Today's language

I think that today's language is vet meager and unimpressive. It is reflected in today's spoken language (specially among teenagers) and mostly on the internet. I find the language in chats, forums and Facebook very low, incorrect and full of shortenings. Teenagers doesn't use high-level words and it is a shame. In contrast to that, I have noticed that most of Mylot's discussions are written in high level, proper language. I would like to hear your opinion on this subject: What is your opinion of today's language? Why do you think that Myloters do use high level language?

I used to think that today's language was just and it part of the new generation. But as I was also using the same language, I realized I was forgetting the correct spelling of some words, although the new language makes writing fast and easy, I don't think it is good. I think mylot is trying to help us to enhance our way of writing and how we communicate by making us use high level language. Since I havn't gotten totally over with today's language yet, I find mylot the best place to descipline me and get me back on track.

Sorry clerical error, I mean I used to think that today's language was just normal and it's only a part of the new generation.

I agree with the fact that youth today does not use sophisticated level of the language anymore in speech and writing. They tend to express themselves with fewer word as possible. You can say if you read their SMS on their mobile phone, you can see that it is full of shortened word. One good reason is that people are becoming more casual. In the old days there is a large gap between commoners and aristocrats. Aristocrats tend to think of themselves as a higher form of human being and being sophisticated in their language is one way to show that they are better than the commoners and they barely interact with each other. Today the gap between the rich and the poor are smaller because there is more interaction between them, at work, shopping center, university almost everywhere. People are treated more equally unlike in the past. Myloters use high level use of language because it gives their comments more quality and class because the website pays more on the people who gives a better quality answer and also the longer the response the better they pay. TO make thing longer they use more sophisticated language to lengthen the response.

While I do agree with you that folks don't always seem too concerned with the proper use of grammar and proper spelling, I have not noticed that myLot is much better than other sites. If there is really a difference, that may be due to moderation and the deletion of those posts on myLot. I don't think myLot has rules specifically prohibiting chatspeak or excessive use of abbreviations, but I believe I have seen a few such posts that were also lacking in useful content. If most of the chatspeak posts that pop up on myLot are similar, perhaps they are just being deleted before we see them? Facebook does not generally moderate posts, so users are free to use whatever language they choose. Including the language of incoherent drunken ramblings. By the way, I can't tell if your post is meant to be somewhat ironic or not, since you are complaining about others' use of language while your own post contains some errors and some other things which, while not quite wrong, are... non-standard terms.

i think its good as far as we use it in the proper sense,if people tend to use it wrongly the original value and sheen gets reflected and eventually the language is contaminated .so we have to preserve todays language at any cost for sure :)

I think the reason why Mylot users have high level of proficiency in language use is because the company pays more for better quality response. They also pay more on how many words did you type in the discussion and the use of more sophisticated style of grammar can only make it longer.

I dislike the change that globalization has brought to today's generation and I don't want to be involved in this techno-driven jargon that you mentioned. So? I still use 'proper language' whether written or spoken. You're right-it's sad to hear and see a lot of spoken and written garbage around. But as long as we don't take part in them, well, their 'virus' won't infect us! whew!
