hi friends. as an IPL viewer, the only job we should be doing is just watch the match.thats all. during the matches we have seen a power depleted chennai host a 4 hour mega show which pretty much means more power cuts. we have seen blazes and rain disrupt matches ( extra innings T20 wont breathe a word about blazes just like they conveniently forgot to mention about the bomb scare at banglore last season.) and ofcourse some serious altercation between players and umpires. besides all that,we have seen crowds filling up the stadium and you think "wow.loks like this season is going to be a success" now if we are typical cricket viewer, one should stop right there and not go search for news editorial talking about the dip in TVR ratings.lol as i just said some of us dont know what these figures mean, but atleast we know 1.46 is lesser than 3.33,right? so we use that as move along. you know that opening ceremony staring all bollywood stars and the blue haired katy perry? it had a TV rating of 1.16 compared to last year rating of 3.33.(and you thought 2011 ratings are worse) then the TVR rating went down by 18.7% from last years first week games of 4.63 to this years 3.76. we dont go any further. i am pretty sure that IPl money bags fill more from TV viewership than from the crowd at the stadium. may be i am wrong. atleast last year, they had the excuse of the world cup for dipping in ratings. wonder what reason they have for this season. P.S. 3 of the big sponsors of IPL have pulled themselves out of IPL because they dont think they are getting good returns. lol. time to bring back lalit modi?

Hi there.. Its quite possible that IPL 5 is not drawing the same amount of TV viewership as IPL 4. I personally feel that its b'cos people have had too much of Cricket. I think this cricket season has been a bit too much. And, most of the earlier matches (before IPL 5) have been matches in which the Indian team has lost. I am pretty surprised at MSD's team - Chennai Super Kings. They have not been doing well. Their fire power seems a lot less than before.... Now, lets look at IPL 4. If I remember correctly, it started off after India had won the ICC World Cup. All of us were fired up that MSD would fire again. So, we watched IPL 4 very regularly... I guess it could be the reason why the ratings are seeing a decline. But then, its again possible that towards the later games of IPL 5, viewership might increase.. Lets see. :-)

they say there is also another reason.the length of the format. its far too long so people are doing what they do best.they skip matches where their favourite players are not playing. me for example, wont bother much if it involves punjab, deccan, kolkata. so i skip.

I think as this becomes a regular tournament and one that is played every year, the TRP ratings of earlier matches is always going to be low. The tournament will start to gain as the tournament goes on. BTW, today's match of CSK could have exploded the TRP ratings at least in the Tamil Nadu region!! But of course, power cuts probably have a bigger adverse affect on the TRP ratings. Cheers! Ram

I think IPL has lost its momentum and popularity. People are not much excited about IPL in this season and I think in next season the graph will further go down.

It was bound to happen as there is a lot of cricket has been happening in these few months. As we have seen the ODIs in the australia and then it was followed by the asia cup and while the australian series the BPL was also happening so the viewers have seen a lot of matches so they are quiet bored for now.It was also bound to happen as in the start it was a new thing for the people in India so they were enjoying it and now they have seen it so the peoples are choosing to watch some matches only or they are keeping themselves updated from the internet. One more thing is that there are so many matches in the series so they will be watching some matches only and for now they are not watching but in the coming days when it comes to the fight to make it to the semis at that time the viewers will watch more matches.

there is no surprise that the TV rating is going down. there may be lot of excuses to put forward by BCCI. But i think the real reasons are lot of cricket made peoples obese of it and they loose the real interest to cricket. Other reason may be the poor performance of Indian team over last few tournaments. Another fact is that except the last game( MI VS RR) all other games were slow scoring games and was boring to some extent.

hey stardustcdsd When the IPL was launched in 2008, it was touted to be the ultimate cricket extravaganza. To be fair, it delivered everything that it promised. The sizzle of bollywood, voluptuous cheerleaders and of course plenty of exciting T20 cricket created an irresistible concoction that was lapped up greedily by the public. This more or less the story for the first three editions. Since last year through, the bubble has slowly but surely started to burst. Bollywood, which had so far refrained from competing with the IPL, is releasing 22 films this season. What can be the possible reasons for the degradation/ I would like to say about IPL5 2012. There are five reasons for why IPL TV rating are going downhill? 5. The 'novelty factor' is gone 4. International participation is quite patchy 3. An overdose of cricket 2. Team loyalties taken for granted 1. A wretched viewing experience thanking you
