National Anthem for Last Full Show

I just want to know from Lotters in other countries, if they also stand up and sing their national anthem before the last full show starts in the movie house. Here in the Philippines, I think it's mandatory for all movie theaters to play the National Anthem before the last full show rolls. All viewers must stand up to pay respect. Nowadays, I see a few who would resist this practice, and would just stay on their seats while everyone else stood up to participate. Do you have this practice in your country, too?

No, that's not something that happens where I live (the United Kingdom). Actually, most people start leaving the cinema during the closing credits, which makes me laugh. There is an amateur theatre near me that I've been to a few times - they always play the national anthem at the end of their plays, but that's not a law, just their tradition. Usually I'm practically the only member of the audience who remains seated during the anthem - not through lack of patriotism, but our national anthem is "God Save the Queen" and I'm a republican.

That's right. I've nothing against the Queen personally, I just believe we're way past the time when our country should retire the monarchy and become a constitutional republic. You wouldn't want to hear my singing voice anyway. ;-)

Oh, you're lucky they don't penalize people who won't stand up for the national anthem. So, does that mean you would never sing your national anthem because you're republican?

I haven't really tried watching a full show thus i don't have any experience of it..but if i ever experience one, then maybe i'll stand up cause i really want to show my loyalty to my country and to the song that symbolizes it.. :)

I believe they also play the national anthem before the very first show starts on each cinema. Yes, we have to pay respect. Even, when you happen to drive past schools during their flag ceremony, we have to take a full stop until they finish.

Hi jureathome! By the way I have heard a very funny story about the national anthem being sang in a movie house. There was a family who went to a movie house. The father was a retired military man. Maybe he was having a nap before the last full show when all of a sudden the national anthem was played. Of course what you will hear first is the sound of drums. The father upon hearing the sound of drums woke up and grab the hands of his children and said "prepare there is war!". When they have stood up they heard "... Bayang magiliw..." and the father was back in his senses and they all joined the singing the the national anthem. Hahaha! This really happened because it was one of the sons who told me this story.

That's incredible. I bet he was so embarrassed, so with the whole family.
