How do you enjoy yourself when you're alone at home?

Philippines

I think a lot of people find it boring staying at home and can't wait to get out of their houses to find some kinds of entertainment. Others find that their homes are a great source of entertainment and they find a lot of different ways to fully enjoy their stay at home. How about you, how do you enjoy yourself when you find yourself alone at home? What types of activities do you enjoy when in that particular situation?

hi! i do have a home office so i get to combine work while at home. even when i used to travel a lot in previous work/jobs i had, i am still a homebody at heart. when at home alone, i would spend a lot of time in my laptop (usually on a work-mode but sometimes on a play-mode). i like browsing in the net, reading a lot of various stuff when i'm not busy with work. when i get tired, i play a few online puzzle games. i like to cook a bit too and get busy in the kitchen (but i don't want kitchen duty as a full-time job). hehe while at home, it's also the time when i catch up with family and friends, plan family activities and watch a few movies in cable. of course the 3 basic pleasures i try to indulge in as often and as long as i can would be to eat, sleep and take long showers. when i'm busy, these are the 3 most neglected things for me (like grabbing a meal instead of leisurely enjoying it. and sleeping less instead of my full 6 hours. and i can't afford to take long baths/showers when i'm in a hurry.). so i try to compensate for those when home alone and time to kill.

hello! I hope I could learn how to cook like you, but I don't. I like eating more than cooking, so I often find myself looking for something to eat in the refrigerator. Good thing is that I exercise more recently and I have successfully cut off my food intake which makes me lose a few pounds. Oh yes, cable movies or movies shown on regular tv is one of our family's past time as well. We still have a lot of DVD movies not yet watched, so maybe we'll try watching it one by one on weekends. I have a question, how long does it take you to shower? In our country we call those who take long showers as "banyo queen" or "queen of the bathroom" so I was thinking if you can be qualified for the crown. jk :D Come to think of it, long showers are very relaxing and I was thinking it might be a good idea to place some aromatherapy candles inside to make the experience more relaxing. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

i'm not a great cook... but i got no choice, people at home got to eat. hehe although it's really nice when people enjoy the food that you prepared. lolz... i'm not a queen of anything, and most of all... the bathroom???... hehe no. my showers take about 7-15 minutes on a regular day. quick ones in the morning and longer ones in the evening. but if i need to relax a bit and i can take my time on my showers, i usually spend 30-40min. i can pamper my hair and do thorough body scrubs... plus a few songs here and there. lolz the aromatheraphy candles are quite nice when soaking in the bathtub.

Lolz...my mistake, i'm sorry :D It's amazing how relaxing taking a bath is. I think it's because you also feel very good and refreshed after you finish taking a bath and at the same time its one of those moments when no one can disturb you. Speaking about cooking, what particular food do you cook that your family like?

Sometimes I like to be at home alone. When I am alone in the house, I just watch movies and read. Sometimes I like to bake or clean the house.

Hi chicgale, what types of books do you like to read? I wonder because I also like reading a lot when I'm at home, and I find reading quite stimulating. The authors I like are Napoleon Hill, Andrew Matthews, Richard Carlson and the likes. I think for a lot of women, baking can be a passionate hobby. I have a sister in law who really likes baking and has mastered her craft that it allowed her to get extra income of about $500 a month. Nice passion!

Wow, it's seems you're collecting a lot of novel books in your home. I know a lot of people who likes reading novels but I never got to start it myself. Maybe I will try it someday. Yes, my sis in law really has a lot of talent, and now my brother who is her husband is helping her in that business. I hope your bakery business do well :)

I like to read any suspense novels, but right now I just finished reading the 3rd book of Lauren Oliver. ehhehehhehehe I am going to buy another again next week. :-) If I don't have novels to read, I just read a magazine. That is nice to hear that your sister in law is making good buck in her baking. We used to have a bakery but we stopped for awhile, and we are planning to open up again soon. :-)

I am never completely alone, because we have many pets. I like to spend time with my rabbits and my guinea pigs and the cat and the dog. I never get bored when I am around my pets and I spend a lot of time playing with them and taking care of them. I also have many other activities that I like to do in my home. I paint and draw, I read and I spend time online. I have plenty of art projects that I am working on and I usually enjoy that a lot. I always have some library books that I am able to read in my free time. That is another way that I like to enjoy my time at home. When the internet is working I love to spend time online. I can always find something to do online, there are so many interesting sites to visit

Why do I have a feeling you're such a lucky person? You have a lot of interests and talents and you never feel bored. What else, you have a lot of pets and interesting ones whose company you enjoy much. You are an artist and enjoy doing it while you get paid for some projects you make. I can only say you're living your dreams, am i correct? I hope you have more of your dreams realized, my friend :) Thanks for sharing and you have given me some good ideas how I can have more enjoyment when by myself. Take care!

