How can I get my sleep earlier every night?

My life is totally messed up because of improper sleep. Since two months, I am not able to sleep on time or at least by 2 am every night. This has been continuing every day and I feel drowsy the next day to office. I am not energetic and alert owing to this sleep disorder. I have tried all methods to sleep earlier but in vain. I walk for an hour everyday and in-spite of that I could not make my sleep on time. This is absolutely disgusting and spoiling my life. WHAT shall I do to overcome this issue?

I used to have insomnia back in high school and college. I couldn't sleep until about 4 AM. It sucked because I would usually doze off in class! I tried many things like drinking warm milk, soaking in the tub, soothing oils. These didn't work for me. Then I realized I normally became sleepy in history class (as most of my peers) so I tried reading history books at night and sure enough, I was sleeping in no time. I suggest, you read a book in the subject that bores you most.

Wow! That's a wonderful suggestion. For me it's chemistry book that makes me feel tired.. but I don't use it for sleep as this book causes head ache.... I prefer History, Geography and Literature books!

If you are staring at your Monitor or TV for a long time, this may happen. Avoid them for few days and tell me if you still have the disorder. Since we are watching the Monitor at a distance of less than 2 feet, there is high possibility of our eyes getting tired. I've seen this with my son. Whenever he plays for a long time on the TV / computer, he rolls on the bed for a long time without sleep.

some natural doctors would suggest to use compass and know your blood type. According to them there is a correlation with your blood type and your position in bed. For example, if you have type A, your head must be towards to north, not sure about this example. I just forgot how. Try to search on net.

That sounds interesting!! Our body has an inherent magnetic field - biomagnetism. I think this has something to do with it! I'll try to get some info about this and get back! Thanks for opening this topic

I have trouble sleeping too. I usually watch some Youtube on my Smart Phone and eventually get bored and fall asleep or play games on my phone. That's how I fall asleep within 30 minutes. Works for me daily :)

Certain tea, warm milk, and exercise are all things my mom has taught me for sleep problems. What I learned that also really helps is going to a doctor and getting prescribed Ambien. Puts you straight to sleep and well rested for the next day.

Use of such medicines is not advisable. They will cause side effects. Of course they can put you straight away into sleep. But they have hell a lot of side effects associated with them, as doctors say. It's better to go natural like green tea, warm milk and some yoga or exercise!

I agree with the suggestions above. It works for me, when I feel restless during bed time. Also, I take a hot bath to relax my nerves. When I lie down, I try to clear my mind and get my body ready to rest.

Maybe you are thinking so much before sleeping. Try to read and drink warm milk it can help. Reading can cause tiredness of the eyes that makes you sleepy.

Maybe you should tire yourself the whole day so you would be so exhausted and have no choice but to sleep soundly.. Drinking milk helps too. If nothing works, maybe you should ask the doctor for this, i am sure they can help.

I think you should go to the doctor and ask what is wrong with you- they should know... Lacking sleep is really bad since it makes you tired and your body won't function so well..

It is really terrible if you can't sleep well because for sure your body has not recuperated and have not relax yet making you not energetic and vibrant for another days work or duty ,perhaps I know how to have such feeling it is obviously bothering for sure. Maybe I would suggest try to lessen intake of caffeinated drinks since this contains stimulants making ones' own mind awake or alert somehow. How about reading some magazines or watching television before going to sleep could somehow make your eyes tired ,taking a shower maybe in order to cool ones' body especially this very time that weather is very hot maybe it can help too hopefully such above actions can eventually make you fall asleep and makes you comfortable at least.

i dont want to label u having an insomnia, but the mere fact that you have troubled sleeping is a sign. what you have to do is find yourself a time to relax have a total bed rest and have a glass of milk before tou go to bed.

Stay up for a night. Guarantee you that you'll be able to sleep on time the next. If you don't want to do that then try valerian root, melatonin.. If all else fails, drink a bottle of cough syrup.

Watching the monitor before going to bed can be a problem. It can make us feel tired, but won't let some people sleep if they want to. I have read that the bright light messes up our biological clock, so that might be a reason. I think reading would be much better. Many people say that working out in the evening helps, but actually I found the opposite, it made me tired but couldn't sleep.

I usually read a book before going to bed which always makes me get asleep or watch some live shows on the TV.Sometimes I write answers to the discussions on myLot or just browse throgh the internet. There are many ways to become fast asleep. Firts of all you have to get at ease,to become at peace with yourself and to calm down. My mother told me that you should count the sheep.First you have to get over your disappointments and frustrations.

Nice Discussion Friend. I think you cant sleep every night because of tension of your work or something else. For a good sleep you have to forget about your office have a good sleep. If you think every minute about your office, you will never get a good sleep.

Get up early in morning, take morning walk, don't take any nap during whole day, take early dinner don't over eat leave some appetite, take shower before going to bed, a warm glass of milk, lay down in your bed and start reading the most boring book that you have, this should make you sleep.
