For several years now, India has held the Guinness record for the largest moviegoing public. In Mumbai alone, about 18 million people a day flock to the moviehouses, making this city the largest center of the Indian movie industry. This movie center is Bollywood, what some say is the world's movie capital. Coined from Bombay (the former name of Mumbai) and Hollywood (the center of the American movie industry), Bollywood is the largest part of the Indian movie industry. It is the major producer of movies in the Hindi language. Is there a certain format in producing Bollywood movies? Are there qualifications to become a Bollywood star?

hey man are you from india or any other nation . i will tell one thing that is here you should one thing that india ia producing a so many movies and recently entered the bollywood into the guinness book of world records . and the one thing i never to forget that is how many movies it is producing is not important and and how many movies are quality in nature . you now one thing even one movie is not able to get a oscar ward in the india . it is a very bad thing i heard about that. indian movie making is purely based on the bussiness and not the quality based . and i think the bollywood star amirkhan will produce the quality movies and his movies are going to nominated in the oscar nominations but unfortunately they are not selected .

@srikanth. I agree that Bollywood puts emphasis on quantity over quality. Also, revenue of the movie also derives from the music videos and DVD releases of the films. I can't really judge the industry but I have read that some Bollywood movies are adapted form Hollywood ones. Besides, it depends on the audience how deep they want their movies to be.

I am not sure but I have done a little research about the Bollywood industry. basically, Bollywood films are very predictable and the genres are often repetitive. Bollywood movies are known for drama, love and family themes. Also, a Bollywood movie isn't a Bollywood movie with a sing and dance routine. It's basically a musically with a plot. Usually, a Bollywood movie has a large cast aside from the main cast. They take choreography to the next level. Costumes are also imp0oratnt, especially if you are dealing with period films. Bollywood is often a narrative and don't use special effects. It's more humanistic and deals with human issues but often not as deep as other films. I have no information regarding becoming a Bollywood actress or actor but I suppose that any Bollywood star is a good dancer and singer. This is mainly because of these are song and dance sequences. of course, acting is also a great requirement as well as looks. beauty is always important when it comes to the movies industry, anywhere in the world.

I'm still not sure. If you want to be a Bollywood actor, you have to sing and speak Hindi. As i said, it's kinda a requirement for a Bollywood actor. I also don't know how Indians deal with foreign actors. It's not like Hollywood where nobody cares where you came from as long as you can act on a film and speak English. Also, you might get confused because most Bollywood films are centered on Indian culture. I think you have to be fully immersed in the culture before you can appear in those films.

I am from India and I have been watching Bollywood movies ever since I was a little kid till date. Its really glamorous as you get paid hell lot and nowadays even famous Hollywood stars have started acting in Bollywood movies. Well as regards to the qualification part, you need to act really well, know how to dance and have lots of contacts. You need to look great like a model and be influential. But its not easy to be an actor there. There are thousands and thousands of people trying for that everyday and no one hardly even gets it lol

You have a big following of Bollywood films right here in Australia! I was not really interested in these types of films for many years, even though I've been in close contact with the local Indian scene here. There are a great number of quality Aussie actors & actresses applying for leading roles in Bollywood films in India. Very, very few are accepted. The standard is very high & those at the top, in charge of selection are incredible people. So, there are no formal qualifications, but you need to be damn good at every single aspect of acting. Now I have done some acting myself & have been on national TV before, but this is something else altogether. As before, I had no real interest in these types of films, but they always looked very colourful & the music & the style seemed interesting & beautiful in its own way. Last night I stayed up late to watch a Bollywood film based on some of India's history. I cannot recall the title exactly, but it was the story of Joddha(?) & Ajabar(?) covering the period of the Muslim Conquest of the various kingdoms in India. It was very well done. It had every quality of what I'd consider a very worthwhile production. It was quite low-tech, but that was to be expected. The spiritual truths contained within this film & the noble aspirations of some of the people midst the violent, power-hungry, blood-thirsty struggles & wishes of others I found very inspiring & thought that the Indian people would benefit greatly from seeing such films. I would personally like to see more of this exact type of Bollywood movie & wish this movement every success.
