To sleep more than 8 hours or less than 6 hours increase the risk of cardiac disease. Recently in a study the researchers came to this conclusion. Lead by Dr Rohit R Arora the head of the department of cardiology of Chicago Medical School the researchers found that in the night those who sleep more than 8 hours or less than 6 hours their risk of heart attack or heart failure increases. They say those who sleep more than 8 hours their artery of heart becomes blocked by blood clot and they fall in the risk of heart attack and stroke. Dr. Arora said we became sure that heart disease and sleep are entangled to each other. So habit of sleep is an an important factor for heart disease.

Hi tatsumaki, I'm not a doctor. I can't give you advise. At best I can give you suggestion. When you can not sleep you may take relaxing tablet, but not sleeping pill. I do that. I think sleeping at the noon is a bad habit. You can have nap after your lunch and that will make you refresh.

I read about this recently too. My hubby and I have different sleeping patterns. I go to bed early because I need to see to it that my daughter sleeps early. But I'm an early riser too. I need to have sufficient sleep to function the next day or I will get grumpy. But I do get about 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night. My hubby seems to be able to survive with much less sleep. He sleeps after midnight and wakes up about 5am to go to work. But I know that he will extend his sleeping hours on days he doesn't work to make up for lost sleep.

Hi Sydney, I think sleeping depends on habit. Your hubby has get adjusted with less sleep. You are following the sleeping grammar : 'early to bed and early to rise....'. That's good.

I'm a morning person while my hubby is a night owl. I feel that I get more accomplished when I wake up early. I'm fresh and not tired. My hubby loves to work at night. He said he works better at night when there is less distractions. For me, it's not about the distractions; it's about the level of energy and state of mind. I'm cultivating the habit of early to bed and early to rise with my daughter too. I think it would be better for her when she starts formal school and require her to be in school by 7am. Now she is in kindergarten and I send her to the earliest time slot because I believe children learn better early in the morning when they are still fresh.

Hi bunny, yes it's a problem. You can do more physical work or exercise. That will make you tired and fall asleep when go to bed. Other thing is that with aging deep sleeping disappears. Your problem is from both sides. But don't worry. When you can't sleep read book and that will mom your brain.

I used to sleep more than eight hours a day. I used to spent a good time both in night and day time. Now I have am having my vacation. So to get rid from the boring days I just go for a long sleep. Any way now onwards I need to control them.

well, i think it depends with the condition of the people what they have , if they are too much with their sleep we cannot say if it is good or bad with them..we cannot always trust the study of the medicine , because for me i think, most of us dont know what condition they are with right now..

that is great to say but i suffer from insomnia. it is not that there is stuff running through my brain and i can't turn it off; more often than not, i just cannot fall asleep, so i am sure that i will have problems with my heart as i age.

Hi cher, I have great sympathy for you. Your problem is different. You need sound sleep. I think you have mental stress for any reason. Try to avoid this stress. You can practice yoga. I think that will help you. Consult with a psychiatric. He or she may solve your problem.

I think the first thing that is important to mention at this point is that everybody is different, and some people have to sleep different amounts of time to others. For me, I know that I have to have eight hours or I am not able to function the next day. My Dad, on the other hand, rarely has more than 6 hours, and he is absolutely fine with that. There are just as many health issues with sleeping too much as there are when you sleep too little, so you should never fall for the illusion that you need to be sleeping more every night.

Hi Gemma, My presumption is if you work hard every day you need to sleep more than 7 hours. But it should be less than 8 hours. Excessive sleeping is harmful. I'm not an expert. Doctors can give you the right answer.

I didn't know about it. It is very interesting, because the problems that we have when we don't sleep enough is easy too see, but the problems to sleep too much is some kind of invisible. I think that is not just sleep too much that can cause this problems. They are related with our actual lifestyle too, with a lot of stress, junk food and other things, but for sure we have to take care to don't have a heart attack during the sleep time. Happy mylotting.

yes it is right. more or less sleep is not a good thing. you have to sleep in a right duration of time. its not good if you always sleep. in fact, it could make all your bloods go to your head and you'll find it hard to get up because you feel dizzy. its not also good if you sleep less because it might give you disease.

Sounds great and this is more important to our health. But from somewhere I have heard that the more you sleep the more toy can lose your weight. So I prefer to sleep more for fatty people out there and yes 6 hours sleep is must needed to keep ourselves fit, healthy and cool.

Hi patelpranay, we need sound sleep for our better health. Excessive sleeping is always harmful for our health. It makes a person fatty. Fat is the cause of many diseases including cardiac problem.
