What is the most important achievement in life?

May 2, 2012 5:37am CST
I have come across a good number of people and i have asked them the same question. All their answers seems to be material based like money, wealth, riches, fame and the rest there is. nowadays nobody seems to consider being happy and having a fufiled life as an achievenemt, Some say money can bring about happiness in life but i doubt because a lot of rich people say otherwise. To me being happy and content with what one has is the greatest achievement a man can attain, but i may be wrong, so i ask here, Mylotters What do you consider as the most important achievement in life?

for me achievement in life, is what i am now. contented and happy with my family. I do not have any materials in life, and i do not have money to buy, not even a jewelry but i am happy, and i considered it as an achievement.

no, i am not a religious person, i do not even visit church. if you want to be happy, be contented on what you have, but i am not saying that be contented on what is your income or anything, of course you have to work it hard to earn something to provide your needs and wants. i am just saying, do not ask for too much that is impossible to achieve.

may be the most important achivement is to improve yourself. for me, it is so. it is not money, fame, wealth, rich thing. money can not buy happiness, of course, they can make you happy but not me. i think that every day i should be better than i was yesterday. i try to improve. it is not only about my apperance but inside. i try not to make bad things, to be polite, always say "please" "thank you", i try to be good to people around me. ;)

That's a good one, but why do you think money can't make you happy?

Happy face - This was me a few months after becoming a Christian; and I look full of joy don't I. Photo by Jane Whitton.
When I was a young man, I dreamed of being an actor; musician; writer. I worked as an actor for many years, and received a good deal of acclaim as such, but little real success. As a singer, I've had a CD, with a Swing band, released indepndendently. And recently I had a book published. My achievements have brought me enormous satisfaction. I also gain great joy from thinking of the people I've liked and loved; they mean so much to me. There is much that brings me joy. The greatest joy for me; and the best thing that's ever happened to me is becoming a born again Christian.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that living with the same woman for almost 60 years is by far the greatest achievement possible for man-kind! That I have almost accomplished this daunting task, and brought it to a successful conclusion, brings a feeling of pride which I never expect to live down. I will be forever and ever, a very proud man!

Till now, I think entering the best high school in my town is the most important achievement in my life. The achievement helps me change my life, for it brings me many choices to get a better education and meet fine people. To my mother, she thinks that give birth to her own, that is me, it the most important achievement in her life, so that she has a close family members in her life.

for me, as a softball player the important achievement that i had was experiencing the home run. In this game only few people could do it because it is not easy to bat. At least once in my life i experience how to strive hard for my team and it paid off. I was really happy at that time because i can't also believe that i achieved the important achievement of a softball player.

Wow that's so nice, you know what a better achievement would be? To be an internationally recognised softball player, don't worry, just strive hard and put all you got in the game, with time you ll get there.

Good question, like you said, so many equate happiness with money or material belongings. I however, am not one of those. The important achievements in my life, so far, have been raising to wonderful daughters, that are independent. I showed them by doing, that they could achieve anything they wanted too. Another achievement was that for 4 years, I worked my 'dream' job, wildland firefighter for the state of Pennsylvania, and I am still doing that with a volunteer fire department. Which also showed my girls that if you want something you have to work for it, particularly if your goal involves working in a male dominated job or career, but it can be done! I have achieved having a few really great friends that will be there til the end, and would do anything for me, and I would do the same for them.

I think you're wrong when you said that nobody seems to consider being happy and having a fulfilled life as an achievement because I do think that being happy and fulfilled in my life will the most important achievement for me. I think money and other material things are just "objects" or "tools" in achieving a happy life that's why many people says that when they get rich, they'll be totally happy. In my case, I don't want to be super rich or a billionaire. I just want to have enough money to have decent and nice home for my family and also a simple car. I just want a simple life. I also want to have a career. I want to earn doing what I enjoy. I also want to get married one day. As of now, I haven't achieved any of these things yet so when I do, I will be totally happy.

Find the one who is special to you, and make him/her happy. That's the first thing that comes to my mind. All else is kinda hollow for me. Of course making them happy doesn't just mean tell them you love them. It means giving them a nice life with you. To do this you must make a lot of sacrifices, work to have an income and get a nice life together.

Some say you need money to do things, to live or to get to where you want to be so you can achieve happiness or be fulfilled. Not saying I agree with it but some people say this in discussions I’ve had with them person to person. Also I find a lot of people are resume orientated if you ask them something like that they give you a resume type answer.

I cannot forget what my professor once told our class that if we cannot think of any achievement/s in our lives, well, we could consider the very first moment when we breathe (specially when one's delivered via NSVD) as one of our greatest achievements in life. Some may say that their greatest achievements were, as you said, material based. But I would say that my professor does have a point.:)

I consider my family as my achievement in life. With all the time and things Ive shared with them, I feel that its really fulfilling for me. I also consider my studies and a gift for me and to my family.

That's brilliant, family is every thing and we really should treasureevery moment we have got to spend it them, I totally agree with you on this friend.

The most important achievement in life is the self-fulfillment. There are so many people who achieve a lot of things in life but never find the happiness that they need. That's because they put too much pressure in their life. They don't do it for themselves. They always do things to impress other people. And we all know that whatever we do, we cannot please everyone. There are many souls dying everyday due to frustrations and depressions and they need our help.
