Stomachache... Ok.... Get to the Hospital and Get Me Someone to Play With!

Hi friends and lotters After the past few days at the hospital (my aunt and her brain tumor), finally there was some good time that I could spend at my dad's place yesterday. For those who dont know, I am suffering from ulcerative colitis and normally there is some pain in the lower stomach and intestines. After dinner, (okay it was heavy as it was yummy) the pain started to surface. Mom told me to take rest and my nephew (8 years old) who heard needed to be briefed that I have some stomachache. Once the briefing was over, he started at me and I could sense he had some questions - and he said that it is good that I have some stomachache and now I should get to the hospital so that he can have someone to play with Failing to understand, I asked him what he meant - and I was told that he has been recently watching too much of tele soaps and many of them show that people (okay married ladies) who have some stomachache get to the hospital and return with a baby The innocence did make me smile and it was a great moment which I had in the past few days... Now, to make this a discussion - What has been your experience with the Tele Watching of Kids! Anything you can share... Cheers, theSids.

Oh my,so how are you feeling now buddy? Hope you're feeling well. Grrr,I know there are many instances of tele watching of kids that my little Crystal told me but as usual,as I am thinking of it now,I can't remember any, waaa!!! That usually makes me smile buddy and makes me hug her so tight 'cause her simple mind and thinking sometimes has a relevance, haha! Oh! Now I remember one thing but it was about my son when he was just 7 yrs old, haha! He was with me one time when I withdrew money from an atm machine and he saw how money came out from the machine instantly. When we are about to leave,he told me to go back again to the machine and get more and more money so we will have lots of money to buy for our needs, haha! He thought it's for free or just as simple as having money, haha!

hi mtr Aw! That is sad that you dont have anything from dear Crystal... Wait. I will tell her when she grows up and joins MyLot... no wonder... moms love their sons more than their daughters I remember your earlier discussion about your son when you mentioned he doesnt have time for you.. maybe you can tell him about this sweet incident and see his reaction... Any Time Money or Any Amount of Money

Lol... You know, the lady friend who got me at mylot too has a kid daughter. And she did keep her busy though she helped the mom drawing on her computer and I have told the mom - your daughter is a lotter in the making My kid, when I have one, is sure to become an internet person from day one as I spend most of my time on the internet and computers... I wonder how Crystal doesnt intervene and help you out in typing responses at mylot Once, one lotter had drawn a Christmas Tree on every post she responded... and my nephew who was around 7 then, had me type - "I love the Rocket" for one of her posts which had that drawing... I tried hard explaining him that it was a Christmas Tree but would he listen or even care to understand

Haha, that's what also dear jaiho and bhaby told me when they visited us at home, they said Crystal is going to be in mylot when she grows up,lol! My son knows how much we love him buddy,it's just that he doesn't want the hugging or kissing or even "treating him like a baby",as what he always tell me(huhu). I really miss my son, sigh! Or I'm still not into him being a big man now, hehe! Hubby always tell me to let my son be a man as what he is now.

Oh my, speaking of kids and tele watching. I saw my two nieces at our hometown, when i slept overnight there, so engrossed with a teleserye, the one with a mentally retarded teenager. I told them that they shouldn't be watching them, because as kids loves to mimic they might mimic the way the retarded speaks. But they said they will not. They are just so sympathetic with the retarded child, that they even cried when something happened to him in the show! Oh , amazing how children could be touched and moved by that!

Hi SimplyD Many a times I too cry with the actor or even the toon on the tele. I dont know if that is because I am too emotional or I am a kid somewhere deep within... but yes, these innocent acts of kids do make me and many happy - I was smiling despite the pain and even the sad thoughts of my aunt at the hospital

It's nice to hear that you were able to smile sids, despite the pain and sad thoughts of your aunt at the hospital. A child's innocent banter never fails to elicit a smile on our faces.

