How dare you have a life ....

Australia

.... outside MyLot? Here we are, Saturday afternoon in Australia, Friday night in the US, and for the next 48 hours MyLot will be like a mausoleum. Two hours between posts on my interests list, not a friend in sight, no responses to my admittedly not very popular serious discussions. It's so damn frustrating. I suppose they're all out having fun, going places, seeing people, doing things. How dare they! Actually, since I came back from a longish break I've noticed that the Lot seems mighty empty. I wonder how many of that 241,212 population are actually active. It seems like about 5% even on the "busy" days, and on weekends maybe 1% or less. Have you got a busy life outside MyLot? I do, my greyhound betting, but it also involves the computer so jumping across to the Lot every now and then is a nice break. But what about all you others? Lash

No, I do not have a life, but every once in a while I like to fake it and pretend that I do to make myself feel better. Why won't you allow me to indulge in that fantasy and let me feel better about myself? Then again, I guess you are right that it is a pretty lame fantasy, so perhaps I will try for something a little more believable ... like that I am an alien reptilian disguised as the queen of England!

Every one is pretending to have a grand life outside of myLot, purple being the only person here who has humbly admitted!.

@purplealabaster: Reptilian aliens are everywhere ; talking petunias are less common. @grandpa_lash: Many lotters are here during their working hours. Wasted time on the net costs billions to companies, and myLot is part of a large conspiracy responsible for the economic crisis. I think I will have a drink with a reptilian alien now :)

Er, actually allknowing, I think I have admitted to having little life out of MyLot, which is why I get troubled when there's nobody to talk to waaah. Lash

myLot is active 24 hours of the day. All what you need to do is say what you want to say as responses to topics of your choice and when your friends reappear they will comment on your responses. And likewise your topics will be responded to in a similar manner. There have been responses to topics here which are four years or older so what's the deal waiting for a week end to pass before your friends make their appearance. We all have a life outside of myLot doing things that interest us. I love gardening, entertaining and other activities that are needed for my survival.

This was meant as a light-hearted grumble because I'm not good with patience , and is as much about the actual activity level on the Lot. But I hate to disappoint you, I'll get serious. I agree with Lamb's reply below, and whilst mindless drivel is something all of us should occasionally partake in, as a steady diet it would be terminal for me, and maybe that's why so many of the people Lamb and I consider interesting have left the site. I am lucky to get to post on much more than 1 out of fifteen or twenty discussions I read, sometimes far less even than that, and while I don't begrudge the rest their fun I really would jump for joy if another fifty like Lamb and me were to appear. When I get too frustrated with the situation I start posting sarcastic responses, which is possibly childish of me but I don't care. As it is, most of the time I spend here is wasted, and it's only the fact that I am a pensioner and partially disabled into the bargain that makes it possible for me to spend that time. Lash

I have yet to get used to your dawning a new 'avatar' an avatar of fun and frolic. May be after a few attempts I will accept you as someone who posts silly posts. I reserve my comments about there being less meaty topics here nowadays. If January has satisfied you then please give him the BR tag

The time zone makes it pretty slow for me all the time, but the weekends are incredibly slow. Lash

Maybe you should stay up all night so you are up when there´s more people here. I´m in the southern hemisphere as you are, but on the other side. I don´t know about percentages here, but I can talk with lots of friends. Many times I have to wait hours for the response, but I don´t mind.

I'm 67 and I need my beauty sleep. It's always slow for me because of the time zone, I accept that. But weekends are ghastly slow because there are many fewer people here, at least in my interest list. And I should point out that I have very carefully been through the potential interests, and there is nothing that would ever drag me into most of them, my peculiarity, so I guess I'm stuck with the situation. Doesn't mean I can't have a lighthearted grumble about it Lash

Maybe you should post a list of interests and promote them. I am younger than you (will be 67 in June) so I don´t need the beauty sleep so much. Specially now that my hair is slowly emerging after a chemo. I am thinking of beauty in terms of far future but have the contradiction that now I have to make short term plans (just in case). If you are interested, I like to read, cook, garden, sing in the shower, watch CSIs reruns and write in my native language (Spanish). Cheer up! Life is beautiful!

Shhh. Don't tell anyone here that I actually have a life! It is a bit quieter here these days isn't it. I guess I am partly to blame for that as I am too busy doing other things most of the time. I spend a lot of time on the computer for work that I am well and truly over it by the end of the day when I used to post a lot and weekends, well some days I do not even turn it on! That was unheard of from me a while back! Had a busy day today. Spent the whole morning and early arvo at a short acting course. Then late arvo had to drop my wife off at the airport as she has gone to Melbourne for three nights. In between, went to the shops, the only reason I turned my computer on was because I had something for sale on Ebay and the listing finished while I was out so I had to deal with that. Otherwise I would not be here now either.

It clearly maes sense that there would be fewer here on a weekend, and this was a realtively light-hearted discussion. More to the point is the actual size of the MyLot population, but I won't get into that in case it's against the guidelines. Lash

MyLot is not that empty. I'm pretty much sure there are people here who are constantly active. And yes, I have a busy life outside myLot. I have my family with me, and my friends. Furthermore, I don't think being in front of the computer for the whole day is not good for your health. You need to take a break once in a while. Have a nice day, Lash.

