I have been trying to make a good homemade pizza crust/dough for some time now. And finally am really close! I use a bread machine and the recipe that comes with the machine. The crust was ok. Crispy like I like it, but thin and tasteless. Hard to spread to a pan and literally...no taste! I was in the fabric store while back and talking to the cashier as she rang up my large purchase of fabric...and she mentioned that she had a salad for lunch and was so not looking forward to that. I said...just go get a pizza and have the salad for dinner! She says that she makes hers at home...a great recipe on the bread machines. Of course I jumped to attention and asked her her recipe. She said she didn't remember exactly but did say it had an egg in it. I told her my delima and she said her sons make it all the time and can't get enough of it...it has something to do with the egg making hte dough pliable. So I did a search online for a bread machine pizza dough with egg in it. Found nothing. But all the other recipes were just like the one I had. So I thought...why not just toss an egg in there? I looked in my book and saw that the breads all had an egg and I just put an egg in the dough ingredients same time it said to put the egg in for bread. I did it....IT WORKED!!! The dough was a little sitcky but I kneaded it with some flour and it took right away and spread just fine, baked fine and tasted pretty good! NExt time I will try for a thicker crust and see about the flavor, but for now... I have finally after many many many years of searching...found a good homemade pizza dough recipe....just add an egg!!!!

After this, I really may have to start looking for a new bread machine! I haven't replaced mine since our fire, but I hadn't used it much in a few years. The idea of pizza crust, though, and especially with the egg idea, sounds so very good. And since I love soup in cooler weather then I could use it for good bread to go with the soup. Yep, coffeebreak, you've got my wheels turning. Want to recommend a bread machine now?

I got mine about 20 years ago! And it has served me well. American Harvest..don't even know if they are still around...but I do get the "subliminal message" here... thanks! I used mine alot this past winter in my house, now that I have aroom in the kitchen for it when I didn't in those little apartments. I make cheddar cheese bread and that is great! Also the white bread...hot with butter! You should get one!

LOL No subliminal message intended, but I think I know what you mean and it's a great idea! I had mine for a number of years, too. Sometimes you don't miss things until they're gone. Yep, I should look into getting one. Glad you have room to use yours now!

That is GREAT! The egg makes it a bit healthier, too. When making thick crust pizza I roll the outer edge around strips of cheese before baking. Then, too, I always add ground flax seed and some whole grain flour to the dry ingredients before mixing.
