing weight this time last year, and I decided that I was going to stop drinking anything apart from water because there are so many added chemicals in drinks that you can buy in the shops which you just don't need at the end of the day. You should cut back on the amount of sugary foods that you eat, and go and see your doctor and get some information about how you could make your lifestyle much healthier for yourself.

Wow, that can't be good for you. It's hard no matter what. I used to drink 3 energy drinks (Red Bull & Rockstars) every day and I would ALSO sometimes have soda - in addition! I didn't drink like ANY water, which is NOT good for you. It's always really hard to quit an addiction. Incredibly hard. So, there's no easy way to do it but to start immediately. Either you can go cold turkey (this is what I did), or start giving yourself less and less. The second option is probably the better one. You could start by replacing all of the soda you drink with diet soda. It's still not good for you, especially in that quantity that you drink it, but you cut back on hundreds of calories (and sugar) that way. I don't know if you have this soda where you are, but try Diet Rite (0 sodium, 0 carb, 0 calories - it's basically carbonated water. Better for you than normal diet soda). Then slowly start replacing soda with water. If you dislike the taste of water, try using lemon juice OR mixes you can add in (sugar-free) like Crystal Light. The point is to start drinking water and stop drinking soda. Once you start drinking water, you really get a taste for it (and 'crave it'). If you are addicted to caffeine, try drinking coffee or green tea. I was also a hardcore soda & energy drink drinker, so I know how hard this is. I'm proud to say I haven't drank either soda OR energy drink since Mid-November of last year. . Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on how you do or if you need any support!

Well, first of all, I have to say that just because you drink soda doesn't mean that you are going to develop diabetes. That said, it is good for your health to start to cut soda out of your daily intake because of the fact that it is so high in sugar. With that said, the best thing that you can drink is water, but I know a lot of people don't like water. I am one of those people, so I will make some really diluted Kool-Aid and drink that instead of soda.

I used to work graveyard shifts for too long (7 years). For sometime, I brought energy drinks to work. If you drink one, you would know the contents like caffeine(for sure), taurine,.... I'm not even familiar with some of the contents. If I work 6 nights, that means 6 energy drinks. Since I picked up extra shifts, I was thinking that I'm not going to be healthy if I kept working there. Then at some point, I was feeling discomfort around my tooth. Because of this, I stopped energy drink and turned to soda (Coke) - not going to help me in the long run either. I'm glad I didn't work there anymore. It seems to me that you have developed a habit and reliance to drinking soda. Is it running in the family? Did you bring one from home or you buy one everyday? Why not drink water or juice? Still you want to alternate between water and juice - not juice all the time. Another suggestion, which is actually not going to help with your health in the long run. Every time you drink soda, you sip it. That's what I did with drinking energy drinks and soda. When I worked, 1 energy drink can last me a longer time and so do sodas. In other words, you may not need to drink 3 soda cans. Just drink 1 - after a while it may not taste good if you leave it out for long. All in all, you just need to cut your soda intake and you have been realizing this. There are other ways where you can refresh yourself. Stretching is one, regular exercises is another one. Of course, you can't do regular exercises during work hours, but you can always stretch a little bit.

Try drinking Club Soda(bubbly water, carbonated water,)instead of soda, and if you need a different taste, add some lemon juice and some Splenda. This way,you get your vitamin C,and drop the calories and all that junk that they put in sodas.I drink mostly water, but I make myself this drink and enjoy it: the juice of 1 lemon, 3 tablespoons of maple syrup(could use honey,or Splenda) some Cayenne pepper(a pinch) 1 liter of water.Mix and have cup when you feel like having a soda.

wow that is a lot. i am not fond of sodas, i was addicted to it when i was in high school... but i cut it off and started drinking water instead. You can do it. I did. Water is a lot more refreshing and healthier. I also have high blood sugar which i am afraid will result to diabetes as it also runs in my family.. so i cut soda off, i do not drink any as much as possible.. and i cut off sugar intake as well, less of pastries and candies..

Cut your sugar intake for better health. You can get refreshed with plain water with ice cubes and a bit of lemon or lime juice. If you don´t buy so many sodas, not only you will have better health but it will help you reduce weight. There´s no need to think of diabetes at your age.

randy is diabetic (type 2) and he drinks diet soda once in a while. He has also been drinking the single servings of crystal light and kool aid (both really cheap at Walmart). It is a great way to flavor water. I would get tested to see if you are pre-diabetic because if you can control your sugars by diet and exercise you have a better chance of not having to take insulin.

Drinking whatever soda or any other soft drink is not quite the way to help digestion. The best is to have one's meal and wait for a couple of hours and then drink a good amount of water. Juices and stuff could be something that one takes to quench one's thirst. And you being prone to diabetics all the more reason why you should avoid sodas.

Sugar give energy and diabetes in long run. - Better no soda.
I guess sugar comes from many source, one of them is soda drinks which give a big source of sugar which is bad, totally removing soda is best maybe 1 week per can, and plenty of water , also reduce sugar in your tea and coffee. Good exercise routine also will use up your sugar storage.U can replace soda with soya drink or fruit juice, or just plain water.Sometime soda drinks with low sugar also can.
