Do You Really Love Your Country?

Philippines

People around have been doing their best to get out of the country for a variety of reasons. Some said "I need to get a job that is high paying so I must go to other country". Others simply want to get out because they love to see the other views outside which they think must be better to see than those views in their own country. High paying job? Can't they find it in their own country? Nice places that are really pleasing to the eyes? Can't they find them in their own hometown? When I asked them if they really love their country? I could hardly hear them answer, "Yes". But they answered it that way, anyway. Then, I keep on internalizing the issue: Do these people really love their country? If so, why do you need to get out and simply be relaxed in seeing a lot of negative news about the country. Actually, my point is if you really love your country, don't you see that your country needs you.

hi keshlois Quite a thought provoking discussion. First, Love for ones Country has nothing to do with living or making a living. If my country doesnt provide me a better opportunity and I can, I will definitely go out to find better opportunities. Reason: Country will exist for me only if I exist and my existence is my family's better living. Next - you mention - "in seeing a lot of negative news about the country." - Blame this on the Media who always takes pride to explode the Negative Issues (and make them blow out of proportion) and make money out of it. Do they ever show any goodies about the country? Even if they do, these are just short lived and printed on inner pages... not on cover page. So as the Negatives are the ones which are mostly flashed and highlighted many dont have a choice - like it or not, but this is the only thing that they (media) show. Personally - This is quite a subjective discussion and for me as I said above, my family is more important that the Country... and If I had to select, I would select my family. This does not mean I hate my country or neg it... it is just my preference and priority.

Hi thesids, that is an intelligent idea. Taking into consideration the love of country as to love of the family. I am getting some peace now. Thanks.

I love my country, its a nice place and full of wonders. I spent most of my vacation in my country.I prefer to go back to my country than to travel to some other country. Its my choose to leave my country because I'm not really sure of my future there because of other people manage my country and politics really disappointing.Don't get me wrong sometimes people got no other choice but to seek their future in some other directions.

I am but upset of the last two comments but anyway every answer is personal and actually, everything you have said is right. All of your ideas and experiences that you have shared here are being taken into consideration by my very bothered concern mind. I have been thinking whether it is wise or not to really plan to leave my own country. I have the chance, yes. But it is not easy to do so for I have been meditating why I am a citizen of this country.

I love my country, just not happy with a few things of its own. And true fully, my country really do not have scenic views that I can get from other countries. My country is very small in fact. Some may not even have heard it. Yes, it needs me, that's why I always return to it after a holiday elsewhere...

I wonder where is that small country. Is that an island? I feel like I want to know it, if you do not mind..At least, you still love it anyway. And yes, you can do something for your country. Make it big, okay!

It depends on your personal views towards your own country, each and every person is different. Look at the war torn countries around the world, some leave and some stay to fight it out. That's a difficult post to answer to be honest, its just down to each individual and their personal out look on their own life. I would love to move away but then I see the war torn countries on the news headlines and think to myself, I am actually living in a most wonderful part of the world, why grumble?.

You are right Lisona with your idea that is really quite a difficult to answer for it depends on personal views. That is why I am trying to get some ideas for me to get an answer because I really have been thinking about such a thing.

The country I'm more than fine with, in general. The people who are running it, well I'm not quite sure if they are doing a shot. That is really just the thing about any country. It is a direct reflection of the success or failures of the people running the country. If those people tend to not really do a good job, then they will fall right straight. I just think that the people running things don't have the people's best interests in mind. It is rather a frustrating thing, as it really just makes everyone, from the people to the country in general look awful. And the attitudes of people get twisted a certain way. Then again, given the state of the world, I'm not sure that too many people will be in a position to do a good job.

The world is not perfect, even people and the country we lived. People have different lifestyle and different desire. They want themselves to be satisfied. Working outside the country or visiting to other country does not mean we love less our country. If the pay is low and our family is going to die for hunger, we must think of other ways to survive even if we must leave our country to survive. Unless you choose to die in poverty or you choose to die in hunger with your family, it is better to stay in our country to show our dedication and love for our county, but that would be very difficult. Some people left their country have different reasons. For example, they see a beautiful place, which is better than the place they see with their own country, and so they went outside the country to visit other countries. It is like within family. If a child decided to socialize to other people outside the family, the child does not mean he love less his family. He has a freedom to explore and learn new things, and admire new things. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and it is not only for humans, but we, people also sees beauty in a different way.

Both my parents had left the country to find work. When they returned, they both suffered losing money to robbers and pick pockets so you could say they should have not returned to the country soon. My mother has grown afraid of the country because of the earthquakes too. But abroad she again suffered being robbed and another Filipina was brutally killed near where she lives. The problem when people get a job here is that the less fortunate would have nowhere to work for the jobs have already been filled and as result more would resort to crime.

We can't clear completely our memory of where we was born and grow up. We can change our nationality but can't change the character that's belong our nation inside us. I haven't contributed any "big thing" to my country yet but i am proud to say that i am a good citizen of my country. I have no idea to think that what my country does for me, I ask myself, what did i do for my country? If anyone asks me, do i love my country, i will say yes immediately. Why not? when it is where i grow up, where my family members living in, where i had many nice memories in childhood. And somehow, anywhere i live later, any lifestyle i adapt for survival, my nation character till exist inside me.

Very interesting question to ponder. I would say, I cannot say I love my country and I cannot completely say that I hate it. However, I guess I hate my country than love my country. However again it does not mean that I totally hate it. I still love my country, the culture, the people. Sometimes when I watched TV I got to compare my country from other country and I assume other countries are far better than the Philippines. When I look at all the issues and problems of my country, I just wish I had a chance to leave the Philippines. I envy those Filipinos who are successful in leaving this country and find new life in other parts of the globe.

This is a really great question. Thanks for asking it. In recent years, I have been greatly concerned about many things that I've seen going on in my country. I will still say though that I think I live in the greatest country in the world, but I am deeply concerned about the future and where we are headed. There are so many things we used to be able to count on as much as one counted on the sun to rise in the morning. Now? Not so much. In other words, people used to be able to work hard all their lives, save their money and then relax and enjoy a great retirement. Now, since 2008 when so many people lost that dream (and many other dreams) it just doesn't seem like we can count on the old standards anymore. We just aren't sure what the future holds. Even though I said something about the 'greatest country in the world', don't get me wrong. I would love to visit EVERY country on the planet. I would love to see all the beautiful places this planet has to offer, along with having an opportunity to see all the different cultures and how other people live. I'd love to try all the food too! I'm sure there are MANY wonderful countries in this world. At the end of the day, probably what makes a country great for each one of us is the opportunity to live our lives with good friends and family.

I love my country but not to a point that I am willing to die for it. But other than dying, I do my best to help my country prosper. I help the economy by doing my part as an employee, working and paying for my taxes. I also help clean the environment by doing my share of keeping my surroundings clean. That's all I can do for now, but I know it would be a great deal if everyone does their share in loving their country.

I love my country. Despite things that happen in it, I still love it. Brutal acts and any type of crimes happen all over the world. I don't think that is a good reason to stop loving your country. Not even bad politicians are a good enough reason for doing so. My country is beautiful. You can go to the mountains and sky in winter, a sport which I enjoy a lot. You can also hike during summer in the mountains and in some places the snow never melts. During summer you can also go to the sea side. We have a big beach on the Black Sea shore. We also have plains, hill, not just mountains. We have muddy volcanoes and other interesting natural phenomena. We have a lot of castles and an interesting history. The vampire myth also started from my country. I really like it.
