Proud Woman - Girl Power!

I sure am. Guess what? I used a drill to screw a shelf on to some brackets yesterday. I'm a girl, not a girly girl, but a weakling all the same. Yet I can mark out wood, use a saw, use a drill to screw stuff in, rewire a plug, change a fuse and change a light bulb. How about you ladies, or fellas with ladies? Are there things you're proud that you can manage without a man? Aside from opening a glass jar of course...

There are things that I am proud I can manage. I like the fact that I can choose a man without being bothered with the concern of my livelihood for one. I have done a lot of different things throughout my life to assure my independence. I like the fact that I know quite a bit about cars too. I usually know before I take it to a mechanic what is wrong with it to begin with so I can tell them what I need done instead of leaving it up to them and getting shafted. My grandfather was quite the mechanic and I was his little shadow. He taught me a ton about cars. I can't really fix them but I can troubleshoot them alright.

Hi TheIrishClog, Wow, good for you! I have never used a drill in my life, don't have one so have had to be very resourceful since....well I've pretty much always done most of the DIY things round the home but do more of them now I'm on my own. I don't mind though, and it does make you feel proud of yourself, doesn't it! I really think kudos to you! I recently put up a door curtain complete with the curtain rail and the tie back thing. I used a screwdriver and hammer instead of a drill. Before my Dad gave me the hammer I used a can of tomatoes to put up the net curtains I wanted!! I've always been the one to change fuses and light bulbs among other things but wiring a plug....not yet! IrishGal77 :)

Today's girl is quite powerful. I am a girl, too. I can and in most cases i have to repair my own bike, my own car or even do some men's work by myself. When i doing them, sometimes I just feel quite tired but I can make it. So that it makes me feel that there is no need for a man in my life, all things i can make it by myself. That may be the very reason for me not having a boyfriend now.

Fair play to you girl, we are powerful creatures when we want to be. I'm usually not that good at stuff that might be deemed 'man stuff' as I grew up in an all female household with 2 sisters and my mum and dad was never that interested in teaching me 'man stuff' really.

I am proud of being a woman, but I cannot say that it would make me more proud to open a glass jar. In fact, I believe that part of my power is to use my lack of strenght in my favour. I can do many things not many men can, but there are some other chores that men do better than me. So I lead the conversation so that the job is done and I use my own good points. As an example I make my favorite cousin prune my apricot tree while I make some pankakes for tea time. My husband was not capable of making a decent bed, but he did all the jobs that involved screwdrivers and the like. I said where I wanted to hang the pictures and he drilled the holes. I´m very proud that I can make the world work

Giving orders without being a dictator is a very special skill that few people possess, least of all men. Fair play to you marguicha, you get things done even though you might not be able to do them yourself. I get things done by insisting that I intend to do them myself and my man, rather than waiting for impending disaster, gets there before me

I am not too much into construction or building or fixing things but my girlfriend who is a finishing carpenter works as hard as any man, I've seen her at work lifting heavy lumber and things and she loves her job. She is the wife of my husband's partner in their construction business.

Fair play to her. I love to see women doing jobs that are stereotypically 'man's work'.

I was amazed that you are not like other women, you are really empowered. I feel so irritated when a woman was so delicate.