For me, i think that staying home is an enjoyment for me. I'm more of an introvert and sometimes it really tires me out by attending functions and parties. i feel most comfortable when i am at home. i'm currently still in college and i feel staying at home gives met he chance to focus and concentrate and study better. Apart from studying, i would log online to watch some movies, some dramas and just stay on the internet and absorb so much knowledge! how about you? do you prefer staying home or out?

When I'm at home, I chat with friends through social networking sites and stay up-to-date on trends and things happenings in their lives. I also get to do much work at home -- not the heavy work stuff, but more on writing short articles and blogs that i even get paid for. I also love watching feel-good or adventure-packed, animated or comedy movies on cable tv. There's a lot that can be done in the comforts of home, even if you're alone or with a family member.

Hi dream_ozn, I have a feeling that most people are not that comfortable being in social gatherings but sometimes they wanted to experience it because it can create excitement for them, and I feel the same way. So I think in general, most people feel most comfortable when alone but tries to get some 'excitement' going once in a while. It's nice you like movies, and in my case I watch movies in DVDs. I do prefer staying at home more but once in a while I look for some different experiences outside. Some things that might challenge me and keep me out of my "comfort zone". Hi jcordova, same with you I also do social networking but I usually send messages and seldom chat them. It's great you get income from your writing...I have already posted about writing opportunities here in mylot in the hope of starting my own 'writing career' online but haven't started it yet. Although I do earn from other types of work in my internet like teaching english online to Koreans, teaching tagalog online, teaching chess online, and I have other online investments, jobs and marketing that also earns me income. I'm happy working at home but I do want to get more income from "writing" as well. I watch tv also but only a few programs I'm interested in like sports, reality shows, American Idol, variety shows and other stuff.

I seldom find myself in such a situation. We are seven members in my family and all of them never leave home. But I would like to be in such a situation at least once and see how it feels.I would like to read a lot or get myself engaged in mylotting or watch my favorite movies on the internet.I love to go on long walks, but I won't be able to do so then, because I won't like to leave my home alone.

Yes, mylot won't let you feel lonely even if you're alone because you would be in the company of people around the world. Long walks inside your house will not be so fun, wouldn't it..lol. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Sometimes when I am at home by myself I get bored. And yes,I do want to go out and see a movie, window shop sight seeing and do researching in genealogy.Such as going to libraries, court houses, archives, cemeteries and visiting people. But,when I stay home alone sometimes,it's my chance to get things done that I normally don't get done when my home is busy with people.Such as cleaning, watching a movie or tv show, listen to music that I like without disturbing others in my household.Or,I can get some genealogical research done online or on the phone, read a book, catch up on my writing or studying with out being disturbed.

In most cases, I see more sharing their experiences at home by doing something interesting that they like and enjoy very much. I guess there is nothing wrong with resting and finding good rest in the comfort of your own bed, but I think it's good if you're not depressed. I think resting in bed while depressed and alone is a dangerous way to spend your loneliness, but the best way is to find activities to divert your mind into and forget your loneliness. You have shared a lot here like reading a book, listening to music, watching tv or a movie, and even cleaning ( it always feels good when you see your surroundings cleaner ). Thanks for sharing!

Staying on the net is enough to make me busy and never feel boredom staying at home. I am not an outdoor person and prefers to stay at home if there is no important things to do outside. I do not like crowded places so I do not hang out too much outside as well. I can do a lot of things while at home and I can live alone and love the peace of it.

Oh yeah, I see the word "peace" here and I do feel a lot more peaceful when at home than in crowded places. It's easy to imagine a picture of peace where a man is relaxing in the comfort of his home than someone who is in a crowded place or in social situations where he needs to take care of everything he say and do. At times I like taking a shower and then relaxing in my bed while reading some of my favorite books, and I feel comfortable in this situation.

