We are still waiting for the baby, Mom has been in labor for three days and now they say C-section is in order. Mom and baby are weak. I am not where they are, I am at least three hours away and can do nothing but pray and wait, not that I could do much if I was there, but it seems to me this has gone on way to long. I'd much rather be the patient then the spectator in this case, I hate to think of my Granddaughter in so much pain. Please pray for us and a healthy baby. Thanks

Oh, savypat, how awful for your granddaughter! And, how awful for you. Sometimes, it's worse being the observer than the one it's happening to. I cannot believe they've allowed this to go on for three days! That is insane! With my first baby, I was in labor for a total of 22 hours. At 18 hours, they gave me a medication that definitely sped up the labor and two hours later I was pushing. (It took two hours of pushing to get the little bugger out and he only weighed 5 lbs. 13 ozs!) With my second baby, they noticed that he was breach right away and prepared me for a C-section immediately. This is why I can't believe anyone would allow your granddaughter's labor to continue for three days! I do hope they've already done the C-section or it's about to be done and that your granddaughter and her baby come through this just fine. I'm sending you all the positive energy I can for your grandaughter and great-granddaughter. I've also said a chant for them. (I'm Buddhist more than anything.) I'd be on the phone demanding that someone explain to me exactly how this was allowed to happen! I've NEVER heard of labor lasting this long, especially when it's being monitored by medical staff. There is no logical explanation for why this has been allowed to continue! But, I can understand that your first and foremost priority right now is your granddaughter. I pray that you receive good news and that her delivery is finally happening and everyone is healthy, albeit exhausted.

When Mom awoke and baby was safe, Mom told us why they had waited so long, baby was out of position at the last moment and so they had to do C-section. Seems things have changed and now they try everything to deliver in the natural way, don't rush to do C-section like they use to. 50 years ago when I was delivering, they rarely did C-section unless there was extreme danger. Then when my girls were delivering 20 years later C-section were done at the drop of a hat. Now here we are back to as few C-sections as possible. Now, however I think it's a matter of money, a C-section costs much more and insurance won't pay unless they have approved it.

Hi savypat, prayers are definately the order of this waiting time...I will say a prayer but I am betting God or whoever you call your higher power..women have been in labor for hours many times, but I am sure the doctors have a grip on whats going on... Stay confident that everything is going to be fine.. Good luck to mommie and baby.

I am not sure why they would have let this go on so long. It does make the mom and the baby weak. It is hard to be on the outside looking in.

I got the answer to this, the baby had turned her head in a strange way and it couldn't get through the cannel. Next discussion shows all turned out well. Thanks

I may have already been to that discussion, but if not I will look for it. Trusting all is well and all involved are regaining their strength.

In a situation like this, I don't think that there is any position that would be comfortable to be in. The reason that I say that is because not only are the family members worrying about the mother and child. The mother is worrying a lot about her child and then also has the fact that she could have to go through major surgery as well to worry about. I hope that everything went well and that the baby was healthy and that mom has a speedy recovery.

I have said a prayer for your granddaughter and her mother. Like everyone else has said, it's gone on way too long. Even way back in the 80s when I had my children the general rule was to labor no more than 24 hours then somehow hurry it up or do a C-section. I hope everything is alright for them both. If not, I would certainly make sure that obstetrician never delivers any more babies. I'm hoping you soon report to us a beautiful new granddaughter!
