Before Facebook, there was Friendster :)

Just a random thought. Before the world got addicted with facebook, there was friendster. Where you are limited to posting pictures, adding friends, creating your profile and posting testimonials (Comments). I guess I just want to pay tribute to the social networking site I once loved. How about you, what are the good things that you can remember about friendster?

Damn right! It's the first social networking site I've used then myspace but didn't really give my full attention to it. What I love about FS is the ability for us to change our background features (could be anime, emo, sporty, etc). I also get so many requests from my friends who wanted to have their profile changed since I was the one who knows how to do it. Adding music playlist on my profile was one of my fave as I love listening to the music. Most of the time, I only log on to listen to my fave music. The testimonials are the funniest feature they added on fs. Your friends can say anything they want about you and sometimes share your darkest secrets to anyone LOL. -sigh- now fs is just a game website mostly for kids. I wonder why they didn't try to beat fb as they are one of the pioneers in social networking. Why they let this happen to their website? I've got so many good memories on fs, and they will stay with me forever! Cheers to FS!

Finally I was waiting for someone who have genuinely loved FS. Thank you for sharing your great experience hehehe. Yeah I remembered having different profile background every week with FS. I remembered one classmate who sent me a message on FS, confessing his undying admiration for me which was really corny and at that time I can't help but avoid him. But it's one of those messages that you want to keep for good times sake, I can't retrieve it now! LOL. The most dreaded testimonials, it was so formal! It was like, your friends are introducing you to the whole world, using adjectives that you need to check on the dictionary LOL. I miss FS.

You're most welcome. Thank God I found your post as well. So I can show the world how great FS was before FB came. Too bad you weren't able to save that message from someone who admires you. You're right, it's a message you want to keep for good times sake. You can even show that to your children that when you were young, you got a love letter or something from someone who adores you ^^ hehehe.. Haha yea, some testimonials were formal but most of my friends posted funny testimonials about me LOL. I do hope someone from FS is reading our post and bring back the FS that we used to love. And hopefully even better than before ^^.

That's a good idea! Let's make this as our first step in starting the "Bring FS Back" campaign. I'm sure there are people out there, who feels the same way. Great to hear that your friends were all casual and funny with their testimonials. Are you able to view your old account? because I can't. For some reason, all I can find are games.

Friendster was at its prime, and we have to admit it is probably the mother of social networking sites, right? if it was not for this site, i guess there won't even be something to think about like friendster or twitter right now without friendster. I personally think that facebook and twitter were just the evolved and improved versions of the friendster. :D

You are absolutely right. It's so sad that the kids of Facebook and twitter generation don't even know what Friendster is. How come it never competed with those two top sites now?

Never heard of friendster actually. Seems like facebook has been around forever! From what you've said it was'nt as interactive as facebook-it was a start I guess!

LOL yeah, it's actually where Mark Zuckerberg got his idea about Facebook. I tried to visit my old account with Friendster, the settings are now different but it's still not as good as the new social networking sites. I have myspace before that too, it still a good site to visit. Yeah I guess the people who started friendster are now cringing, looking at the progress of other sites. Or they may be working for Zuckerberg now.

I loved their Testimonials feature. I also liked how it was so easy to find old classmates with that site as it seemed every one who knows how to use a computer would have a Friendster account.

Yeah, I like that a lot too. Testimonials that you get from your friends back then is one of a kind, they really spend time thinking on what to write on. It was like half of your childhood life is mentioned and it's kind of semi-formal LOL. Yeah it's either counterstrike or friendster ahahahaha.

I once became a member of friendster but at those time, i am not really fond of social networking really. Sometimes, when i visit then my friendster, all i do is to add friend post picture comments to my profile, visit other profile, thats it. However, when facebooks comes its way, when it was introduce to me, i found it first boring however as many users registered i got to be with facebook then i abandoned my friendster account. Just to compare, i found it now that friendster is more boring than facebook. Because, friendster has only limited features then. And now, actually, i do not have any news to friendster.

LOL yeah, were limited to just doing several things on FS but it was fascinating at that time. When FB became more popular, there was this prank letter which circulated in the web of FB sending FS a note. What was written there was funny.
