I am officially on my own and it's been four months since I decided to live alone with my dog, Kiro. It's tough. Hafta do everything on my own. Got no stove. Got no washing machine. But, am loving my life now. There are just things that I miss being with my former housemates, of course. I got sick just a week ago. Three consecutive weeks of being sick caused my unit to be messy and dusty. It's tough living with just a pet. I know he empathized with me. I felt it. But, it's still different when someone is actually looking after you. What to you are the advantages and disadvantages of living on your own?

Oh wow, I feel for you. I experienced also getting sick but well, I'm not really on my own then. I was working in another country and I have roommates, but all of them have work and you cannot expect anybody to attend to your needs except maybe when you're already dying :) Seriously now, back then the economy took a nose dive for the country we are in and everyone struggles to keep their jobs. Most of my mates are not regular employees so they cannot help me and take a few hours off for me. (Good thing I've got a regular job then). That was also the time when bird flu was very rampant. I can just imagine how helpless and scared you were when you were sick. But then that experienced thought me to help myself and to take care myself even more. I guess for me that's the biggest downside of living by yourself only; you only have yourself to rely on for almost everything.

...and to highlight, it is tough! You feel almost every part of your body aching and you hafta get up prepare yourself food, get yourself a glass of water, grab yourself fruits or any healthy snack, pick the medicine to take, plus...since I have a dog, I hafta look after his needs, too, as he can't prepare his own food. That must be tough for you Raine. Esp, you're outside your own country. Thanks for feeling for me. :)

When I am single I used to live alone in my apartment because I wanted it and no one can asked me "to do this, don't do that, don't touch it". Living alone is like a heaven when I was in college because I can do anything I want without any rules. The advantages for me when living on my own I learned how to earn on my our abilities. I learned how to cook, do that laundry and keep my place clean and organized. I became more responsible and discovered myself weakness and strength. The disadvantages of living on my own was no one can is there when you sick and sad. If your heart broken no one will comfort during the night but only your pillow and blanket. Anyway since I am already married I am not living alone but all of those I learned while living on my own I am applying it now and its very helpful.

Right! There are so many things that being independent challenges us to become. Things we'll never learn had we not made the decision to be on our own.
