Crushing me with one sentence.....

I cooked something all day long in the crockpot today. The smell was wonderful. It was very simple: package of frozen chicken breasts, a bottle of bbQ sauce, a can of crushed pineapple, a chopped red pepper and chopped onions. It slow cooked all day. We sort of ate in shifts this evening. My son and I had some of this on buns. My daughter had some over rice. We all loved it! My husband worked late tonight with his freelancing job. He generally loves bbQ and I figured he would love this (he's not fussy at all). I made sure that we saved plenty for him to eat. His opinion after one bite: "Didn't really like it and the meat was dry" What?! Who is this man and why did I bother!

If he is not fussy and this time he did not like I don't find there is anything wrong in that. Probably he did not like it. Full Stop! Now listen to this. We were just married and I was going all out to please the Lord. I did a chinese dish - sweet and sour pork and waited for him to say something and ofcourse he did say and that was "Oh it is lovely but please do not make it again!

Sometimes things aren't so good when they are re-heated.. and re-heating certainly does tend to dry meat out quite a bit. Or maybe he was just tired and cranky after working late?

Sorry. Still though, maybe it had just cooked too long. I've noticed with my slow cooker, even on low 6 hours seems to be the limit before things start getting too dry and overcooked tasting. But he probably was just crabby.

This wasn't reheated. It was still cooking in the crockpot. I think he was just crabby. I'm over it....

This sounds pretty good to me and I think I will try it tomorrow. Chicken is the best kind of meat for me. I could eat it every day

He usually loves everything I make. He was a little grumpy from work. I forgive him :)

Well, first of, answering your question... He is your husband. Perhaps, it bothers you so much because you want his compliment? This is just my thought, alright? hehe. Anyway, your husband might had a bad time at work or frustrated about something. Maybe it's his way of coping. Just let him be. I bet that chicken bbq is superb!

don't worry. that is may be because of job tension or some other tension. or he might be thought to have food along with family members. you all finished your dinner earlier without him. these may be one of the reason.. so ask him and try to know the actual reason. this is affection.!!!!

Argh! This reminds me of a time my mom made a new dish (years ago before the dementia). My dad walked in, saw it, and said he didn't want it. I told him he better eat it or he'd hurt my mom's feelings. So he ate it, and when he was done he goes, I was right. I didn't like it. Looking back now I think he'd feel bad for doing that. But he didn't think anything of being rude. And he had made up his mind he wasn't going to like and convinced himself before he even tasted it. If someone makes you dinner, you say something nice and you don't complain.

Sounds delicious! I'm going to try it. How many hours after you ate did your husband eat? Maybe if it cooked several more hours it got dryer, although I've never had that happen when I've used the crockpot for chicken. I find if I'm going to be out for a long time that chicken thighs work better. You also might try adding mango to the sauce, in addition to pineapple.

He might have been right about it. Didn't you check the food before it was served? It happened to me when I got home late from my moonlight job, my wife gave me something to eat. It was my dinner but ate it very late at night. The rice got dry and hard to bite.

Oh my goodness rocketj1 I have done that. Don't know why but most husbands just want steak and potato. I am gonna make chicken cacciatore for dinner tonight. Brown the chicken add ingredients and simmer in a electric skillet for 45 minutes. Will make mashed potatoes and figure out what veggie to have. this is one of my favorite recipes to cook. have a great day.

What's so outstanding about that? The theatre critic, Alexander Woolcott crushed the musical, "Bang!" with one word: "Ouch!" and claimed to have produced the shortest review ever. However, Stephen Pile pointed out that previously somebody had reviewed "A Good Time" with: "No". I can't remember the critic's name, but I don't think it was Calvin Coolidge.

I would feel the same way, if I put in my time and effort to prepare a food and somebody wouldn't appreciate it. But since he is your husband who had worked til late, he probably lost the appetite which might have made him comment negatively on your dish.

Maybe he's just disappointed with something and got a his mood on his tongue. I'm sure it's delicious because you made me hungry while I was reading this. Just relax and try to understand him. (^^,)