Oh sids hope you are doing fine, i just read this post as i was at home and just opened the computer just now at the office... and i wont be able to be online the whole day as i have a strategic planning for the whole day.. darn. anyways hope you are doing fine my friend. As for my kids, well they never really watch that much tele soaps as me and hubby banned those actually.. they only watch cartoons and discovery channel and NatGeo.. kinda pretty strict when it comes to what they are watching as tele soaps here sometimes exaggerates too much.

You know, my nephew wanted his dad to gift him a giraffe on his 6th birthday - courtesy: Discovery Channel. And since then his dad has said no to the Discovery at home...(poor dad)... I would have asked my dad to get me a space ship if we had the Channels when I was my nephew's age

He thought there was going to be a little thesids running around. Children are so funny and they can come up with the craziest things. I can not even begin to tell you what my children have put me through over the years. I have always tried to feed their imaginations and teach them from their assumptions. I think I have had more fun than they have from their youth. I love talking to little children. Take care.

Recently I visited my native village alongwith the family. My daugher (13 years) got surprised, a cat with her three new born children at my sister's place. (She never seen such a scene here in Mumbai) and its eyes were closed and could not open and we given the reasons also. It is her understanding that to have a child, we should get married. To her anxiety, she asked who is her h/b and where is he gone. My sister said, it has no h/b and this cat is here in our home for the last 3-4 years. So she asked, how can it be possible, no h/b and there is children. For humans, there should have a h/b and the only we can have children and it is nice with a cat that no h/b and still they got children. And finally, she asks, why didn't I born as a cat - We all laughed and when you said about your 8 year old nephew, I just remembered about such funny thoughts in children. Leave it, hope you are alright and feel good now. We will get yummi things around and just think that yummi or stomach pain is more enjoyable! (Just joking). Relax and have nice day. Thank-s

Hi thanks A kid in the house many a times can be so much relaxing, I couldnt help laughing despite the pain when my nephew said this. Normally, I believe that this is to the fact as we in India do find it difficult to explain things to kids many often. What are your plans for the summers dear? Any vacations?

I just took 15 days of leave and visited my native place in the mid of June and back here in May 1st week. We almost enjoyed as it was raining and it was really a nice experience after a long time. Children found it was really tiring as we were travelling most of the days as my relatives are now scattered and settled in different locations. However, I prefer to meet my old friends and to spend with them for few hours after a long period of time made me also much happier. Didn't got enough time to meet everyone and still feel a month time is not good enough. The difference is that we were good frineds in those times and now, the friendship extended as a family atmosphere. Most of them got married and they have children and the children got child too! I felt so happy that one of my friends daughter is acting in a cinema (got state award also for the film) called Byari. The story is based on Muslim remarriage. The girl acted in a Play called (God's Book of Mathematics) which staged about 14 states in India. The sad part is that I could't spend much time with them. The vacation got over so soon and I think next time I need to plan alone as the family trips lacs freedom.

At times I do envy you for having such great friends The play sounds to be something interesting - I hope today's generation and the future ones do overcome the Hindu Muslim thing as it has been eating up the country for so many decades now. And unfortunately, vacations do end sooner than we want them to

Hey Bro I wasn't aware with that.. Are you having that problem since long? Hope you are okay now. That is really funny one.. Daily soaps are affecting so many peoples these days, even kids included.. One of my younger cousin is also fan of these daily soaps.. and he used to record dialogs in his mobile. And during fighting he always used those emotionally blackmailing dialogs... And I know its all from those daily soaps.

This is hilarious and so sweet. He did put two and two together here. My daughter has simply refused to learn kathak dance, she went to kathak classes last year for ten days and now she says its so simple one two three four and she has learned all there was to be learned about kathak, now she wants to learn dance on dhink a chika and then I had to relent and take her to those classes which are a craze these days and she is enjoying it so much now.

