Why the heck Simon hired her as a judge, I can understand him hiring Britney, Though Britney is not the best singer in the world she have 2 decades of a career, so in a way she have enough knowledge on the music industry runs. I dont understand why would Simon hire Demi Lovato as a judge/menthor? she is 19 years old. Some X-factor contestant will be singers on their 30's 40's and even 60's. How would those people feel being judged or mentored by her. I know Simon originally wanted Whitney Houston but she died, Then tried to get Mariah Carey but I guess he cant afford her. They get rid of Nicole because she is not emotionally stable to be a judge.... a 19 year old doesn't sound emotionally ready to eliminate people and crush their dreams. Should we really give a teenager a chance to be a talent show judge?

I think x factor is trying to veer away from being labeled as just another AI. As we know part of every show's success is the publicity. I don't think Simon isn't aware of how people would react by letting a 19 year old judge someone given her own qualification. So he must be expecting this already. The fact is, he can always let go of any of the judges when it's about time and as soon as they served their purpose. Just like AI, the judges aren't just judges, they are being judged as well on how good or bad their commentaries are. If they're not effective, chances are you won't see them again next season but as they say the show must go on.

Its weird to see her mentor a 22 year old singer, let alone those singers on their 30's above. Imagine Demi Lovato mentoring the next Susan Boyle. Mariah must be too expensive for Simon. It reminds me when people complained at American Idol for hiring Ellen Degeneres as a judge.

I don't think it's an oversight but who knows. But I have to agree that it would certainly be awkward for a singer to be mentored by someone half his age. It would also be a quite a challenge for the singer to look up to a teenager and heed her advise if he want's to win. But one thing is certain and that simon's choice has made people thinking. The more poeple think about show the more they get curious to find out what the outcome would be. If demi ends up as a disappointment, there's always someone willing to take her place. And simon ends up laughing all the way to the bank .

I think Simon just wanted the singers he will mentor to win. I mean he fired Paula and Nicole for eliminating his precious Rachel. Maybe I am being too mean to demi....Who knows she can help a 40 year old singer to be "current" and marketable for a younger audience.

this is quite shocking indeed. I don't know why Simon chose her- maybe because he thinks the show should have a teenager judge too, to relate with the younger generation, and it'll also attract more viewers. She is in the business for a decade already and had won awards..

did she started her career as a child? lets just hope she is mature enough for this responsibility. i am still not sure if she is capable of being a good judge and menthor or her youth will take over and be messy. Imagine her mentoring older contestatnts. I know Simon fired the host, If he wanted a teenager, a teenage host would be better than a teenage judge.

I don't understand that either. I think that she needs more experience before she's a judge. I have found that the older I get, the easier it is for me to make certain judgments that I couldn't make when I was younger.

teenagers have tendencies to do rush judgement then what knowledge and life experience can she mentor someone older than her. I am sure many contestants would be older than her.

Hello CaptainAlbert, It's his show and that's his decision to boot. I don't know maybe he didn't have enough budget to hire a very active but veteran singer to judge in the competition.maybe he had interviewed the singer before she gets qualified for the show? too bad abdula wasn't around there to boot. let's see how it goes.

I think Simon fired Paula and Nicole because they voted off Rachel, I think Simon wanted her to cos youknow she is a young, and he can mold her for a longer time. I dont know when will he release Melanie's album. 2nd season will fail if Melanie fails. I guess he hired to Demi to get teens watch this show...but there are other teenage signers more talented and experienced than Demi. Can you imagine if you are a 50 year old singer and Demi is your mentor.... I heard that the final toss up is between Avril and demi..... i think Avril is a better choice than demi.

i think Simon chose demi because she is one of the few singers in Hollywood who actually sound okay live yes even though she is a teen i think she has enough experience in the business to coach the hopefuls

I dont know if she is emotionally stable enough to vote off a person though, she is very young and her emotions are still fragile but we'll see.It would be hard for her if she ends up mentoring the "over the 30's" those people are older than her and have more experience...but we'll see, I will give her a chance.

I agree with you! I think they should have picked older singers as judges to be fair. :)

Thankfully she is going to train the 12 to 16 year olds. Well she have more experience than those people. I also heard she will have advisers that wont be shown on tv.
