Being a freelancer

Hi myLotters! As some of you may know from previous topics, I'm an illustrator. I've done several projects as a freelancer (through places like Fiverr mostly), but I'm pretty much starting and the whole "being a freelancer" thing seems so overwhelming to me. I've been doing some research regarding working as a Freelancer (specially concerning my field, art) but I honestly don't know where to start... where do I go? How do I take care of all legal matters such as contracts and the like? Those are only a couple of things I wonder about. So, I was wondering if any of you here that are or have been freelancers would like to share their experiences. Or, if you're in the same situation as me, perhaps we can also help each other :) Thanks a lot in advance!

Good day Cargoleta, Same as you are, I am also a Freelancer. Since I am now on the my third decision to change my career. The second decision that I have done was last year, when I decided to redirect my career to set up a business but my family was not able to give the support needed for that so, I have come up to have the third. And that is, to go on being a Freelance. Being at this post, I choose to handle offline and online businesses. So I can able to hit my target earnings eventually. And since, I am doing a home-based job, I am trying to maximise everything, and even enroll an account to fiverr. Apparently, I am not lucky to that site so I have tried and settled to other earning links.

Thanks for your reply, hopefully things will go well for you :) I'm lucky to get many orders on Fiverr, but I'm aware that I'm being severely underpaid, so I'd like to find other alternatives.

I'm a freelancer too, a writer of articles, script, story etc. I work in fiverr too, and sometimes to other sites. Try also, freelancer.com and odesk.com, they are outsourcing sites also.

I've been a member of freelancer.com for a while actually, but I've only gotten a couple of jobs so far. I tried odesk.com as well but didn't have any luck. Any tips? I recently joined another similar site called elance.com but I haven't applied for any jobs there, so I can't really give an opinion yet.
