Dreams and Dreaming

I had this talk with my brother awhile back about his dream. He says he was able to control his dream and it ended on how he wanted it to be. I did not believe him because I know and based on my experience, I cannot control any of my dreams. He says you just have to acknowledge that this is just a dream and then, you can control it. It's rather weird to me. So far, I wasn't able to control any of my dreams ever since he told me his experience. How about you? Do you believe that we can control our dreams?

Sometime dream is all about what we have thinking in real life. Some people could control it, like a pathetic people will always try to be a hero on their dreams.

Instead of being a hero, why not you flying around the world...that is flying around your dream world? Now that is more fun than killing witches, vampires, zombies and stuff that heroes do.

But my brother is not a pathetic person. I think it's even amazing that he can control his dream, it's like being powerful in your subconscious mind. Thank you for your response though, devilova. I appreciate it. Have a nice day!

I believe that dreams are just a manifestation of whatever we think deep down in our heart and mind. for example if I go to bed fearing something, I would most probably end up dreaming about terrifying things. So I guess, you can control what you dream about, to a great extent, if you apply yourself to it. Why dont you just give it a shot?

I tried what you mean but man is that not true to me. There are times that I really wish to dream horrific things that before I go to sleep I think of monsters and stuff but what I got was a playground. Or a church where there's a cute little gothic doll sitting in a rocking chair--yeah it's weird but that's not horrific at all. I guess my dreams had it's own plans but anyways, what can I do about it? I just thought that I'd be the King Kong there and blew the wonderlalaland off the planet and there came the rise of the apes. :(

I too have experienced what you said plenty of times. I think I have controlled a few of my dreams but sometimes there are dreams that when I wake up, I know I was dreaming but do not remember what it was. Also I've had dreams where I was dreaming within a dreaming and when I woke up in that dream, I woke up forreal. One time is was sort of a nightmare and at first I wasn't sure if I was actually awake or not.

Hi nethraram! I have experienced what you have just said. Dreaming about something that we have thought deeply for the day. It surprises yet amazes me how our mind interprets it as a dream. Maybe I'll try controlling my dream tonight.

Yes we can control our dream. I can do that too. But I need to know that i am in my dream to do the things i want to do. Unfortunately we do not know that all the time so it happens sometimes only.

You can do it too? That's amazing! Yeah, first we have to acknowledge that we are in our dreams before we can control it. It's really a difficult task. Thank you for your response, aayushman.

I believe that dreams are thoughts that are deeply inculcated in our unconscious thoughts. But, they are somehow connected to the events and issues that we are going currently through. Science have been trying to explain the mystery of dreams but they can only explain up to how they can test it. I haven't tried controlling my dreams, but I tried to force myself to wake up from a dream. I tried counting like "okay, wake up in 1, 2, 3, WAKE UP!" and I did wake up. If only I can control my dreams, I'll gather all my crushes and spend a day with them, haha LOL.

Why not try to do it something like this--in order to gather your crushes in one place--if you notice that you're dreaming, think of your crushes one by one? They'll eventually turn up if you're thinking/dreaming about them...because they're all in your head. Dreams is just a parallel of your own reality anyway. Anything is possible there...probably.

Hi sinfulrose and kat! I both like your responses. Yours, kat, is incredible. It's still controlling, but it is in waking up. I'd also like to dream about my crushes. I would have a wonderful morning after that. And agree with you, sinfulrose. Dreams are indeed a parallel of our own reality.

I doubt that we can control our dreams. However, we can control the types of dreams we want to see. This we can do by thinking positive thoughts only. According to me, negative thinking or negative thoughts provide room for bad dreams and they make us scary. So it is better if we avoid thinking negatively.

Yeah I agree with you. If we think about something negative for the whole day, we tend to dream about it. We would be scared, even though it was mainly our fault for such an action. Thank you for your insight, malasrivastava!

I can't like if i fall asleep thinking about a certin person or event i will sometimes dream about it but, not always and sometimes my dreams are completey random and sometimes there not. I started writing because i had a dream about it once it was really strange but i had this strong feeling that i could be a great writer.

