What makes life worth living?

To some people, life is a blessing while others find life a burden. We all know that life isn't perfect and that we don't always get what we wanted. In fact, sometimes difficult moments crossed our path which makes us ask this question, "Is life all worth it?" But because I believe too that whatever difficulties we face in life, there are always some consolations that makes us enjoy our lives despite of those difficulties. So can you share what are those consolations in your own lives that makes life a pleasure for you? Those which makes life worth living...

To me life is worth living because I do believe that we are all here working out soul contracts, what some would call karma. There are certain lessons we need to learn, and to learn them we have to live through them. Also, in cases where those believes do little to comfort me (I've had quiet a few of them recently) I tell myself, I won't ever have good times, as the me I am now, unless I keep on living. The country girl band the Pistol Annies, said it the best "My life is like a lemon drop, I'm sucking on the bitter to get to the sweet part."

I can see your point that oftentimes difficulties and trials are a part of our journey that would help us grow and learn the more important lessons of life. And probably in many cases, those people who never encounter any difficulties in life became weak human beings who crumbles the moment they face real trials. But I feel that when we face those difficulties, it is still important how we face them. Some people would get angry and fight their way out of those difficulties, while others would flee as far away from it out of fear. These two are extremes, and I think facing our trials with mature spirits and being aware that they have value and take out the good out of that situation, and in your own words "My life is like a lemon drop, I'm sucking on the bitter to get to the sweet part" is true. I guess the word 'optimist' is what this message speaks about.

Yes, I guess most people have this 'escapist' tendencies and I'm no exception...lol. If only it's possible to run away from all your problems and find them solved when you get back to them. The problem is, when we don't face those problems they never get resolved and oftentimes it gets worse! Maybe if you're going through hell, it's good to keep faith that things would get better...maintain your cool head, and sooner or later the 'dark clouds' over your head would soon disappear because they can't feel comfortable in a 'calm mind' and they would rather look for troubled minds that suits them.

I agree that facing the obstacles in our lives head on is the best way to do it. Because if you run away you're moving backwards, and if you do nothing, you're just spinning your wheels. Best to keep moving forward. If you're going through hell, it's best to just keep going until you're out and then stop for a break. Although I will admit that even though I do hold these believes to be true, I have had moments where running away seemed appealing. lol.

Thanks for reinforcing that point, videnom! Yes, I agree that your belief system is mostly responsible on how you will view your own life. If we think life is a blessing and a consolation, then it becomes one no matter what difficulties you face. If we think life is a burden, then it would be a burden to you. I read somewhere telling about the phrase "You are what you think", maybe it's in Napoleon Hill's famous book "Think and Grow Rich". And if this is true, then maybe it's a whole lot better to think of things that would make us feel better about ourselves and our lives. I can imagine the genie saying "your wish is my command" and whatever you wish for yourself would come true :D

I agree with you 110%! Anyway, this reminded me of the youtube video I watched which is about the movie "The Secret" telling about the Law of Attraction in a very interesting way which explains exactly what we're talking about here. It's a 3 video movie at 30-minutes each video. I hope you take a look at it because it's really inspiring :D

Yeah, exactly. In my opinion, you are who you wanna be.You make your life worth it starting with a simple idea of how your life you wanna look like.If for you being a doctor/teacher/engineer or whatever makes your life worth it it's enough, then your mission is over.you got what you wanted.if for you its enough just being a man that recycle garbage then again its allright. Its really up to you, and you decide what things will make you happy and will make your life be worth it.

I think that it is really something that varies with a lot of people, where there are times where different things are going to make their life most enjoyable. I think that in the end, good friends, good family, just having a good network of people around us, that are there for us, when life really just really has gone mostly directly off of the rails. I think that in the end, I feel rather blessed with having a small but loyal and caring circle around me. Some people have more people, but more does not always mean better. There are actually more problems with more people right out there. Therefore, life is going to really tend to have its own difficulties and there own rather distinct problems. Just find something that you enjoy and people that you can enjoy it alongside by.