But I have started liking the western dance class too, they do teach basics and the body remains flexible so no harm in learning them and I will wait till she gerows up a bit to make her learn the classical form of her choosing.

hi mansha What a coincidence... one of my cousin's daughter is named mansha and she was learning Katthak... until she went to school... and ever since she wants to learn those "Item Number" Dances from bollywood... My sister and jeeju have failed to make her learn kathak and the dance master too gave up. Though they didnt send her to those Item Song Dance Classes but she is learning some of them watching the Tele. We all hope that as she grows she would realize that these modern dances from videos or even the bollywood flicks are easier to perform once you lean the classical forms... until then... blame it on tele or even the vogue

For some one who is 8 years old and that too in today's world this innocence is indeed rare. Honestly I find children of this age know more than I do these days and so I have not observed anything that would remotely match that of your nephew's innocence.

Hi allknowing Quite true. Today, even at 8 many kids lose their innocence to the Computers, Tele and even peers. Our times were I think much better than what the kids of today are into but I think this is good for the generation where competition is near cut-throat.... This is why such incidents are becoming rare and still they catch our attention.

Hi Sids, We don't allow our kids to watch that much tele for similar reasons. We limit their entertainment time to an hour a day, but we let them use it freely throughout the week meaning they watch 2 hours in one day etc but after 7 hours it is going. My five year old comes up with some silly phrases though she told me the other day the sky was broke cause it was leaking (raining) and the bug in my computer (weatherbug) said no rain so it was broken. Of coarse I blame my husband for putting that idea in her head. He is the one that tells her a bug lives in my computer. Kids can come up with the funniest things sometimes though. I think it was both cute and sweet your nephew assumed the end result was a friend for him.

Dear Jess I know you have a big family with many kids around. I wonder why they need a tele at all, there wuld be so much of family attention and love with all those kids around... My nephew is all alone and the family has no other child so he stays glued to the tele most of the time he is at home. This necessity from him is just a kind of reflection that the kids really dont like to stay all alone by themselves and need at leaast one more sibling to play with and live like a kid

Hahah, that is too cute about your nephew and his thinking you were pregnant with the stomach ache you had. I have not been around to many children lately, I have no nieces or nephews, etc. So I don't have anything to talk about pertaining this discussion and the actual question, but I read that you have UC. I have colitis, non ulcerative and I know how that can be. God Bless and I do hop you can get it all under control again. I have to watch I don't eat any peppers, that might stir the pot so to speak, and also stressful situations. Right now though my main health concerns are a of a different nature, long story. Thanks for the laugh about the nephew though, I did need it.

Hi NailTech Oh dear... I can very well understand the problems you might be facing. It is great that you are doing good in terms of following the advices of the doctors for keeping that disease under control. But unfortunately, I feel hopeless. Though it has been with me since 2000, after so many years, I still am unable to control myself when it comes to food. Though most of the time I do keep a control but there are some days (like this one) when I dont bother and just go on eating and making my taste buds feel happy. Though off-discussion - I have been on steroids and other medicines since 2005 - we diagnosed it right only in 2005. I am happy that this discussion could bring smiles to you. Take Care dear

Hello sid, first let me laugh and enjoy that kid's thought. :-D Our youngest cousin who is now 1st standard did last year when the film Robo comes. By what means no one knew, she got attracted with Aiswarya rai and used to watch that movie again and again. When most of our family members are speaking about her and she was there too. Suddenly she said that everyone should call her Aiswarya and she is fair like her. From that onwards we would make fun at her. In initial days she enjoys much and now she gets shy when we call her by that name.

Hi viji Ah yes doc, I too had this name fantasy when I was a kid... I never liked the nickname I have, as one of my Telegu friends in school told me that it means egg in Telgu Ever since I wanted to have my nickname changed to something else - this was never static in those days and I do remember I got confused myself with those nicknames... today, most of the known people - friends, colleagues and even friends on internet and clients call me theSids or Sid and I am happy with that name...
