What would have happened to the USA if the British won the war?

If we went back in time and changed the outcome of the American Revolutionary war what do you think would be different about today. My first thoughts are that 50 states wouldn't exist. I believe once this country won it's independence the adventurous spirit of the pioneers led them west, but under colonial rule that adventurous spirit would have been stifled.

Of course we can never know, a small change here and there can make huge differences. Having said that we can speculate; 1. Know one is more pioneering that the Brits after all we created the largest empire the world has known, so I don't think your assumption is correct re the 50 states 2. You would have abolished slavery earlier 3. Become a democracy earlier than 1965 4. You would be a less divided on racial grounds 5. You would be less insular 6. You would speak English not some pigeon English 7. You would appreciate irony and humour 8. You would not have that ridiculous paranoia about anyone slightly left of Hitler 9. You would play Cricket instead of a game called Rounders here, which is only played by small girls. I believe you call it baseball? 10. You would have a less corrupt electoral system 11. You would be better educated 12. You would spell correctly 13. You would have a health system free at the point of contact 14. You would appreciate the humour of this list all the best urban

Oh and of course without the second world war bankrupting Britain, former British colonies would have gained independence in a less rushed fashion, which may have led to a more stable world. all the best urban

LOL. Our English is the proper English. Baseball is not a game for little girls, that's why our athletes are using steroids to gain the edge. All the other stuff I'm okay with your assessment.

When I read your subject , my first answer was Which one? If The Brits had stopped the Patriots, there would be only 13 states that are English based, West of the Mississippi would belong to Spain. Alaska would belong to ? Russia? And Hawaii would still be a distance group of islands. All the people who came to America for freedom would remain at home. Thus , Germany would have won WWII! If Britain ruled the U.S. , we wouldn't been able to Finally get into the fight. It is a whole set of dominoes!

Yes this is the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Do you really think US involvement really helped out in WWII. We dropped some atomic bombs, but wouldnt those inventions have just belonged to the UK by then.

No Way! It was the core idea of two German Jews who escaped Nazi Germany.I saw a documentary that witrh their help we got the bomb Just before Nazi Germany did. No ! No America, no haven. No haven , no Free Jews. No free Jews , no bomb.No Bomb, no free world. I always said if Hitler had kept his German Jews, he would have won the war. But then again , in the Jewish faith you are taught to question Everything and Hitler wouldn't remain in office with people like this. I truly believe he Had to kill his Jewish citizens first. That way he would have no resistance.

So you don't think the UK would have granted asylum to these two even knowing that they had a weapon that would help them defeat Germany.

well the US would still be a British colony. what would have happened if the US won the war of 1812 (its the 200th anniversary and because i live near Stoney Creek [the battle of Stoney Creek took place in 1813] we will be taking part in the festivities). if the US would have won that war, Canada would be part of the US in instead of England.

I don't think that the "adventurous spirit" of pioneers has something to do with living or not under a colonial rule : Australia or Canada had also pioneers... It is impossible to write History again, and difficult here, as British colonies had more local autonomy than others, though some British laws were imposed to every colony, like the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, in 1834 : this one would have avoided a civil war in USA.

I'm not familiar with Canadas history. How did settlements in that country begin?
