Low budget horror

I often enjoy watching a low budget horror film, how about you? I remember the days when I first saw the Full Moon films. The puppet masters was my favorite. There are so many great films out there. I'm not sure what it is about them that I enjoy so much. Their cheesiness? Maybe the effects that look like my 7 year old son could have done better? I'm not sure, I just can't get enough of them. Maybe it is the incredibly bad acting, and how you can't wait until a certain character gets murdered. Do you also like these? And if so, what is it that attracts you to them? Do you have any great stories to share about these? Have you ever tried to make a low budget horror film yourself? Maybe you were a little kid, and your friends and you all had Halloween costumes on and filmed it on your dads crappy digital camera. I would love to hear. Horror has been a major part of my entire life, and I have grown a love for it. Especially the low budget side of things. Nothing more pure then getting the most out of your money.

Hello dansazz Would the Texas Chainsaw Massacre be regarded as low budget horror? It seemed so to me. Another horror movie that seemed low budget to me, but that I actually found creepy is, Five Across the Eyes. (I think that's it.) As for cheesy. While it may not qualify as pure horror, I really enjoy Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Also, Student Bodies. When I was a teenager, some friends and I made a so-called war film. It was very cheesy. We used several cameras and different camera angles and we had a good time making it. I still have it, although it's much too embarrassing to watch. Peace

If I remember correctly, the original texas chainsaw massacre had a rather low budget, and they created a masterpiece that will live on forever.

That's what I was thinking as well. In the small town in which I lived, some teenagers in town waited in the wings of the local theater and when the chainsaw came out they rushed into the theater with their own, real chainsaws cranked and buzzing!! Of course, they had removed any chains from the saws, but the effect was the same -- STAMPEDE!! They got charged with causing a public hazard or something and had to appear before the judge, who gave them some minimal community service, and also commented, for the record, that he wished he had thought of the prank first.