For me also dreams come on random and some days there are dreams and some days there are not. I think there is something called dreaming that we do dream of things we like and want in our life.

I also think we cannot control our dreams in our lives. I think if we are wake most probably we can dream on things that we like and want can control the dreams to the things we want. I do not think we can control our dreams when we are sleep. I think is always great to dream because dreams helps us to make things happen in our life.

Dream control is almost always associated with lucid dreaming. A lucid dream is a dream, basically what your brother said, a dream where you know you're dreaming. Personally, I've had loads of lucid dreams but dream control itself does not come easy to me. I've rarely had a dream go entirely the way that I wanted it to. I appear to be in the minority though, as I frequent lucid dreaming forums and read lots about lucid dreaming... most other people seem to experience much more dream control than I do. It's still fun to know you're dreaming. I like exploring the dreamscape, and talking to my dream characters. I usually remember lucid dreams in greater detail than just regular dreams.

That's a juicy information you got there. Maybe I should read more on about this lucid dreaming. Thank you for such a wonderful response!

If you mean dream as in sleeping then dream, yes, you can indeed control things around. And it is true also that you will have to acknowledge that you're only dreaming in order to be able to control your dream. I have been, in many times than I can count, been dreaming and controlling whatever it is I wish to do there. Sometimes I even fix my problems there such as my programming assignments and cramming in exams. Believe me when I say, your mind is a lot more advanced and more powerful than our latest super computers...so making it your own personal PS2/PSP is a piece of cake. Though there are dreams that seemed to be uncontrollable, there are dreams too that you can just play around in. Try to enjoy yourself in your dreams and I got to tell you, waking up from those is one of the best things in life I get to experience.

Oh, our minds are powerful enough already. If you have been studying history, you would notice that most people in the past can remember words spoken, faces and events in accurate detail compared to people nowadays. Simply put, we just forgot how to use these skills because we've become dependent our papers and pen and computers and gadgets. It's as they say, all of us have photographic memory. Most of us just don't have the film.

Yeah, I do believe in that! Our mind is so powerful and advanced that the scientists can't stop studying it. Plus, it's so mysterious. I think our mind has some secret power in it that we have to know and to unleash soon enough. That would be incredible.

There are just so many schools of thought of dreams out there and really a lot of them seem rather fascinating. As for the school of thought that you can control your dreams, I find that theory to be very fascinating in a number of ways. But I think that it is the perception that we can control them but really if you are truthfully out of it, dreams tend to go in some strange directions. And really if you think that dreams are what you are thinking about, then in some way, yes you are controlling them to an extent. Only to a slight extent but there is some level of control that you have in the sense that dreams are what you are thinking about. Still it is really not a direct control. So I don't think that the control is one hundred percent assured but it is something to think about.

I don't know if he really can do that. I can't control my dreams and most of the time I don't remember the whole picture of what I have dreamed of only a part of it. I guess dreams are products of our imaginations or maybe our subconscious mind.

Yeah, I'm just wondering if what we can not do in actual life maybe it's possible in dreams. Or through dreams we can get motivation to actually do it in real situation. It could be possible.

Well, he did tell me. It's all up to him if he lied to me about that. And yes, dreams are a product of our imagination and our subconscious mind. Amazing, isn't it?

i don't think so because no matter how hard i will be thinking about it, it wouldn't end the way i wanted it to be. how i wish though that i can do that.

he probably has some powers LOL.. i had experiences where i would wake up from a very nice dream and then i would just think about it and then it would just continue when i go back to sleep but i think that happens because we think hard about it and they said, they are just products of of subconscious that's why we can dream about it.

Yeah. It has been countless times that I wondered if my dream was a dream or a reality. Nevertheless, I couldn't really control how it'll end up.

I don't believe that we can control our dreams.sometimes we are part of our dreams and sometimes we dreamt other people.Base on my experience when I'm having a dream,i'm just going with the flow and waiting what will happen next.

We're on the same page. I've never controlled my dreams ever since, and I just follow with it. I think it would be amazing if we could do that.
