Dogs versus snakes

A friend of mine, Swirlz ( yes my best friend mylotter too) texted me a couple of days ago saying she is currently looking outside the window and she saw her pet dog, a yorkie fighting with a snake! Her pet dog, Dookie saw a cobra, got aggressive as it came inside their house, i believe the fight happened outside the house near the kitchen.. the dog got defensive and the snake also got defensive. I really didn't how the fight went as she texted me Thank God Dookie wasn't hurt or bitten by the cobra. The cobra was so defensive it even got into its lethal position, the snake like stood up but the dog was able to bit the snake... the after math was, the snake died ( phew ) as the snake was around more than 1 meter long! Plus there were eggs around..the snake might be pregnant too.. i am not a lover of snakes really, creepy creatures but glad it died as my friend lives with just her niece, a 3rd grader, her father who was a stroke victim and cannot fully function and her mother..so between them and the snake, it would be dangerous having it around the house.. Glad the hero was fine, Dookie! I always heard stories of snakes verses cats but never of a dog..

Oh, I'm glad that Dookie wasn't bitten by the cobra. I think you should call Animal rescue or something to get there and capture the cobra (and its offspring, if they exist) and to take them away from the populated areas. I don't like snakes too much but I don't think they should be killed either. They could live in a place where they can't disturb people but somebody has to take them there. Until then, I would keep Dookie inside or I wouldn't let him un-supervised. You don't know if he can have the same luck twice.

We do not have any animal rescue squad here... too bad. maybe the police will suffice?

I don't know if they would do such a job. I think they have to be professionals to cope with a poisonous snake. We don't have animal rescue here either. I don't know what could you do in this case. Aren't you afraid the meeting could repeat? I couldn't sleep with this fear in my mind.

hi jazel Quite scary - reading about snakes around the house with a 3rd grader kid. Adjacent to our house there is an open area which has several mongoose. and because of them, there are no snakes around (luckily). I am surprised to read about the fight about the dog and the snake as this is quite uncommon. Though I did listen to stories from my late granny where she mentioned one such incident but I never believed that to be true. Personally, I did have only one pet dog but during the time she was alive, I never found any snake... good for both of us, I guess.

hi Sids, well you see their area is also that grassy so i guess there are really snakes where they live. I have seen on Natgeo that there are quite some poisonous snakes in India, like that of the black Mumba right or those cobra that snakes charmer hunt..that is pretty scary. My friend was glad that her dog was not hurt or else she would be really upset as i know she loves the dog very much that is why the dog also reciprocated that love.

oh that happened here too a long time ago. a snake came inside the house and our dog was trying to fight it while my brothers were trying to hit it with a stick and whatever they can see LOL. the snake was fighting back and we were so scared it might bite out dog but good thing it did not get the chance. our dog bit it in the tail and my brother hot it in the head. i hope this never happens again, it is really scary because that is really dangerous and we have babies and kids here in the house.
