I was just wondering at what age did everyone here start using makeup/cosmetics. i remember being about twelve or thirteen when i started using makeup and thinking that this was exactly what i was supposed to do. we have an eleven year old friend who was upset because she went somewhere the other day without makeup! but now that i am forty two! i feel that eleven is too young for a girl to wear a lot of makeup/cosmetics. what does everyone else think?

Wow. Eleven seems awfull young. I was fourteen when I started wearing makeup, although my parents told me I could when I was twelve. My sister had really bad skin, so they told her when she was twelve she could wear makeup. So of course they told me the same thing when I turned twelve. But I didn't want to. So I waited until I was fourteen.

I'm 3 years older than you and I never wear makeup. In my teens I think I wore some mascara once but I never made it a habit. But then again I never looked to the magazines to see what I was Suppose to look like. So I never wore Any make up.As for being too young. With tots in tiaras , it all depends on the parents.

It is easier when you didn't have peer pressure. My group of friends were not the " pretty girls" We were coed and crazy.

Hi psychoartist, when I was 15, my form teacher picked me as one of the folk dancers.Lol.... before the stage performance the 10 of us, 5 girls and boys had to use cosmetics prepared by our class teacher. This was the first time for majority of us to wear cosmetics. And we were handicapped and didn't know how to apply them step by step. Of course our teacher and those who were good in it helped us that evening I felt not comfortable to wear different makeup stuffs on my face then. Lol...and I could see my appearance in the mirror looked weird wearing those heavy cosmetics I start using lipstick and loose powder when I had got my first job after graduation. Happy posting

thanks ikbooi, this is an interesting story! it must have been interesting to be a folk dancer and to have cosmetics especially prepared for you! it does feel uncomfortable to wear makeup at first, probably especially during dancing or any exercise. happy posting to you as well!

You are very much welcome psychoartist Yeah, I love fold dancing very much when I was young. I like social dance as well. I just have the interest to learn to dance as physical exercise. It's a great fun and pleasure to move our body listening to the melodious music at the same time. This a great physical activity to keep our body fit and healthy. I'm getting old now and seldom using cosmetic. Anyway I would still like to apply lipstick and powder when attending wedding or any celebration occasions. Hopping this would make me look rather decent Have a nice day

Hi psychoartist! I started using make-up/cosmetics at a very early age. I think I was 5 years old at that time. I have known about cosmetics then at that time since my grandmother being a teacher always wear a lipstick and a little make up. Her reason is that, a teacher should always be presentable at any time and mind you, even inside our house. So with my mom who happens to be a teacher also and she always wear a lipstick and could not leave the house without wearing one. At a very young age, I already use cosmetics but on a special occasions only such as graduation day in our school, school foundation anniversary (since I am a member of our drum and lyre corps) Now being a mother of a little girl, I couldn't stop smiling since she always ask me to buy stuff such as lip gloss, make up for teener (the fact that she is still seven years old) and wanted to be put up a cosmetics everytime I am putting up mine. And at this time, I think there is nothing wrong for a young girl to wear cosmetics but I think they should be properly guided by adults. And let them know the pros and cons of using those staff. Anyway, I beleive there are cosmetics now only made for young ones.

very interesting, ginspearl! i know it must be fun to have a little daughter! i have a son, and we did not get to share the cosmetics experiences! my memories of my grandmother are similar to yours, she sold avon cosmetics door to door and was very into makeup. at that time, that company had small lipstick samples that looked like little lipsticks and she would give me some of them to play with and carry in my little girl purses! i think your mom and grandmother were right, that it is important for teachers (and everyone else too) to be presentable at all time.

I remember buying my first makeup items (mascara and a lipgloss) at about 15-16 or so but I really got into it after highscool at around 20 or so and now I can't live without it, I just love it :)) But to answer your question, 11 definitely seems way waayyyy too young for makeup but as it seems to me kids these days (man, I sound old) seem to be so advanced in things like that and want to act grown up so early. I remember seeing a girl on youtube too, about 11-12, doing makeup tutorials with thick foundation and concealer and it was obvious she thought she needed all that even though her skin was perfect. It's quite sad to watch, really.

Yea.That is exactly correct point.I am supporting your point..11 or 12 is too young to put makeup..Make up can use only when she or he is lost whose natural beauty.I like everyone of that age without make up..They will find more artificially with make up..If doing makeup, do it likely. This is my personal opinion..