There are times it is really boring at home when you do not know what to do. However, as I stayed at home for a long time, I did find many things that preoccupy me. Watching TV and movies is one of the best things to do at home also surfing the net. You may enjoy also cooking foods or trying different recipes or doing crafts like crocheting.

I really didn't know anything about doing crafts and can you tell me what is crocheting? I remember when I was younger in elementary or high school where we tried to do some crafts and I do remember having a great time with the experience, especially when the finished product was already produced...it was such a good feeling...I felt really proud of my work.

I enjoy my stay on mylot, so it doesnt matter whether Im home alone or not but when im home alone I can mylot more because I dont have to babysit my brother.

I thank the person who invested the internet. Oh my, I don't even know who invested it! haha. Anyway, I hope he is enjoying unlimited fast connection now at this present moment as my good will for him and as a sign of gratitude ..lol. I always felt doing craft projects are interesting while in the process of doing it and especially when you finished your craft already. I agree, mylot is a great way to keep away from boredom. Happy mylot everyone!

Because I don't get to have the house to myself that often, I find it very nice when I do get to be by myself at home. What do I do in that particular situation? Maybe just watching whatever channel I want on TV while being online at the same time. Other times I would clean the house then just enjoy the fully nice, tidy, and organized house as long as I could. Once the rest of the family are back in the house, I cannot really have the whole house arranged just the way I like it.

That is nice! As they say, "cleanliness is next to godliness" and in the country I live in, "lines" would mean "to clean"...what a coincidence. I also enjoy surfing the web but I use my computer/internet mostly for work now. I often listen to music in my computer while working so that keeps me entertained as I am a music lover. Yes, I do watch tv also once in a while. I also do a lot more exercise lately, and that is keeping me motivated even when alone because I feel good when I can see myself lose more and more pounds, and I'm getting back to my old fitness form.

I'm a homebody and I really like being at home 'coz I find more peace in it. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy being outside, I like hanging out with my friends as well but I think it couldn't match the comfort that my home provides me. :D I'm usually doing a lot of stuffs at home but not chores, I'm a lazy bum if you may know, but my hands are always full. ^^ I like reading books and magazine and most of the time you'll find me sketching, doodling or painting. I like to listen to music as well or just watch television or hang out with my siblings in our room or in the living room. There's no difference when I'm at home or not, I still do the same thing, surf the net, read or draw, it may sound boring but I enjoy them the most. ^^

I download some anime series to be watched so i can't get bored. I prefer those that are comedy types which sometimes make me smile/laugh. But most of the time, having internet access is the way to skip my boredom since i can do plenty of things like play online game where i can chat other players or go to some forum sites and learn something while sharing my own opinion.

You remind me of my brother who download Naruto in his computer and watch them later when he has some time. Just like you, internet is one of my greatest source of entertainment because you can find almost everything online. It's like the whole world is at your hands when you face your computer. I used to play online games as well ( especially bloons tower defense ) but it takes a lot of hours playing them so I stopped playing it completely and make watching short video clips in youtube as one of my favorite hobby as it doesn't take a lot of time.

I am more of a home body and of course I enjoy staying at home. This does not not mean however that I do not go out. I also love nature. But when I am at home, even alone, I enjoy. I usually spend my time watching movies and doing things onlinr. I find it relaxing just being at home though some might find it boring.

since that rarely happens in my household ,the first thing i do is do a deep clean in the 3 main rooms of the house, listening to the music that i want to listen too. then i fix me something to drink, lay on my couch and watch a movie and be on the internet. i need one of those days now.

Everyday my routine is office and home from 8am-6pm. Then when I'm in my room is good enough to watch TV, computer and cooking food.. I think no dull moment because I have things to do. So time is not enough to accomplish lots of work.. By the way I'm here in abroad working.

I like your attitude, vivavis...always having something to do and not having dull moments. I think depression is mostly caused by a sense of helplessness, as if anything you do would be useless and unimportant. So finding pleasures in everything you do would be the good counterpart and would make your mind active and happy.

Sleep does re-energize the body and when you wake up you feel a lot better. I can only say that too much or too little of it would be bad for us. And yes, internet surfing is such a broad experience like you're exploring the whole world in front of your monitor. It's great I work full time at home on my internet and that is where I get all my income, so sometimes I have time to enjoy my surfing. Thanks for sharing, effinmuffin.
