Version 2: My Brother and Me

April 16, 2012 11:37am CST
Since birth, my brother has always outwitted me: Awards, Studies, Intelligence, Writing, Games and also Health. I'm more prone to sickness. I don't know why how great he exceeds in so many things.. Society favors his good-looks, dashing features, height, kindness, cooking skills (i don't know how to cook) and his meekness. And I am his complete opposite. Though I admit, he is lazy in studying but he doesn't need to coz he doesn't need to study still, get those straight A's and awards..*sigh* some people have all the luck. So I try every activity he indulges in and I give my 110% to beat his areas. Sadly, Lady Luck is not on my side. What frustrates me more is trying this online game he plays namely "ragnarok". He's just so good in explaining stuff, understands those strategies easily and even come up with one right on that instant. *rolls eyes*. I'm aware that I'm pissed that he is just so good. anyways, I still love him as my bro even though we have a cat and mouse going on. I have no problems with him, just that he perseveres more in his life.

The problem is that you keep trying things that he is already successful in! It is time to step out of your brother's shadow and do something you enjoy. Something so far from what he would do, so that you can gauge your own success in it rather than in following in his 'big' footsteps. What do you like to do? Everyone is good at something. Think of how you pass your day. Do you go to work? Do you draw to pass the time? Find out what you do to relax and then build on that.

I can't draw hehe but my brother can so I avoided that area. I'm only good in reading books, enjoy writing on mylot to excel my writing, and study my brother's strategies on how he carries himself when faced on that situation. I'm just really curious on how natural his brain works. But I guess you're right, I have to step out of his shadow...

I agree with what rewardsinlife has said, but have another thought as well. People tend to be good at things that really interest them - and its very unlikely that you and your brother are interested in exactly the same things. You say you can't draw, but take a look at the most successful artists - a lot of them can't either - they are just creative, or see life in a diferent way. Anyway, I bet you'd be good at something you haven't even considered yet.

Thank you for the concern. It is much appreciated; I should really try to discover myself while i'm still young. hehe gotta find ways how to start one :)

I am sure you also has some qualities that your brother does not have. Just continue looking for it. Find which activity you excel most. Or find you interest be try to be the best in that field. Good luck!