It's a good point you mentioned about relationships as more is not necessarily better. I believe that, and I believe that quality is better than quantity...the quality of people that surrounds you is much more important than their quantity. A few solid circle of people who all means you well is better than a great number of people with few of them you can't trust.

My family, especially my mom.I have a very lovable mom and that is one good reason to feel that life is worth living. She raised me with tender loving care and she always there to support me whatever I had in my life. Second is my career, a blessings from above.I love what I have now and all that I have which I consider I'm blessed with so many good things in my life. Love, affection, understanding, support from everyone around me. I'm happy with my life over happiness and trials I'm thankful about it! Life is worth living because life is wonderful.!

It seems like you're so lucky with your relationships that they became your greatest source of consolation, cloud31. If only all relationships would be like that, then life would really be much lighter and a joy to live. Anyway, good relationships with your family and loved ones should be one of the most popular reasons which makes life worthwhile. Trials and difficulties may come, but if you have people around you ready to give you support and consoling words and help you in every way they can, then your difficulties would simply fade and life becomes good again. I hope all moms would be similar to your mom, cloud31. I'm glad my mom is quite the same :)

Life is still worth living even in the midst of noise, crowded mall, very long queue of shoppers, unfriendly weather, arrogant people and so much more. I feel that I'm lucky with all these things- having a not-so-high paying job, food in the fridge, a time to sleep, a place called my home, my family and most of all a loving and supportive wife that helps me with everything. Yes, I still long for a better life but I can achieve them in time with prayers and hard work. For now, I count my blessings even how simple it is.

I feel you have such a good attitude with your life, mikyung and I think we don't need to wait for the 'big breaks' in life to start enjoying them. Let's celebrate life as it is now :D I also have dreams...even big dreams not only for myself, but especially for my loved ones, but like you I can't wait for those dreams to come true before I start being happy. Yes, now is the time to be happy...not tomorrow, not when the right moment comes, not when the money you are expecting arrives, and not when you attain the riches and success you desire comes to you. I like the words you used mikyung, "I count my blessings even how simple it is". Because of it, I know you mostly see what's good in your life :)

I really appreciate your comment. Thanks. As what your username means. For me- "Better days" will come if we work hard for it. This day will be a "Better day" if we learn how to appreciate the things that we have right now. I'm thinking of changing my username into "TodaysBetterDay"..Peace..Let us all strive to be happy

Life is a gift from God. We must treasure every moment of our life. We must live it to the fullest. Life is worth living if love is there. The family that you love, and love you too.life is worth living if we lend our hands to everyone especially to those needy people. and most of all life is worth living if God is in yours.

You mentioned here the deepest values life has to offer...family, love and God. Because of these 3, life is really worth living. Anyway, in some cases, it's not possible for one to still be with their family but at least if love and God is there, the value of living stays the same.

My home is comfortable. I love my family. I adore my pets. I live in a coastal town and it is lovely to live so close to the sea. I enjoy my hobbies like Internet, reading books. writing stories, taking my dogs out for walks, traveling to different countries, swimming and going to the spa. I am ever so keen on traveling overseas. I know life can have its challenges but I have found out it is always dark before the dawn. Things get lighter and happier like the night turning into the day. When one of my friends was sad I bought out photos to show happier times and said those would come again which they certainly did. Life is like a journey and it can get bumpy at times. I believe a day out can give enjoyment and a new perspective. Life is 100% worth living for me. Good luck.

Hi maximax8, I think you're living a wonderful life and you seem so blessed...can you adopt me? lol :D You have mentioned a lot of consoling things that most people would love to have in their lives. I for one would love to live close to the sea and travel a lot. Anyway, life is good and consolations can be present in many different forms if only we would open our eyes for them. Thanks for sharing! I hope you have more 'consolations' to come :D

Yes, I agree. I live for the happy, carefree, truly cheerful or relaxed moments of life. They can make me bare the burdens and malfortunes.

It's amazing that having a positive attitude towards like could be one of the greatest consolations ever. Basing on what you have written, I think you have lots of it doroffee. If only all people would adopt that attitude you have written down, then life would always seem worth living :)
