Hello there friends. I am a student and I am planning to work part time only. What can you suggest, should I go for it? My family is not rich and the money that I will get part time will surely help my education. But I fear that working along with studying with have some negative effect in my academic performance since my there will be less time for reading and reviewing lessons.

You should go for it. Working is definitely do-able when in college. I sort of envy the people who don't have to work while in college, but it's not really realistic - we have to have SOME kind of money coming in, you know? If you are just working part-time you shouldn't have a problem getting your work done. Try just starting out 15-20 hours a week and then start working a little more once you learn the "balancing act" of working and going to school. Don't forget that in securing a good job - experience is almost just as important as education! It's a team effort! Best of luck to you!

Work could never hurt us - it only gives us lessons. I"m also a working student and never had any problems about it. Still, there are a couple things to be taken into consideration before starting to work: 1)Be responsible, 2)Always remember that the school comes first, work second, 3)Manage your time with your responsibilities.

maybe you should ask some of your friends if you have working student friends, if the work is hard and how it affected their studies. It will look good on your transcript though, having working experience. GOod luck

You need to make sure you can do both of it. Plan it according your timetable. If you find yourself still can focus on your study and at the same time have part time job- if you could do it then I am sure you will have no problem with it. At least the money you earn will help you to pay for your study. Good luck with it!

Ok, first thing, your notes will inevitably go down, no matter how much try to avoid it. I myself, was a working student during some time in my life, and I can tell you there were sometimes in which I couldn't believe time went that fast, it's really frustrating, because your life quality will really decrease. If you really really need the money, then you should try to look for paid part time activities, sometimes you could hit upon an offer in your University, like working on the library or cafeteria, where you can complete your scoolwork during low activity spans.

go for it. but make sure you can balance everything, your work and your study. i have a cousin who is a working student before. her part time job really helped her. she was able to finish her college because of her part time job. and now she's one of the manager of the past-food she was working before, when she was a student.

When I was a student in the university, I worked as a tutor for a high school boy as my part time job. It was good since the time would not be a lot. And the paid was well. It was not a difficult part time job, too. Since I wanted to be a friend with my student:) I love China

I think you should check your schedule first to make sure that your part-time job will not affect your study. In my opinion, the main work for a student is learning knowledge, if you sacrifice your study to your part-time job, the job is meaningless to you. Then try to find a safe job and try to learn something from it not just only for money. Try to keep a good relationship with your co-worker who will help you a lot in the future.

if your parents can still support you then i suggest you concentrate with your studies first. instead of having a part time work why not look for on the job training jobs this summer and use the money you earn from that for a small business. it is really hard to be a part time student and it is a challenge for you. if you really need to as in you don't have any money for your tuition or allowance then go for it. your urge to finish your studies will be your driving force so you can do it. good luck to you.

It's great that you think about doing this as an act of independence. Start small, maybe work 1 day part-time for a month and spend the rest on your books. See if it affects your studies negatively. If it doesn't, you can consider moving up to 2 days, and so forth. One word of caution: when you start working, you might get away thinking it is easy to make money, so why study so hard in the first place. Don't have that kind of thinking. Otherwise the part-time work will backfire. If you are a student, your full time work is study, and study well. There is a time for real world work with real world pay. Studies must still come first in the meantime. Find work that is NOT too physically taxing so you have energy to revise and do homework when you come back from work. What do you study? If you have questions, why not post and ask for help (if it is allowed)?

Your joining the workforce either on part time or full time will have a significant impact on your studies ( education ) as you will not have sufficient time to read and even rest. The best would have been to face education, get graduated out of school and then look for work to engage yourself. Even those who have graduated before you are still struggling to find work let along you who still in school.

You can do both work well, don't worry too much. Studying and working is really good for student, you can learn how to manage your time efficiently as well as living skills. However you should put study as the priority, you can do a part time job in restaurants, shops, etc...It is hard for you to do both works, but you will be so happy with money that you can earn for your study. Good luck!

I am in the same boat as you, a student wondering if I should take a part-time job. My advice is to see what you are personally comfortable with. If you want to work, then work! However, if you do, I think the best thing that you can do as a student is find an employer that is flexible with your student schedule. After all, students need time to study, attend lectures, and take exams. If you can find a job where you can be comfortable working and earning money for a few hours, but still have time to do well academically, then by all means, work part time!

I worked in high school. I worked part time at a grocery store about 20 to 25 hours a week and I seemed to have enough time to still study.

I would recommend working at least part time while you are going to college but it will take a lot of focus, drive, and hard work to be able to keep up with your classes as well. I've been working my way through college and have paid all of my tuition out of pocket so far so that way I don't have any student loans that are putting me into debt. I'm only going to community college right now but I plan to move onto a nicer college in the real near future. Working while going to college allows me to get some savings going for when I move and I'll also need to get myself ready for having to work and go to college when I move on to my next one. When your family doesn't have a whole lot of money than you have to work a little harder to get to where you want to be. The bright side of this though is you don't take anything for granted and you get to be more focused on your work because usually the jobs you can get aren't enjoyable and don't pay very much. My current job I don't really like but it gives me a lot of motivation to do the best I can in college because I want to be able to find a job that I actually enjoy.

Welcome to Mylot Lauren. Just make sure that if you do take a job, you would be able to balance it. I have a friend who was so much into his job back in college. He was so happy because he was earning so much such that he really skipped college and just focus on his job. Year passed, he saw his classmates all working while he... he still kept the same old job... despite his years, no promotions were made either because he is an undergrad.

When I was in college I was working whilst studying. It was toughed but studying abroad need a lot of effort to be able to continue my studies. But in the other hand it was great I don't have to asked my family supports and no one could be bothered. I took a part time job 4 hours everyday and go straight to school.Through God's help I managed to finished my course. And it doesn't affect my academic performance at all. I've gone through hard times but when I think of what I need to attained then it worth to feel hard in just a while. I feel like I'm strong enough to bring myself to school and that my parents would be glad and proud of me someday. And so as for you... Go for it,think positively, nothing is impossible if you are willing to do and so don't forget to pray. Seek the guidance from above. Have a great day ahead!

when i was in college i really envied my friends who worked while at the same time going to school. it was like such a grown up thing to do... and surprisingly my working student friends were more serious with their studies and got remarkable grades in spite of their busy schedules. so i suggest for you to grab the opportunity if it comes your way!

Well, I think it depends on how you are as a person and student. I worked while I studied at university and it was fine, but I didn't have a lot of time for hobbies etc, that might get really boring after a while for some. But I didn't mind it. But school was always very easy for me. I think you should probably start school first, see how well you do there, and then decide. Without knowing how hard or easy school will be for you, it's really hard to say what would be the best.

There is nothing wrong of becoming a working student obviously i have lots of friend who succeeded despite having such career balancing between work and study periods is a big task perhaps as far as I can see it depends on the involved person how he will be managing it how he compromised his work with his studies.Being determined with one chosen field is worthwhile especially if you will be harvesting something fruitful out of it in the future. So just be yourself, strive hard, have faith in God,continue to work and persevere with your studies and eventually for sure you will reap the product of your double effort and can be glad of saying yes I did it.
