You need it or you just want to have it?

Last Sunday my husband asked me if I want to replaced my old laptop I told him no because it is still working and in good condition. After all I am only using my laptop for mylot, yahoomail and playing plants vs. zombies. I fell very happy because of his kindness and generosity to me. But also I admit that I want to have a new laptop which is more smaller, slimmer with new features and applications but I realized I dont need it since I already have new personal computer at home and has new applications and features too. May question is this. Do you buy a thing because you need it or you just want to have it? Thank you for sharing.

Hi bhebelen, i totally understand what you are trying to say. i think i can say that many of us are always facing this problem. as humans, we forever want something more. nothing satify us forever and we would alwasy want something better, something newer and something nicer. my advice to you is to think whether you really need a new laptop. is it really necessary? or do you just want it? if you have the means and have the money and really want to have a new laptop, then go ahead and buy one. otherwise, if you are struggling to make ends meet or if you want to save more money then i would suggest that you wait for a little while mroe before changing your laptop. most importantly, do you need those new functions? since the new laptop you will be getting is slimmer, will you bring it out or do you just use it at home? i think in life, sometimes it's good to splurge on ourselves, but we need to give it to ourselves as a reward!

Hi bhebelen14, it's really good that you will tink about it first and then decided later if you really need the product!

Hi dream_ozn for now new laptop is not needed because my old one is still working and I already bought a new desktop few months ago has lots of new features and applications too. I only used laptop at home coz I dont want to carry it outside, because when I am outside I enjoy myself shopping and eating with my friends or with my husband. I always think first what I need and wants later.

Umh...i just buy a thing because i need it only. I don't care much it is old or new..as long as it is still good. My cell phone is one example. many guys was surprised when seeing my cellphone, they said that it is very old...but i don't mind about it...its battery is strong, i use phone for calling and text sms only then i don't need to buy iphone at all.

I asked my wife if she needs to get a new one as this old lap is not as good as it used to, but she says that it is ok and that we wait till when it does not work well enough. So I guess that we we will get a new one in another year at least to replace this old laptop. Quite often I use my itouch for the Internet and I use it a lot every day.

I never can, buy something I need, and what I want. Although, I really need, I do not have the ability to buy. Moreover, to buy things I want, can never be bought by me. So, I do not have an answer for you this discussion.

Depending on what things you refer to as wants and needs. Some things i buy is because i want it, some things i buy because i need it. So also depends on my ability to spend. First things first should be the one i need. Our needs are things that cannot be delayed as it is important. Food? Petrol? Rental?Books (if you're studying) and the list goes on and on.

Another example would be, as of now i am into the bodybuilding and fitness activities. So what i need would be food and supplements. I really need these so i could gain faster and help me recover from my workouts. The things that i want is of course the equipments such as barbell, dumbell, mini gym sets and bench, but those are things that i can have at the gym i go to, so i can delay in buying them for my own workout session at home.

There are all kinds of explanations to the word"need". I don`t really need much, except for some food (not all I buy) and meds. I have clothes to last for the rest of my life. Yet, once in a while, I want something new. And I really think we all need some luxuries in our lives according to our means. I did no buy the laptop I wanted (my dearest sister gave me one for my birthday but I wasn`t expecting it) because my Bank account has been hacked and I prefered to use my extra money (less than I used to have) for traveling.

In my case, there are things I want to buy especially gadgets, but I usually talked about it with my wife. We usually planned those things because there are other things that needs to be purchased first rather than those. For example, our digicam is already 5 years old we are planning to buy a new one but we don't buy it now because our digicam stilll works good. So we planned to have it before the year ends and not immediately. With the continuing innovation of electronics now, the price really drops fast so we are still looking for camera that suits what we are looking and watch as it price lowers.

Lots of new electronic gadget nowadays that launching new models and style maybe that was the reason why the price is dropping immediately. I remembered when I bought my digicam last 2006 it really cost a lot because is new in the market now you can purchased it in a very low price.

As long as I am still comfortable with what I'm using, I am sticking with it. But if I am encountering problems with it already and I have excess money, they i might tend to buy a new one. But before I buy a new one, I always make a canvass and read reviews about the item, so that I will make sure that what I am going to buy is worth it. Have a good day!

Canvassing has lots of advantages because you can have an idea on the price of the items you want to buy, I used to that when buying new household ware. Thanks

I always buy what i need first but I make sure that what I buy ( the one i need) is one of the best or top of the line cause I would use it for a long time, the savings i get from buying what i need first goes to purchasing what I would need again later and also what i want, basically I do both, what I need is most of the time also what i want, i just hold on from buying a little bit longer so I could buy what i want too which is most of the time the more superior product.

I am too frugal and really practical now so I used to buy thing that I need now not like before that I buy cause I want it.Like my new phone that I am using right now.I change phone when it is already broken and not working which I used for three years. I guess practicality is really important now.

Hi Bhebelen14! If I have money in excess of what I need, I will surely buy that to my wife. But if I have limited resources just enough to subsist for the next few months, I would just defer the plan of buying one. But for sure, I will buy that laptop some time because I want my wife to be always happy.

We should buy things as per what type of thing with what type of features we need to use. Many a time features with any device remains ever unused and then wasted.

Both, though I try to buy things only because I need them. I haven't updated my computer because it still does everything that I need it to do, and in all honesty I really don't want to be distracted by new features that I don't need. There was this computer commercial that I absolutely hated where they had this customer that said she didn't need a new computer because her computer worked just fine, so they turned her house into a computer-store and made her look at all the new features of newer models and by the end the actress is like, "Ooh had no idea! I definitely needed a new computer!" There's nothing wrong with lagging behind technology and choosing to be satisfied with what you have. Now books... obviously I rarely NEED books... but I buy them like a madwoman because I love them so much!

hi Bhebelen, I do both, it all depends on the item and if the want out weight the need...Its all depends on my wallet situtation at the time...I do not have a credit card reason being I just don't want one..So when I want to spend money, my first thought goes to then want , then the need, then reality settles in and I have to refer to the wallet, who is the ultimately the decision maker....LOL....
