Living in a blue/red state?

This past election, I was one of the voters that turned my state from red to blue, for the first time since the JFK election. Needless to say, it definitely made me feel like my vote counted. Regardless of your politics, does your state vote the same way you do? What does this make you feel about your home state and its people?

It just ticks me off that there is not a "purple" state. Most of us ride the fence between parties but collectively we add up to either red or blue, giving politicians an unrealistic view of their "mandated cry from the people". If we think of swing states as purple, we would see there is no overwhelming support for either party and that is more realistic. I know that doesn't really answer most of the question, but I've bee gone awhile and I feel like ranting! The Rat is back!

It's an interesting concept. The electoral system can be very frustrating; in some ways, it seems like the votes of Republicans in a blue state or Democrats in a red state don't really matter, let alone the independents. But I guess it turns it into a more local debate. I dunno.

It seems I am in the majority of the votes since all my favoured candidates won the last election. But for me, even if my candidate didn’t win, I would still give support to whomever won. It is their chance to make a positive outcome out of our government and the fact that they won means that they have the right to their position and needs to be respected.

My state is mostly red except for the capital city and other city dwellers.. We often fee as though we ave a state within a state.. This last year has been a lot of tantrum throwing and wasting of taxpayer money through the tantrums!
