Funny Family Story

This past Easter my brother visited his girlfriends family, they all went up to her grandmothers house for dinner. My brother got his plate and decided that after he finished that he would have a salad, because he ran out of room on his plate. Turns out he lucked out on it because his girlfriends dad had salad first and was asking everyone if the salad dressing tasted funny to them. His wife told him it was probably because it was lite dressing and to just eat it. Well as she examined the bottle further she discovered that the dressing had expired in 2001!!! The poor guy, he immediately got up ran to the restroom and lost all his supper. Apparently it grossed him out so bad he was unable to eat the rest of the day and was saying he wouldn't spend another holiday there again. I know it's kind of sick humor but we couldn't stop laughing about this when my brother told us about it! And be sure that when we have salad we are checking the dates on the bottles from now on :D What funny family story do you have?

This is really funny but it was not easy for the poor guy! That's why I don't use salad dressing in bottles and stuff. I put vinegar, olive oil, yogourt or other products which seem real, lol!

We still use salad dressing, in fact just a few nights ago we had salad and every one of us was checking the date on it haha. I think what really makes it funny is that he never even really wanted to go to up there for the dinner in the first place but oh well, I doubt he will be going back any time soon holiday or not! Thanks for the response fannitia:)

Oh, that is funny! I hope it was just recently opened and not open in the refrigerator all that time! I would probably lose my appetite for awhile, too. I have a somewhat similar story, that happened about 5 years ago or so, might have even been at Easter also. We were eating dinner at my aunt's house and there were several desserts as everyone brings food. My aunt made peach crisp, probably from peaches that were either home-frozen or home-canned. The dessert itself might have even been previously made and frozen and thawed for the dinner, as it looked rather soggy and not particularly crispy! No one had taken any, so, even though it looked funny, I thought peach crisp sounded good, and took some. I took one bite, and I am not joking, it tasted like vomit! Now, my aunt is kind of funny about her entertaining. She tries to be Martha Stewart, but she really isn't a very good hostess. She tends to go off on people if things aren't going according to her perception of what a particular event should be. She also, although she has plenty of money, tends to make a big deal about wasting food. So, in order to avoid a potential scene in case she saw me in the kitchen throwing away probably 10 cents worth of dessert (and hundreds of dollars worth of her pride, probably) I took the first opportunity to sneak to the bathroom and flush it down the toilet. Then I quietly warned a couple of other family members about how I thought it tasted, and either word got around, or no one else thought it looked good enough to take any, because the rest sat untouched. She did notice later and commented that no one was eating it. I just played dumb, I wasn't going to tell her what I thought of it for anything.

Wow that's a great story! I don't blame you for flushing it down the toilet haha. I can't really say I can relate to someone not wanting us to throw away somthing that didn't work out. My family is more like here taste this, then based on that we either keep or toss it. We are pretty honest about stuff like that, it's too bad you couldn't just take the dessert and tell her that it wasn't good and throw it away. Thanks for your response rapunzelcat!

Well i dont really have any funny stories to tell but yours is pretty good and i hope he didnt get sick from eating the dressing. I hope that was in the pantry or something and not bought at the store recently becasue if it was on shelves at a store that is disgusting and i probably wouldnt go back to buy anything from there again, but thats just me. I do have a sister in law that is kind of annoying but at the same time its pretty funny too. She hates all of my brothers family and more. We hae a tight nit family and all get along just fine most of the time and are always together doing things. She says she doesnt like my boyfriend so she delets all of us from her life and her facebook page because we all have pictures of him on our pages. She will call us names behind our backs and then act all nice and fake to our faces which i cant stand at all. Hopefully they get divorced and dont live a long life together.

It was out of a pantry, I don't think the grandma is very good at rotating out her food haha. He was ok by the end of the day though, thanks! I have a family member that is like your sister in law. Luckily for me we don't have to see her much because instead of staying active members in the family my uncle and her kind of dissappeared out of the family picture long ago. Hope all works out for you and your brother:) Thanks for the reply lologirl2021!

That is too bad for that guy. He should trust his instincts, and if it tasted bad should have just left it one the plate rather than eating it. As humans, we usually have a very primitive instinct within us to tell us when something is not good to eat. Should have trusted it. No one else but him ate the salad? Or did others get sick later?

The salad dressing it self didn't make him sick in the way of it being old, just the thought of it being that old made him gag, and then of course lose his dinner. Others had it as well they just stopped eating it and didn't get sick from it as far as I know. I agree he should have just stopped eating it like you said our bodies have a funny way of telling us when something isn't right haha. Thanks for the response rewardsinlife:)
