What To Do With Used Books

I have two children, my eldest is already in college and my youngest is in second year high school. Yearly, we bought set of books for them to be used during the school year. The school would change the textbooks for the next school year so the youngest can not use the books of her elder brother. I kept the books over the years. Maybe there is a way where I could dispose the books.

I would try to sell them on ebay or some other site. If you cant sell them donate them or maybe give it to a friend that would like them. There are alot of people interested in used text book becuase they are alot cheaper then new. So defiently try to sell them.

I agree. Ebay selling do have a market for books. You can even sell eBooks on Ebay as well. I personally do not buy them, but I am sure there would be people who have books in mind they would like to collect. Cheers.

I don't know what kind of possibilities there are in your area, but if there is a bookshop that sells used books you could contact them and ask them if they are interested in the books. Some bookshops in my country sell used books and I have donated many of my old books to them. I have also bought used books in those shops and I combine them with the compulsary books that I use in my school. Sometimes old books are still useful for students, so I think that it be a good idea to donate them to shop that sells used books if that kind of shops exist in your area. If you don't have any shops that sell used books maybe you can donate them to other kinds of charity.

I think reuse books is environmental! I keep my books for many years, i think it useful and don't want to dispose them. Only when i move house, i have to sold it out. I think you can sold it out on net or send to the Red Cross. Maybe somewhere library need it.

That's a good plan zjr! However on our part, it is not advisable to be keeping lots of stocks of any sort because we have a very small space at home. Thank you for the response.

I either sell them on Amazon or donate them to charity shops/give them to friends.

I suggest donating them to charity. It may be outdated but still it can be a good reference for poor people.

You can always donate the used books to other children who wants to learn. If the used textbooks totally cannot be used anymore then you may consider to recycle the books, I believe each one of those books would have hundreds of pages and it is actually helping our environment by reusing what can be used before another tree be chopped down for paper producing. Remember to not just throw it into the dustbin.

I think, if you have enough space for those old books, you're good in kkeping them in a box or a nice container, be sure to put those "moth ball" or nephthalene, to avoid being infested by some insects - Or you may display it in a rack or a cabinet. So those can be easily seen, as it may serve as your reference, maybe some information in those old books can be put into use one way or the other. Conversely, if you have a limited space at home, maybe you could share those books to some friends or to their younger ones, making the same, as a reference. Selling those books to a second hand dealer can earn extra money. Good luck

Most second hand shops, nonprofit retail and libraries accept those items but since I'm a crafter I'd suggest using a couple of them, too. Book safes are great!

Our family used to have a ton of used books as well. We sold some to this website online called Cash4Books. You can go to it www.cash4books.net. They offer pretty decent prices for books. Besides Cash4Books, donating to charity, like others recommended, is a good idea too.

Try donating it to charities, by this way you can help children. If you don't go for option 1 then maybe post them online and sell them. You can also keep some important books at home for future purposes like maybe your youngest or relatives might use them soon.

Local public libraries here will always take book donation. I have donated many school textbooks to them. I have also given some used books to charity organizations where they can resell them.

I have lots of books also from my daughter's school also. I didn't get rid of it yet. My husband told me to throw it away coz we don't need it already and it might attract the termites again since we have lots of termites in the house. I don't think we can sell it. So anyway, why don't you just give it away to the kids who are younger than your kids? Maybe they will want it so that they can review some of it.

Maybe you are right. Perhaps I have to get some off from my job to have time to sort all of these things. I am spending more time out of town because of my job and that is the reason why I do not have time for housekeeping. I hope the office would give me some day off so I will have time to sort the books. I will consider your suggestion. Thank you chicgale!
