Muffins have a basic recipe including flour, egg, milk, and vegetable oil.they're very easy and quick to make, you could have a batch made from scratch in about 30 minutes. Cupcakes are more of a basic spongecake recipe-creamed butter and sugar mixed with flour.I make Muffins...haven't tried out cupcakes..yet..

Muffins are usually bigger, and usually have something mixed in the batter. Cupcakes are usually frosted. To me they are kind of the same thing too. Now you're making me want muffins.

hi shanejulian! i like both muffins and cupcakes, both are delicious and i use the same pan to make both...from what i understand and have experienced in the cake world, cupcakes are like tiny cakes with sweet soft batter and usually iced...i used to take cupcakes to my son's school classes on his birthday, iced with chocolate icing and topped with m&m's....this was quite a hit with the kiddies! i have always noticed muffins having a denser, less sweet batter and usually not iced, although i love them dripping with butter! i used to make blueberry muffins for my son, but i don't like blueberries and didn't eat them...i do like cheesecake muffins and pumpkin cinnamon muffins however...either way you go they are both delicious, eh?
