Atheists convert people to what?

There are people who say that atheists are trying to convert the believer. But to what are the atheists converting the believer? The atheist has no holy book, no beliefs, no church, no temple. The atheist, if he is sharing his ideas with the believers, is only trying to make them free from beliefs. Freedom from the belief in God, Devil, heaven, hell. There is no conversion involved.

Then why do they try so hard? They should leave the believers alone and stop trying to tell everyone they are stupid for believing in fairy tales. If you don't believe it then just go about your business.

And if you took all the loud mouths from every religion in the world it wouldn't come close to the atheist hate that's put in everyone face everyday.

That`s a simplistic way to look at the problem.Every person has strong beliefs and every person is trying to force his beliefs on others. So the militant atheist doesn`t want to free people from their beliefs, he wants to make people slaves of his own beliefs.

I agree, but the way I see it is that to believe in something you have to consider it to be true, be it a religion, a science or a philosophy. But to make it a truth most people need a type of proof, and convincing others of their ideas works as the easiest truth one can get. That's why widespread religion turned to open religions, and began spreading around and trying to recruit everyone they could. Atheist are humans, so they also search confirmation to diminish their doubts of their ideals, and so they do came to realize the exact same acts that religious people did before them. It happens in everything, that's why there are schools that teachers children theories as truth, even if they are not necessarily unquestionable, and that's why parents teach a set of morals to their children that doesn't necessarily stand up to the real world. People want to erase their doubts, so they use others to test them.

It begs the question 'Why do they bother?' As pointed out in the question, an Atheist essentially believes in nothing, that we are here by accident and therefore there is no point to...well anything... I doubt whether anybody will be wanting to be 'converted' from hope to despair. However if your point is about the use of the word 'conversion' then it is right to use it in this context - you could convert someone from atheism to Buddhism, and then they could be 'converted' back to atheism or to another belief set. You can't really have a blank belief set - you have to believe in something, so reverting to atheism would indeed be a conversion of beliefs. I think the confusion comes about because atheism is not a religion, but it is a set of beliefs nonetheless. You are not free from belief because we can't believe in nothing - I am quite convinced that the human brain is too clever for that.

They are not trying to convert the believer to something but away from something.

I constantly see people attempting to say that atheism is dogmatic and is basically a religion, that it takes "faith" to NOT believe in something. lol I agree that some of the hardcore atheists out there who take their stance to spite religion do paint atheism in a bad way. But they're certainly a minority. And let's be real about things here and stop placating religious people. Atheists aren't strapping bombs to themselves, shooting abortion doctors, flying planes into buildings, etc. If an atheist is a bad person, he or she is a bad person. They're not acting on orders they interpreted from some book older than the country they live in. So when a religious person says something to the extent of, "If you don't believe in it, why speak against it," it's just obvious -- religion controls most of the friggin' world. Guys like me, who believe it's nothing but a fairy tale, speak against it because we're sick of having to live in a world where Bronze Age beliefs shape the world. Then there's the whole "it takes faith to not believe in a god!" bit. That one's just too ridiculous to even respond to. Hey, there's an invisible goblin living in an old paint can in my closet. He spoke to me and told me he created everything -- he's the Alpha and the Omega. He also told me that he cast out his brother goblin from the paint can and that he will now trick people into not believing in him. So if you don't believe in the great goblin creator of the paint can, then you're being tricked by he who was outcast! The goblin is the only truth. He is the light. Believe in him or you will suffer for eternity. Evolution theory has holes in it. It has changed over time; my god doesn't change. This is PROOF of my god! Get it!? And if you think the Big Bang is accurate, well, now you're learning -- finally! It was my god who made the universe this way! And science bears this out by what they have found out. So there is no denying it. How can you? Oh, you must want to sin. You're just angry at my god! The great goblin is the one true creator; everything in science we know today proves it. Now, if you told me I was full of crap, or if you said you wanted evidence, or if you said I just ripped that story off and changed some things, would it then make sense if I said "You have as much faith as I do if you DON'T believe my story!"? On what planet does that even begin to make sense? If I'm making the claim--no matter how many people subscribe to such a claim--I'm the one whose shoulders the burden of proof fall on. If you don't believe in my paint goblin, then that's not faith on your behalf. That's just taking the default position -- you don't believe in things without some type of evidence if you want to hold logical, tangible beliefs. I've personally never tried to "convert" anyone. I have explicitly asked religious people to consider a point or two before. But they never, ever do. Never. It's always the same kind of response, the religious person posing to me, "What if you're wrong!?" without even bothering to wonder the same thing. Atheism doesn't convert. There's nothing to convert to. Atheism is simply not theism. It means that a person does not believe in any gods (in the context of these supernatural, no-evidence-for-them-at-all, all-knowing, all-powerful gods). Religious people, by and large, seem to want their views monopolized. Some kill for it. Others complain for it. But none of their views have supporting evidence. Thus it takes faith to believe in them. Atheism is not believing in those claims. An atheist does not have to believe in the Big Bang, or evolution theory, or even in RNA and DNA. Atheism just means NOT a theist.

Some of the Atheists are righteous people than the other with religion and the didn't follow the principles. Some atheists are helpful, entertaining and full of smile. The important to them they know good over evil. And the choose the right. Some said "I'm god of myself cos I know what are good for me"." And I love my self and I will do good for the benefit of myself" she said.

Just because you're not being converted to another religion, doesn't mean no conversion is taking place. If you persuade someone to adopt your beliefs, you successfully converted them to your way of thinking. For example, if a Republican convinces a Democrat to switch parties, they have successfully converted them. If a pro-choice advocate convinces a pro-lifer to change their beliefs, then they've converted them. So if you successfully change a believer's mind and they become a non-believer, then they have also been converted.

Hi Frederick, There are some atheists who are always laughing at those who believe in a God, and who try to get them to change their mind, but all atheists are not like that. Many just leave others to believe as they wish and respect their opinion. I am not an atheist but I do encourage everyone to have an open mind and think for themselves. Blessings.

I disagree. The Atheist seeks to lead people to change their way of looking at the world by questioning the 'truths' of whatever religion they ascribe to. Even if the person so led remains in his or her religious faith, the process of critical thinking cannot be readily undone because it is so useful outside the discussion of religion. It becomes a habit once one has the hang of it, and so provides resistance to acceptance of further assertions and demands for noncritical, unquestioning faith.
