water weight

I've been trying to loose weight for well honestly for over 20yrs, but that seems to be most anyone now days. However, I've been really good compared to how things are in winter but I can't seem to loose a lb. I know exercise is key but I still should be loosing something because I"m not drinking soda, eating smaller portions, and I'm more active since it's warmer. Either way I swear I'm loaded on water weight! I've been shifting between a no loss to up to -10lbs. It's very discouraging when you finally see you lost something only to step on the scale again the next and see your back to your starting point. Now I know there's water weight gain around a woman's period BUT that can't be the only time. What can I do to curb this yo-yo of what I think is water weight?

Have you tried cutting out salt and sugar? Look at the labels on the food you're eating and you'll notice that nearly all processed foods whether frozen or canned or otherwise in a package have prodigious amounts of sodium--salt! They also have a lot of sugars, usually the unhealthiest kind. When I cut most of the salt from my diet I felt SO much better and I dropped 5 pounds and kept it off. Once salt started creeping back into my diet I gained that back. So I cut it out again and here I am, 5 pounds lighter without even dieting. And you'll have more energy if you avoid sugar. Try it, it can't hurt you a bit.

After posting I was thinking that perhaps it's the salt in food also. I've heard how many people say when they quit soda they dropped weight but I really don't drink alot of soda it's only when we go to McD's and that's maybe 2x a month. Otherwise I think the only things with alot of extra salt we eat is sausage occasionally and tortilla chips (for taco's).

ehonor, I did not mean to imply we don't need salt and sugar. The amounts we do need, we can get in a well balanced diet with no added salt and sugar. We get it from grains, vegetables, fruits, juices, etc. The most harmful sugars come from processed grain products like white bread and sugary drinks flavored with high fructose corn syrup (which is even in baby formula nowadays). If you eat a well balanced diet and hydrate yourself properly, you need very little (if any) added salt and sugar.

Dragon is right on this one. Hidden sodium can cause water retention and so can refined carbohydrates. Leaving off all kinds of soda is an excellent start. Drink more water. Do put a splash of fruit juice in it, or squeeze a lemon in it. High potassium foods help you counteract the naturally present sodium. Cucumbers and watermelon will make you urinate a lot and get rid of that water weight. I do not advocate any fad diet, but one reason the Adkins diet causes people to lose so much so fast is its emphasis on protein. Eat more lean protein and less breads and starches like pasta and rice. Keep a food log for a few days and when you show a big loss look at what you have been eating, that should tell you what will work for you. Now if you are exercising and replacing fat with muscle you will have a heavier weigh as well because muscle does weigh more than fat, but it also looks better in a pair of shorts.

I've always read the best way to get rid of water weight was to drink more water! Honestly that sounds weird, but it's true. If you feel bloated and think you are carrying water, often times what you need is MORE water! I think our body holds on to water when it is not getting enough. But once you start drinking more, it will flush out the water it held on to. Sounds like you are doing pretty good, don't get discouraged. My philosophy is that every day is a new day. Even if I eat too much junk food one day, it doesn't mean my weight loss goals are squashed. I just start fresh the next day. Good luck!

Losing weight and better health lifestyle is the a - Long term consistently health lifestyle is important.
Sometime , metabolism of the body is bad , hence fat accumulate faster and harder to be removed, hence maybe need extra help and work out longer than normal people , consistenly work out and the correct balance diet is good. BEside that , change of lifestyle is important also to have an overall effect on losing weight.Sometime, the good lifestyle itself it good for the whole body , without losing large amount of weight , atleast it is not getting worse.

There are two ways of putting on weight - one is the fat weight and the other is the water weight. You should be lucky to know that you have water weight as it's very easy to reduce it. But to reduce fat is very difficult. So, I suggest you to join any good fitness center around you and start working out.
