a volcano near us

just lately i found out that the island near my city named Basilan is a volcano itself..the whole island is part of the volcano. wow. I never really knew this. I mean all my life i live here but i never really knew this, i always wondered before if we have a volcano near us... i know there are volcanoes in the Philippines like Mt. Pinatubo and Mayon but none near me. So i am quite amazed by this...and i hope it will stay dormant. i wonder if anyone here lived near a volcano? any fear that it will explode any time soon? or was it dormant?
