The prime Minister of India in his speech addressed to public on Television on 22nd of May 2012 has declared India as Polio free Country as per the WHO. The World Health Organization reported that in 2011 India has not reported any case of Polio. This means that 2011 is India’s polio free year and so it will no longer be considered as Polio-endemic. The other country which has been declared Polio free along with India by WHO is Gabon, which also had no cases of Polio in the year 2011. Four Countries still have reported the cases of Polio and they are Pakistan, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Chad. The the number of cases reported this year in the month of April were almost reduced by 50% as compared to last year. The initiative taken up by WHO in eradication of Polio Globally is seems to be working quite satisfactorily and within few years we can expect to have World free of Polio infection. The other diseases which have been eradicated by Human intervention so far are Small Pox and Rinderpest . The aggressive approach by the Indian Government and the Voluntary Organisations involved in it together with Health Ministry deserve special compliments for achieving this big Success of eradicating Polio from India. I really feel happy to know that within few Years we are Going to have the World without Polio infection. Your views on this topic are highly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks dear Jaiho! Whatever your hero says is absolutely right! A healthy country means there is a healthy manpower for production in the country! The country needs to spend less money on the health and its related things. To have a healthy nation is really a fortunate thing! This step of India in eliminating the Polio from the country, though after a long time, still is appreciated as we have a large land area with different type of terrains and scattered widely under various state Government! In Spite Of having several set backs at various levels, this feat could e achieved successfully with the help of various Organisations, for this the country definitely deserves a pat on its back! The various political parties who are normally against each others' policies have united at this time and helped in fighting against this disease by cooperating in all possible ways to make the dream of WHO to come true! Thanks for responding dear Jaiho! I sincerely appreciate your participation!

Congratulation to India's government on its success on ending polio endemic inside the country. It sure does an excellent job to eliminate Polio infection among Indian urban and rural population, its many years of tireless effort and relentless works carried out by health officials across India had finally pay off, India's health minisry has speared headed this goal for many years; with strong determination and aggressive approach, it finally achieved its target for the good of its people. Bravo!! A job well done! Having say that, for the world to rid of Polio endemic entirely, it still a long way to go and much difficulty still lay ahead. Some of these countries law makers are more concerned about enriching themselves, prefer to spend lavishly on arms race and modern weapon instead of spending on programs that place the health of its people at the top of their priority list in their national policy. It is no easy feast for those countries you mentioned above to reach this stunning achievement by India, Unfortunately, there are still many difficuties laying ahead for a Polio-Free world to emerge within next few years.

Congrats to India ! Your country did a great job : polio was still considered to be endemic in India in 2008 ! It proves that the polio vaccine is very efficient, and it is a pity that polio still exists in some countries : it would be so easy to eradicate completely this disease that it should be a priority for all countries.

You are right dear Jessi, a Polio free World will be a wonderful thing! India had achieved this after struggling a lot for many years. Together with the Government agencies, some NGOs and volunteers have worked hard to make this project of making "Polio free India" a grand success! The famous celebrity of Indian Film Industry Mr. Amitabh Bachchan has played a major role n getting the message across the country through his appearance on TV canvassing for which he charged nothing! His contribution would be remembered by the country forever! Similarly people from small villages have volunteered their help for free at many places to make this event a successful one! It was the appropriate time when the Virus was on the verge of its extinction India has taken up this project to make it a successful one! The timely attack in the form of repeated vaccinations has helped to achieve the target very effectively! I will also we very happy to have a World with no diseases at all,but this is asking for too much as human being is still too helpless in front of many diseases causing micro organisms dear friend! Thanks for responding and I appreciate it sincerely! Have a nice time!
