How do you dispose of used and recyclable papers?

Here in the university where I work, we are strongly encouraged to maximize the use of resources. That includes papers. We are reminded time and again that the back of printed papers could still be made as notepads or be reprinted on for internal correspondence. Some of us use the back of printed papers to print notes and lectures.

I hope everyone can do their part to conserve and - I hope everyone can do their part to conserve and recycle to save our earth.
In my office we use the back of the printed papers for documents that used internally. The resources of this only earth that we have is depleting. We have to change our mindset to think that the supply of raw materials is not limitless. We have to conserve and make the best use of everything we have got. I hope this message can be delivered to the younger generations to make them be more aware of it and hopefully develop the habit of conserving.

We place or our used paper into a black box which is then collected once every two weeks and taken to be recycled. As a country we are becoming very much more aware of the need to recycle. We have separate boxes for glass, plastics, paper, cardboard and garden waste. Having said that local authorities are becoming almost dictatorial in their demands that residents recycle. Some take residents to court and have them fined if they don't recycle or even if they put the wrong things in the wrong bins!

I agree with recycling paper in the ways you suggested when necessary, and when possible. However, I avoid the use of paper altogether for informal correspondence by sending e-mail, and if I am leaving myself a note, I use the note-pad app in my iPhone. That way I can leave the slips of paper for people who don't have smart phones with note pad apps. If paper must be disposed of I put it in a recycling box, and if no box is possible, I take it to my mother's farm, and she burns it. No use having things go into a landfill, and take up space, when they can easily be burnt.

Instead of burning the disposed paper, you can also turn it into some sort of dark, soil-looking material that can be used to enrich your garden soil. I got the information here: http://www.ehow.com/how_8397965_speed-up-paper-decay.html

Whenever I find paper that can still be used, I set it aside. I sometimes keep them in a folder or an envelope and label them accordingly. Of course, I try to see if the paper isn't really needed anymore, or else I might be ruining a very important document. I would sometimes use the other side of the used paper to print other things. Other times, I would just use it as scratch paper for doing notes, making computations or drawing things. I often tell my nephews that if they want to draw or write anything, they should used their old notebooks. Then, when there is simply no use for the paper anymore, we simply add them to newspapers. In between most of the time. It adds weight and thickness so, whichever way the recycling shop measures it to compute it's value, it would be okay since it's all paper anyway. We are not cheating them and we are simply recycling. (^_^ )

At the present time, the price for waste paper given by recycling firms doesn't cover the cost of fuel to transport it, let alone the driver's wages!

hi dear dolce_vita how is the weather in the Philippines now? Hope you can enjoy a wonderful weekend and wont have to work. I also do use misprints and other such stuff for notes at work. We have everything from Dec 2009 onwards scanned and the files in the computer but sometimes you still need to print out things.

That's a great way to be frugal with paper! Here in my town, we have curbside recycling. We are able to recycle paper, metal, plastic and glass. A truck comes by once a week to pick up the bin we place at the curb just like our garbage truck comes by once a week. The recycling is then sorted at a recycling center and sent off. I'm not sure how rare this service is, but I think we are very fortunate to get this opportunity free with our garbage pickup.

Here in our office, the back of documents that are not confidential intended for disposal are used for internal memo or other internal circulating notes. By these step, we can save lot of trees. Also, we can recycle them by creating some bulleting boards instead of buying cork boards. Papers can be a good substitute.

Yeah it is very important to recycle papers. Well i have always disposed off papers into the dustbin and make it a point of not throwing here and there and rather looking out for "use me" dustbins.
