Bomb and deadly earthquake in Italy

Seven people are dead after a powerful earthquake in Northern Italy. In the southern city Brindisi a bomb has killed a girl near a school. All this happens on top of the crisis that has rocked the country. My thoughts are with the Italians, I wish them courage and a lot of strength in these hard days.

It certainly isn't plain sailing here in Italy right now. Here are links relating to both tragedies: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18138399 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18135898 So many families have seen their lives come to a standstill over the week-end and my thoughts are with them. It makes us realise how petty some of our other so-called problems are. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new week and I dread to think what more can happen here

I'm so sorry about all this! I had a lot of work today but I've been watching BBC and our TV news. They say that pain and challenges make people stronger and I see this in Italy, Italians don't give up. But I'd wish them more peaceful days.

They are indeed positive people and each time they pick up the pieces and move forward. This time I hope it will be the same but it seems that everything is against them at the moment, including the weather. There are over 3,000 people who will not return to their homes tonight and it is pouring with rain and cooler than it should be at this time of the year.

What a mess! I'm glad that your town is not in Emilia Romagna. Let's hope that after this something better will happen at last.

That's too bad for our neighbors. Unfortunately we are in a high risk zone when it comes to earthquakes. About the girl incident is really sad :( I wish the best possible for the victims' families.

I hadn't heard about either one. How awful. My thoughts and prayers are with them, too.

I found that one earlier, right after I replied here; thanks for the link. I haven't heard much more about it, though.

I am so sorry. That is horrible. The people of Italy are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

They need this. TV cameras show people in shelter, ancient buildings are damaged. It seems that they haven't lost their spirit but they need a flow of good energy and prayers.

Hi, Aerous, unfortunately the world has become an insecure place. But we need to show those evil people that we are not scared.

That was such a sad news, this doesn't have anything to do with 2012 right? Cause I never heard about Italy having earthquake at all. Never knew Brazil to have it too and São Paulo shaked few years ago. The world is changing, hopefully for the best but it's so weird how it seems Mother Earth is angry with us. We should respect her.

Hi, Katie0, in fact earthquakes are not a strange event in Italy. But Italians are organized and well-prepared to deal with them. People cannot prevent this kind of disaster but you are right, we should respect our Earth.
