People, do you ever care to use your hands?!

I really hate the thought of these people who were given two complete hands but don't ever use it! I was riding a jeepey, a public utility vehicle, and you know how we pay for the fare right? We pass along our fares for it to reach the driver. And of course, we need the hands of others beside us so it could reach the front seat. Unless they want us to stand and give our fares to the driver, maybe then we don't need other's hands ! So when I was trying to pay my fare, these adults right beside me just looked at my hand with my fare and didn't even tried to pass it along. They looked at it! And I said Please twice! So not only did they not use their hands, but they were abusing their ability to see and hear! I wanted to shout please the third time so they could hear, but the person on the other side, even if he was too far, he reached for my fare and passed it along. They too were passing their own fares, so why can't they get mine? They didn't even said please when it's their fare. They should try to act like well mannered adults..! I'm not creating this just to get the points, but to let all of the commuters know that we all need those hands so don't be selfish and pass along those fares.

It is indeed a frustrating moment. I rarely experience that since I usually take a seat on the front seat or behind the front seat/driver's seat. I do not really like to sit in the middle of the jeep since I usually get a creepy feeling whenever I do. Question: Did they really hear and ignore you? There were numerous times that I did not hear people that were saying "Palihug daw." while attempting to pass their fare to the driver. Whenever that happens I feel sorry that I was not able to use my hand to help people. About them also passing their fares, I personally do not like that habit. Many people are too lazy to start passing the fare and wait for others to pass first. What if ALL OF THEM are lazy to start? I imagine the anger of the manong drayber if that happens. In the end, we can not encourage everybody to change their attitudes especially if they have grown into it.

Yes, they did heard me the first time I said please. They, the two adults next to me, just stared at it. The second time the older one sitted just right beside me said to her friend to pass it along, but she never did! Who wouldn't get mad at it when you know they have all the senses to know what I was trying to ask them to do? I even said please politely twice.

Lazy people, they are. I would also be definitely upset if I was in your situation. Anyway, karma will come to them later.

I agree with all you have said but I do not really mind being a "driver's assistant". Besides, there are two "assistants" in a jeep.

I understand your sentiments. I did experience that kind of thing. it's really frustrating! I mean, it's almost a tradition here in the philippines... to help pass along the fares of others. But there are some people who doesn't really care. I remembered just one time that I got really mad because even if I already said "PLEASE" still no one wants to care to lend a hand. What I did was embarrassing but I didn't really cared. I shouted "Ma! gusto ko sanang magbayad kaso walang may balak mag abot ng bayad! saluhin nyo na lang kaya?" (Driver, I want to pay my own fare but nobody wants to hand it over. I guess you better catch it instead!) People stared at me, I just glared at them, then the driver said, "paabot na lang po, makipagkapwa tao naman po tau."

I find what you did funny, but somehow it caught the attention of others and the driver. I might as well be doing that if I encounter such a thing again. Help, that would be a good word to use, it only everyone of us could help others by just simply passing our fares along, maybe there won't be any issues and we could even do a little exercise.

hi gaiza, Oh, I have experienced that. I hate it when some people won't care that much. It is like in our culture to pass jeepney fare (also called as "bayanihan"). Unfortunately some people are just mean and careless about others.

Yeah, I get frustrated sometimes with such situation when it happens to me. But really, I just hate those people who you can see that they clearly know that they can help out in passing the fare but doesn't care. Some people are just plain unhelpful. Maybe you should be able to ride the jeepney that I am riding then. For sure I'll try my best to get your fare and pass it to the driver.

You are welcome! No problem, really. I really can't seem to understand too how other's are having a hard time being sensitive to help reach out with the fares. It is fairly easy and doesn't require much energy, right?

It irritates and annoys me when it do happening to even in fx too. I used to get and pass other people fare but why they didn't get mine. I do make my voice louder for them to realize that they have to pass it. I think they is nothing wrong of raising voice to recognized. Maybe they are people are really numb and dont care with other people around them but their selves only.

I think they are just plainly lazy. Sad but other's could pass the fare along, then why can't they. They too asked other's to pass along their fares right, so they just have to be fair and work those lazy muscles sometimes.

its great to know that you were to see these things. when i first went to the city to stay for a couple of months, i was able to see the culture the city has. yes, culture. and i hate it. people might be so "maarte" not to touch the coins because of course, it is dirty and some might be so lazy to pass the fare. and of course, i was able to do and copy the same things. city life is not great at all. most city people don't mind other people unlike in the provinces where HELPING HANDS are usually used. So sad. SAD TRUTH.

Sad truth indeed. I really don't know what makes city people different from the people living in the province. City people are even more educated and civilized that those with our friends in the province. We would be the ones who knows better and be civilized enough to help others. But, other's really just don't care. They care more about themselves and care only for their own good.

first of all, relax and breathe slowly :) you are not alone, my friend. you are not the only one who experienced such indifference of others. such occurrence not only will make your blood rise to your head (aka adrenaline rush hehe), but also can lead you into embarrassment! i guess the reason why some people do not offer any help nor small effort, but only stare at your or at somebody else's hand is probably because they think others will do it for you, but those "others" think the same way too. resulting no one gives a helping hand (lol) my advice, next time you ride a jeepney, proceed to the end or move somewhere near the driver when you have the chance and space; or sit next to the driver :)

I usually sit at the back side of the driver whenever these is still space. But, most of the time drivers are in a hurry and even if you were not yet sitted, they are already running the jeep so I would end up sitting at the end part. You have a point though, but I always get the fares of those who asked for them to pass their fares along. I don't always think of other's to pass it along because I know I can do it.

Hi friend, sad to hear about your bitter experience in the public transport. We are facing different kind of people while traveling, as you mentioned one person helped you to pass the money even though he is far away from your place, he is having helping tendency and interested in helping others. The persons whoever besides you are quite opposite to this person. They are selfish.

Hi Gaiza12, I know the feeling. I really get annoyed with those kind of people too, acting arrogantly towards others. As if they own the jeepney they are riding on. Instead of showing a good example to younger citizens, they are behaving like they are one who need some teaching of good morals. They should buy their own cars if they dont want to do their part as a public commuters.