I think I was 14 or 15 when I first started wearing makeup and, even then, it was just some mascara and maybe a bit of blush on my cheeks. It wasn't until I was maybe 18 that I started wearing foundation and other things. When I was 11, all I wanted to do was play. I was a definite tomboy at that point in my life and loved climbing trees, playing in dirt, stuff like that. I didn't even THINK about makeup. Well, there was no one I felt I had to impress so I just never thought about wearing makeup at such a young age. Geez, I hadn't even gotten my period at that point! I think girls these days, for the most part, are trying to grow up way too fast. They're not allowing themselves to be kids. They will regret it one day, that's for sure. You don't have much time to play once you're out of school and thrust into the real world. They'll wish they were 11 again and making different choices, I have no doubt.

mentalward, i agree with you that girls are growing up too fast and do not enjoy their childhoods as much. it seems that by the time they are actually grown, they have lost all their youthful zest for living and appear to be 40ish when they may be actually 21. i have a niece who is like this.

I was a late bloomer so the age that I really started wearing makeup regularly was at 18 years old. When I was kid I just occasionally wear make up, like if there are weddings, graduation, or birthday celebrations, but I never really knew how to apply my own makeup until I became 18. I first started trying to apply the foundation, then I also use lip balms and tints, and a little concealer. Then after a couple years, I have learned to apply eyeshadows, eyeliners, contour my face with blushers and bronzers and some other makeup techniques.

i started using and putting make up when i was 20..before that i don't really feel it and not use to it...i think for me, a girl should start using make up at age 14 or 15..i would want my daughter to wear make up at that age..as much as possible i don't want to put make up on her even on special ocassions..i want a natural look on her until that age of 14 or 15...my daughter is only 3 years old..

Well when I was around six I would play "dress up" with my mother's makeup so in reality that would be the age, but I didn't start using makeup properly until I was thirteen. I think there should an age of 13 before you let your kids even come near makeup properly, too many children are becoming victims of predators and girls are exposed to what the fashion industry deems beautiful as well of oversexualization.

Hi there! I started using make up when I finished college. And yes, its too early for an eleven year old kid to begin using it. Maybe parents are all aware what make up is made up. it can cause premature aging for the very sensitive skin. Especially if make up is made up of poor quality it may have a detrimental effect to younger children. Creating awareness to these little girls is necessary to enhance their natural beauty and for their own good as well.

when i was young ,i never regard cosmatics as a necessary goods in my life , because i'm young and health , but when i grow up , graduated from the school , then i notice the age has trace, the better way to keep young and skin smooth is to use the cosmatics, and dress up yourself , make your have energy and spirits . then you will change your attitude to use the cosmatics and beautiful clothes to make you beautiful and notable . www.dress-wholesale.com

i was about twelve when i experimented with make-up. my mother also thought that i was too young so she allowed eyeliner and lipgloss. but only when i went out not to school. i also feel eleven or even twelve is too young, so if you can limit the things that they have excess too. like my mom. only when i finished school i could where foundation and eyeshadow and whatever else. but we need to remember the younger we start wearing make-up the sooner we will show signs of aging and who wants to be 25 and look 35.

I started using some cosmetic product at the age of 16 I was quiet afraid using them, because my mom told me that some products young age couldn't use. I tried to wear make up during my 16 birthday. But I find that i can't wear make up that long. So once party or any occasion was over I have to cleanse up my face once. A lipstick would do much better. Thanks ..Happy mylotting!

I never really wore make up much as a kid and still don't. I started with nail polish when I was a late toddler. Never really got into make up because well its just wasn't my thing and I'm not that girly. I don't think there is really any age that is right or wrong. A lot of make up is never good at any age.

Well i have very faint memories about my first experiment with the makeup. but as far as my knowledge goes, i had probably experimented with makeup when i was barely 7-8 years of age. I remember how i used to apply face toner creams and face talc and i do also remember how once i had entirely spilled the face toner that comes in a small pouch and how i was severely scolded by my mother...

My mom always putting make up to me when I was 6 years old because I always joining in a beauty contest and most of the relatives invited me to become their flower girl. When I was 15 years old I started to study on how to put make up properly and what kind of colors that fits on me that can blended to my skin. Now when I go out with my friends and husband I make sure to put some light make up to look presentable and to show my natural beauty.