Ah, you mean like looking after my one acre of gardens, walking my dogs, doing most of the shopping because my partner is not well, reading, watching TV, and so forth. Yes, it's obvious I need a break. And in the parts of the Lot that I inhabit, it is like a Ghost town. Lash

Hi Granpa, Well, I wouldn't say that I'm out have the time of my life. I work a lot on the weekends. From Thurday through Sunday, I usually put in 10 hour days on 2nd shift. This week I am doing 12 hour shifts so honestly...I'm not going to be on here a lot this weekend. I do have Monday and Tuesday and WEds. off but my 18 yr old is still a senior and doesn't drive yet so I do run her to school etc. I I have tons of errands to do on those days and I watch my little grandson each afternoon from about 2:30 until 9pm. He's 14 months old so sitting on the computer much isn't really an option...depends on his little mood.

One of the reasons why I am less active here is because of the dearth of respondents or decent discussions - arrogant of me I know! When I am not here I am the Head Guide at a famous British Cathedral and also administer some alms houses - charitable sheltered accommodation for those in need. Currently I am concentrating on recovering from the removal of a cancerous tumour from my left kidney. Not a lot of fun but it certainly helps use up my energy reserves and at least I am still alive. Better than the alternative which was a very real possibility.

Well, I think you know how I feel about decent discussions, which is why I really miss the friends like you who have become less prolific. I seem to live in a cyber world filled with shallowness and inanity, which have their place (see Panda Spanking), but not as a steady diet. Lash

Oh my Lash...things have been crazy busy for me lately. I am usually able to manage coming on at least once a day, but for quite some time now, barely once every two or three. I can't say that I have ever been quite so busy. I have depended on myLot for my "me time" but lately, there hasn't been any. Maybe soon things will relax a bit.

Hi grandpa_lash! Well, the kids happen to be watching a Wiggles video (speaking of Australia) - and hubby is taking a nap after a day of working on a weekend day - I am in the middle of starting our packing to move . . . I thought I'd sneak away to take a break and get on myLot for a few minutes! Sometimes I can make it here on a weekend if we are all at home, but not for too long. We are often we are out with the kids, so yes, we do have a life - hee hee. But during the week, my daughter is in school and my son will be at home napping for a bit - so THEN I have some time to chat away on myLot (when I SHOULD be doing other things of course!). If I'm really up to it, I will wake up in the middle of the night and get online (but lately I've been mostly too pooped!). But - it's good to have a life outside of myLot . . . if it weren't for that, we couldn't up with things to discuss here, right? - hee hee!! I'm sure your friends and myLot peeps will be back on myLot soon enough. And remember, when you are not able to get on myLot, I'm sure people will be wondering where you are! Greyhound betting - interesting! Honestly, I've only seen that in old cartoons - hee hee!!

It's quite popular here, also in Ireland, New Zealand, and the US. We have 38 tracks I can bet on over the course of a week (maybe up to 250+ suitable races a week), and there are probably as many more which don't get considered by the betting outlets. We intend to buy a greyhound pup when we finally sell our house and move to somewhere more congenial, and that will be a thrill. The ones that make it to the racetrack clearly adore the racing and are inherently competitive, just like horses. Beautiful dogs, and they make great pets after they retire, with a little specialist retraining. Lash

I don't know if they all go out, I seldom do. Way to busy with.. well what actually? Learning Hungarian language, cleaning up (next week 2 big trees will be finally chopped down at the end of my garden plus one week later I will finally have a bedroom made on the ceiling). Busy with taking kids to school, pick them up (last week everybody seemed to be at my place). I still have my shelter with predators I have to take care of. I was visiting (at night) a meeting for foster parents, helping a friend with moving out and making a scedule for the art classes I will give from May 8th on. In between I try to plan the summer vacation I will spend with an other friend and her 7 kids and 3 grandchildren (plus mine). We decided to travel to Hungary and want to visit this time other European countries as well. Two evenings a night I spend with my son in the swimming pool (he started training competition swimming), at Saturdays I go with my daughter to scouting (I am a scout leader) and early at Sunday morning she has her swimming class. So at the end of the day I am happy I can go to bed, sleep like a rock, unless I wake up after 2-3 hours (with or without pain). So no time (or energy) to go out at all, you are not the only one who is at home :-D Enjoy your weekend.

Sorry, I didn't know you were feeling lonesome. I was responding to others. Had I known about you, I would have jumped to your space and chatted with you all night. Like you had dog racing, I had IPL matches to watch. Despite the attraction of IPL, I would have come to your space. Believe you me. Lots of Aussies are playing in the IPL and creating mayhem. How come you guys are so good in cricket? Is it due to the milk the Australian cows produce? Here, I've given you a starting point to rave, rant, ramble or babble as you like. I'm waiting for your response.

Who has a life. I used to spend a lot of time here but my interest has waned over the years and now I just pop in every few days instead of every day. Sometimes I just forget that mylot is here or I get too busy to respond to discussions and often I find it hard to find topics of interest. I hardly ever write dicussions as I have had very little success with them. It could be the time zone since any discussion we write is long buried by the time the other half of the world wakes up. Hmmm have to go and feed the chickens.
